EATING in KAPAHULU! || [Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii] Poke Bowls, Malasadas!
• FOOD TOUR in KAPAHULU!...
Great video! Thank you 🙏
Wow! This brought back wonderful memories! Mmmahalo!
Leonards is top notch. We found that the food truck was noticeably better.
Back in the late 80s and early 90s in use to buy Roost Turkey Tail from there‼️😋🤙🤙🤙
Leonard’s forever 💕
The next time you guys have a few beers and have some "chicharon" for pupu, make a dipping sauce of vinegar/shoyu/garlic. You won't be disappointed!😋
Saw you guys earlier today on cooke street. 🤙
Back in late 1979 to 1982 I would go to rainbow drive in on kapahulu street for the Hawaiian plate then go to Leonard’s for malasadas. Before that I used to go to the People’s cafe by long’s drugs on pali highway. People’s cafe had all kinds of hawaiian dishes. Food was so good. In California now and I miss the food badly.
Yeah Ruger Market! They had nice sashimi platters in da day we special ordered. Thanks for providing the link to this video it didn't pop up in my feed 3 months back🤷♀️
Cinnamon sugar Malasadas & Haupia one are winnas.
My cousin's used to live just a few blocks from Leonard's. The guava one is my favorite from them! Also you should try the sunrise restaurant right on Herbert st.

Hi Amanda & Felix!! Nice meeting you yesterday Felix! This video took me down memory lane.. Its 9am and I want a poke bowl lol!
Hey Joanna! Glad you found the channel! It was nice meeting you too! 😬
You both pump out amazing content. I enjoy watching the videos.
Mahalo Bradley! 🤙
OMG! Icee!!! Cola and red! The drink of my childhood memories!
Love icee!
Yo Felix! Just saw you walking the dog today but didn’t want to shout at you & freak your pooch out! 😂 Thank you & Amanda for all the great content! Keep up the great work! ❤️
😂😂 no worries just yell! 👋 Mahalo for supporting! 🤙
Oops. Kaimuki District Park. I don't know...
Kapalono Park! 👍
Memories.......Ft. Ruger and Leonards Bakery......
We went there back in July but they were working on the building. So we only picked up mochi, icee and water. We hiked up Diamond head. We also went to the almost empty aquarium across the way.
It’s been awhile, congratulations on 20k!
Long time no see Luke! Mahalo! 👋🤙
Two years ago we rented a Airbnb in Waikiki and we would walk to Safeway for groceries and always stop at the bakery for donuts they were so good . Now I want some
Really enjoyed this episode cuz it introduced us mainlanders to a place we wouldn't know that should be tried. The food looked like a good lunch stop for sure. Thank you for letting us in. Gonna try that crunchy fried chicken and poke for sure.
Mid-morning couple months ago, Me! driving down Kapahulu, stopped in the middle of the road right in front of Leonard's took a picture of the line....counted over a hundred people lined-up waiting to order....WOW!!!
Hey guys thanks for your vids on Oahu eats. New subscriber here that ran into you two at Leonard’s that night. Nice to meet you two. My name is Kerry. I used some of your advice on places in Oahu so thx. Keep up the vids and I’ll try to watch them all.
i used to live on the east side
but havnt been to ruger market in a very long time lol since the 70s-80s nice to see theyre still in bus it used to be like a mom n pop market that had great
shoyu poke n hawaiian plates then we would head
down to the beach
Still a favorite before/ after the beach! 🤙
happy aloha friday!! 🤙🏾
Same to you🤙🏻
Nostalgic food: malasadas; poke n sushi; pineapple and pickled mango!!
Pickled mango! 🤤
Fort Ruger Market is a favorite! Limu onion poke on the side with a Hawaiian plate, with a bag of boiled peanuts🥜 😋
The the peanuts are winnahz!
Wow, that "crunch" from the chicharron &chicken!!! Go see Melissa for Filipino food at Elena's in Waipahu!
