Do you know how much UV protection sunglasses should have? And which UV protection lenses might be best for you?
We often wear sunglasses to protect us from uncomfortable glare but at the same time it is important to protect our eyes from harmful UV radiation because UV can contribute to eye damage like Photokeratitis or cataracts in general.
Your sunglasses should always be tailored to your individual needs. For example, do use intelligent sunglasses for situations where light intensity changes and dark enough glasses to improve your view in the snow.
On the other hand the colour of tinted lenses can have an effect on your vision. For example, blue lenses limit your vision while driving. To protect yourself from being blinded
by reflecting surfaces it can also help to wear polarized sunglasses. These lenses contain
special chemical film layers which eliminate these reflections and enhance vision. No matter what styles, colour or material you choose, make sure that your sunglasses fit well for the best UV protection. They should be large enough to cover the eyes and surrounding skin.
We've discussed what you need to protect your eyes from harmful UV radiation but there is one problem - UV radiation is also present even when the sun isn't visible. That's why Zeiss has developed UV protect technology to provide full sunglass level UV protection even in clear lenses. Watch our next video to find out more.
