At least BSF, CRPF , CISF, CAPF, some units of state police forces etc, should be only given indigenous small arms. The market for these assault rifles is fairly large globally and we can compete if there is some domestic scale.
Yes, it doesn’t matter if INSAS jams in critical scenarios. You should indigenise even when lives are at stake 👍 . Trust the PSUs not the armed forces

Just go and look at the catalogue of SSS defence rifles, they have everything from Sniper rifles to machine guns, and they have also exported these. And not only SSS defence, there are dozens of other small arms manufacturer companies in india, and they have mostly all developed there own guns and manufactures them. Dont be blind and move forward for Gods sake. If we dont induct these indigenous weapons even after having so much options, they we are the biggest fools on the planet.

Its ok that we have choosed AK-203, BUT after this we should not buy any foreign guns and small arms. Just like MOD have strictly said that in Artillery tender, only indian artillery companies will be able to participate, MOD should also make a rule so that we only buy indigenous guns. We have many small arms manufacturers like SSS defence and all, and SSS defence have every single kind of guns frkm sniper rifles to machine guns, and theey also hag exported them. If we dont induct these guns, even when we have so many options, we will be the biggest fools on the planet.
I see many crying in comments that why thy didn't choose indigenous SSS guns , for starters SSS guns model was shown after this AK 203 deal was signed it was a new product thn, our Army had a very bad experience with indigenous insas rifle for years now thy didn't had the time or patience to opt a new gun now, Ak 203 is a modern version of the legendary Ak 47 it has all the bells and whistles needed for current warfare plus its ultra reliable and cheaper compared to the rest of the competition.
Its OK that we have choosed AK-203, but after this we should not buy any other foreign small arms. We have every single kind if small arms manufacturer present in india, it would be idiotic if we dont induct them. Thats whaat Most people are talking about.

@@wokerocks Alongside Ak-203 Indian special forces are to get Ak-12 and Ak-15. But only the special forces are going to get it under separate deal but don't know it's current status.

Actually the order of Ak203 is a good decision because already all the things are going to be late and also at this time choosing an indigenous gun and testing facility will be cause of late but there is a hope if after 8 laks Ak203 gun there is a chance arise for indigenous guns like p72 rifle etc
Instead of giving repeat order only for either Ak-203 or Sss defence rifle the defence forcee can split the order among them so that the indigenous weapon support will also be done and army will also get the confidence of having foreign weapons also along with all of their units so that they will also be satisfied
Your local guns and those companies making them have a great chance to survive and even thrive if your local Police orders them in really large numbers.

It doesn't matter how much indigenization is achieved initially. Since the project is long delayed hence focus should be delivery of at least 2.5 lac guns to Army on urgent basis to arm units on LAC & LOC since INSAS is very outdated. Later on when Indian Army may acquire 5-7 lac guns to retire INSAS than higher localization could be focussed upon.
My best combo of weapons in any BR game. One AK and one AR.
Hope in near future Bharatiya soldiers will be equipped with one AR for long distance shot (Sig 716i) and one AK (AK-203i) for comparatively closer combat. If possible a Compact version of AK-203i in future.

SSS defence have everything from Sniper rifles to Machine guns, and they are already exported some. It will only be idiotic if we dont buy indigenous guns even when having so much options.

Army needs to fastrack the additional 40,000 LMG order (makes sense to order from Negev, specially if they agree to either make in India or tie up with an Indian firm, since they have delivered first batch of 16,000 LMG).
Finally, Army needs to now push for Close Quarter Battle Carbines. We have a requirement of 4 Lakh Carbines. Really pray that atleast here we select an Indian Vendor. The more we delay, the lesser equipped our forces would be a for a longer period.

Honestly it is fine that initial batches are 25% indigenous, must be the plastic components like handguard and buttstock.
Russia-Ukraine war has costed the time and efforts in building the Russian Army rather than giving support to the Indian Armed forces..
So people commenting about the indigenous levels should take consideration of Geopolitical scenarios instead sueing one's own opinion on IRRPL for self satisfaction 😊
production was supposed to start in 2019, 3 years before russia's invasion of ukraine. isn't this supposed to be an "aatmanirbhar" project? why, then, are we still relying so much on russia? it would've been a valid excuse if irrpl wasn't supposed to be producing this on its own, that kind of ruins the whole point of self sufficiency.

Poland has around 2.5lakh(active+reserve) force and they still made a new rifle grot for them and here we are still importing, not even doing local manufacturing for 2lakh rifles.
It will be good for lndia to produce more Trichy Assault rifles and Ishapore Assault rifles to the lndian defence forces.
India don't need to import forigen made assault rifles for lndian armed forces.
AK203 means that even if Indian soldiers managed to shoot the enemy, any army with a half decent body armour and helmets, especially PLA, would basically not kill the enemy unless shot placed on face or limbs. Its ony useful in COIN context. Also, 7.62X39mm will be limited to

Why Indian Navy can make good decisions for any defence stuff allocation or funds , simple reason that in Indian Navy is full of South and Mid- South Indians ( academic or non- academic literate and a good decisive nature inbuilt ) personals which have a good defence Ecosystem with skilled workers mostly in South Indian regions 😎😎... but irony is that both Indian Army and Airforce have only Filthiest lobby making personals that's why they don't have such defence ecosystem in North and Mid - North Indian regions 😆😆

7.62 mm will be a blunder as an assault rifle as the recoil would be higher and hard to maintain the accuracy. It can be only used as a marksman rifle. It will not be a great choice for counter terrorism and northeastern sector.

Imagine spraying on somebody with the 7.62mm recoil. Reliability doesn't mean you should stick to an abandobed cartridge (by OEM). Anyways...I'm just glad they're getting a better gun than INSAS.

Once upon a time M-16 was a shit but now it is one of the finest assault rifles. This is how a superpower works. American presidents themselves forced their army to use those plateforms while putting more money on R&D. Even those Chinese have their own AR and their own cartridge. 😒

It’s actually 25% indigenous for Russia. They wanted ToT so badly that our OFB uncles gave them 75% of the equipment and let them deal with the scraps of 25% which includes packaging etc..👍🙏

Metallurgy..😂...we don't have metallurgy knowledge to make gun barrels...but at the same time we have metallurgy knowledge to make space craft bodies, tank barrels, tank armour, howitzers, Missile re entry heat with standing material knowledge but we lack metallurgy knowledge about guns

I think after this procurement...we should start deviating from ak series guns and generally Russian guns...and start procuring modular guns like m4 series and hk,scar series...also sig 716 were procured in limited numbers i wonder how it worked out..was it a good decision? Not to mention our squads should be provided with better sniper rifles because dragunov is old now.... anyways ❤