Leanards malasadas is it!! Esp when fresh! Classic original n cinnamon sugar r my favs. Love iconic legendary eats!! Keep up the great foodie tours and keep on sharing! I love it and really appreciate it bc i miss home!! Mahalo!! Miss the food ppl n paradise! Poke looked amazing! 👍🏿
I would highly recommend San Nicolas in Kalihi they have the best Grinds such as Pinuck bet Dinah Dakan Etc they are famous for there Chicha Ron Buluck luk and Crispy fried pig ears…
@@Garillaz808 kalihi seems like it has a variety of good eats!!👍🏿😀
The food looks delicious but really like your tee shirt. Hope to fine things like that when we visit in April!!
April is just around the corner!
I haven't been to Ruger Market in ages. My office at the time was a few blocks away. I would walk there at least once every other week to get a bento and boiled peanuts to take back to the office. Yùm!
Boiled peanuts! 🤤
We just tried the fried chicken and the fried pork belly. We didn’t realize it was just deep fried. There was no seasoning on either. And while it wasn’t bad, we were surprised and would have liked some seasoning. Definitely needed a sauce for dipping like a Thai sweet chili sauce. Otherwise, was good and cheap price.
If you don't mind, please give me Japanese subtitles!
We took a food tour when visiting Oahu, and they stopped at Leonard's for their malasadas. Really enjoyed them!
They're a classic!
Aloha Friday Foodies!!!! 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
TGIF! 🎉🎉🤙
🥰Love Laulau! Always looked forward to it when we had it for lunch at school. Went to Mokapu Elementary in Kaneohe Bay many years ago when my brother was stationed in Hawaii.❤️ 👍🏼Leonard’s does have the best malasadas! I love the original and the custard filled. My husband loved the Dobash one.🥰 Thanks for sharing these yummy goodies and bringing back those memories.💕
We haven't tried the dobash one, sounds good!
I want all!!!
So good! 🤤
I remember when I used to go ruger market WAY back to get the 1 lau lau 1 rice snack for $2.50!! I’d get 2 of those what a deal! I’m sure cost went up but it’s a gem out there for locals!!
Those prices! 😱
@@AmandaFelixEats yep back in the days hahaha times change
And even back then it wasn’t cheap enough. Lol! I only wish those prices again. 😄😄
Hi Amanda and Felix,
Love to see these local spots. Happy to keep the local home spots open.
I have a random question for you Amanda. What lipstick did you use on the video. Love the color 😊. Well, have a wonderful day, continue with the awesome content and please give a snuggle kiss to Lucy!. 🐶
So ono the food looked, especially the Hawaiian plate. I also have never tried the Guava malasada but I think I'm going to try it out on my next run to Leonard's. Thanks for highlighting Ft Ruger's. I always wondered where that name came from too!
You should try the custard filled too! So good! 🤤
Thank You
Happy aloha Friday Roger🤙🏻
Ruger Market - its about they made some improvements. The original owner sold from back in the day!!
We miss the original owners though! The inside looks so different 😅 still ono though 🤙🏻
Some new mixed in with the old!
Ok I want to go there you got me Ono for this🤗💜💙
Have not visited Ruger Market in years! Food still looks onolicious. Just wondered... have you ever brought malasadas on a plane to the West Coast? If so, how is that done? (how do you reheat?)
We toast it at room temperature 👍
Thanks for the food videos. Next time I’m back going to try the chicharron bites. That crunch was food porn ASMR to my ears.
Great with beer or just for snacking!
That's sone Ono food from Fort Ruger Market never been there, always eat elsewhere usually Rainbow. Will add this to my future list. Always stop at Leonard's for Malasadas. Went to U.H. with a cousin of the owners, so we went there often. Great post. Mahalo and Aloha.
They worth visiting!
Everything looks ONO 🤗💜💙🌿⚘
🤤🤤🤤
Ono doesn’t even describe what you guys grinding, looks unreal. I’ve been going to Leonard’s for over 60+ years, never disappointed! Stay safe…🤙🏼
Always a classic!
Another great place (Fort Ruger Market) to add to our list for next month to visit (already did Leonard's on last trip). What about Marukame Udon behind International Marketplace - heard that place is great with local fresh udon noodles? Let us know what you think!
Marukame is awesome! If you don't mind the long lines it's worth a visit!
Love the Guava! We couldn’t decide what flavors we wanted so we ordered two dozen! We brought some to my daughter and her husband so we didn’t look like total pigs.🤣🤣🤣
Uhhhhhhh Filex when you eat you are the product of local 🤗💜💙
Ohhhh Ono is the WORD Guava malsadas, I LOVE chocolate dobash malasadas too.
The chocolate ones are so ono too🤤🤙🏻
Oooooooooo…I could smell the poke….taste the laulau….and feel the crispy crunch of the chicken as you bit into it. And the malasadas? I enjoyed every bite with y’all.
Relatable, nostalgic, delicious! 🤤
Another great video guys!! You guys should try pinoys best at pearlridge for Filipino food, and also thelma’s and Elena’s in Waipahu
Those were all recommended! Maybe a filipino food episode soon? 😋
@@AmandaFelixEats HELLL YEAH
Will have to try Fort Ruger Market! Such ono and og grindz. Now ono for boiled peanuts. Leonard's is legendary. When I think malasadas, I think Leonard's even though they have baked goods too. Definitely worth the wait!
Hard to beat nostalgia like Leonard's! Let us know what you think of Fort Ruger Market!
Leonards changed their recipe when the children took over ... the original malasadas was almost hallow in the middle...and so so yummy... when you hold it and bite it it flattened and you can't duplicate that. Wish they kept the original
Texture wise it felt a little different.. but the taste was still pretty good! 👍
Me too that's how I like the kalua pig too.
I think asked before. Have you shown Gina's Barbecue yet? 🤔🤙
Crane Park?
For Filipino food go try Juliez in Kapolei and do a video there. The sari sari and Lechon Kawali is winnahs.
We heard they were good! 👌
Elena's n thelmas in Waipahu best filipino grinds
We heard they're good!
Ruger Market! Original Hawaiian style poke! Gotta ask for the chili pepper water and throw it in! They also got the best mochiko chicken musubi! You lucky if you can get one. Mahalo Felix and Amanda for showing this gem. They’ve been forgotten it seems as the new spots opened up. Too bad that Japanese Italian place is gone on Monserrat. I went their with my Japanese friend and it was simple and ono!
Never tried their chicken musubi! Gotta go again!
You guys crack me up, if you’re in San Francisco give me a call, I’ll show you some delicious Filipino foods! Mahalo! 🤙😊 I’ll even cook the best pinakbet for you guys, I mix lechon kawali with my pinakbet! 😂
Da camera person must have been....da VONNE 😃😄😁😆. LOVE da out takes. Soooo candid and spontaneous 😁😆😅👋🤞✌👌🤙👍☝👏🙏
She wasn't here but she will be in a future episode 👌
Great vid! Where's the smoked tako? 😋
We missed plenty of the og classics! 😣
Kaimuki for the WIN! No Boiled Peanuts?!?! WHUT THE...?!?! Aiyahhhh!
I know so sad! They ran out by the time we got there!
Your right guys , Leonards is the best 👍 my fav are Haupia and Custard , but they’re all good can’t wait to go back in August with Sharon A and family
August can't come sooner!
Bye LOVE and GOD BLESS You Both 🤗💜💙
Hi Amanda & Filex, Yes I'm from windward side but always stop there going to my Uncles & aunties at Kapiolani Manor, we always bought peanut icee dry aku poki before spending weekend there. Wow some Awsome memories.
So many great memories! Mahalo Christina🤙🏻
That fried chcken looks like a whole chicken! Was it juicy or dry? Actually it looks like a huge chicharron.
It was kinda dry on the outside but got more moist toward the center 👍
Oh man guys! Everything looks so bomb 💣 super OG spot! And oooohghh the chicharon! I like to dip in spicy vinegar 🤤and the fried chicken OMG! My mouth is watering DAMN!
Ooh we love eating vinegar too!🤤
Crispy and delicious!
👍🏼Yes! Vinegar with garlic!😋
Ruger market is old school I haven't been there in a while gotta try it out again Leonard's if you you know then you know ✌️
Gotta keep the old school alive 👍
Whooooo Crunchy Ono luscious
Kapahulu YAY!!!!! Amanda local girl hood. Gimme that Felix Sushi bowl and no skimp on the fried chicken. Leonard's. What can you say? The malasada's are just that good. I love Kapahulu! Yeah its an older neighborhood and not a shiny penny and has some homeless here and there but I would love to live there.Trouble is all the great food like Rainbow et.al. I have a weight problem. Can't wait to eat! God bless and mahalo y'all!
Gotta ask for that Felix poke mix! 😂😂 Mahalo for watching Robert! 🤙
I feel so much better knowing I wasn't the only one who went to Ruger Market and found everything "sold out"! Thanks for another great video!
Mahalo for watching! Yes! Definitely gotta go early 😣
My mouth is watering as I grew up eating Leonard's malasadas! 😊😋
Can't beat nostalgic goodness!
Obviously, if you go to Leonard's, you have to order malasadas. But what people often miss is that their other items are pretty good, too, like their brownies. I'm kind of a purist and don't really care for the puffs. Just plain or cinnamon are the best!
Can't go wrong with the original flavors! We gotta try their brownie next time 👌
Lomi salmon is salted not smoked.
Another banger vid, guys! "There's barely any green, it's just the meat in between...that lau lau, is wow wow"...Felix, if the radiology thing doesn't work out, you might have a future as a rap lyricist. 😀
😂😂😂🎤🎶
Hi guys
🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻 happy aloha Friday!
What high school did ya'll attend? :)
Roosevelt and Kalani!
Aloha Amanda & Felix. Food looked amazing, especially the guava malasadas, yumm-o!!! Happy Aloha Friday!
Happy Aloha Friday Paula! 🤙
Mannn so much ʻono food packed into this video. Amanda, it brought me back as well to those days when I would get so excited to get musubi and icee at my local mini mart. That chicharon crunch though. Fave ASMR definitely!!! I swear, fried chix is always good at these local marts & the ones at gas stations too! Can’t wait for the next vid 😁
Local general store fried chicken so classic! Nostalgia all the way!
Oh my gosh you guys always eat the best foods 🤤😍 those are some awesome dishes. The malasadas have my name on them! Omg 😳 yum
They are the best! 🤤
Ooh~! I just drove past that a few days ago! I love that place. Their Filipino food is legit. :-)
Mahalo Mark! We hope we can go back for Filipino food🤤
We gotta come back earlier next time and try their filipino food!
I can eat poi with that chicken. Or futomaki and Cone Sushi.
Those malasadas look so bomb!! I’ve had couple other places but nothing like the original.
Can't beat it! 👌
Hey guys.Viet bites request? You guys should try 97 pho in pearlcity next to sidorak. They have Nam neong summer rolls and great pho. My mom actually showed me that place. Lol
Vietnamese food sounds good!
How do you guys manage to eat a full meal, and then enjoy desserts too?! Well, love all the varietal dessert places in Oahu, esp the Boba or tea places. We visit Oahu and love all these “local” ears. Hubby from Oahu, but misses all the plates and Poke; Live in Mainland
We're always hungry! 😂 gotta love those plate lunches!
I'm so jealous you guys had the perfect lunch today everything you had to eat looked so ono. Living on the mainland we do not have access to so many Ono-licious foods. Mahalo ❤🤙 P. S. My Grandfather Auntie Uncle and cousin lived on Castle street for many years. ❤🤙
We hope to keep show casing these local grinds for you guys!
Yes it's always hot Becareful guy's.
🤗💜💙
20k! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
🎉🎉🎉🙏
