Robert. Here is my latest eye exam for progressive lenses. OD +1.25 -0.50 175 +2.25 / OS +1.25 -0.50 005 +2.25. I've never liked my Shamir plastic lenses. They are the latest technology but I still don't like them. Because of your introduction I'm looking to get a pair of Masunaga Chord D titanium frames. At 47mm lens width they are a little too big for my face though. I wish I could get 44mm lens width. Still, based on my prescription, could I use REAL glass lenses in the Masunaga frames? I want my lenses to be as thin as possible and you said that real glass is the thinnest. Thank you!
I'm looking to replace my prescription lenses. I just had an eye exam and I'm getting progressive lenses. I want to get Zeiss real glass lenses. Today, my optometrist said that Zeiss progressive glasses lenses, with my mild prescription will cost $1400. This seems outrageously expensive. Zeiss SmartLife High Index 1.67 polycarbonate lenses are $1100. Am I messing something? Am I being ripped off?
@@traderspodcast2534 It seems like a straight forward question but it is vexing. Zeiss makes lenses, from plastic and glass, for cameras and for eyewear. Just got new glasses.YES mine are Zeiss! I'm 68 and started at 5 years of age wearing glasses. Very high rx with ( asitig.) very bad plus extremly light sensitive. I got a %20 grey solid tint and it helps so much indoors. I always get Ray Ban New Wayfayers 2132 polarized with a almost #4 grey tint, done in house. I see THE SAME OPTOMOTRIST FOR 15 YEARS! I love your channel, watch everything you do. Wish you were in Ohio, USA. Best wishes😊
Just got my Digital Lenses this past week, noticeably sharper than anything I've worn before! Great perk of working for Zeiss it was all free! Keep up the great videos!
My adaptive sun lenses are definitely my favorite. What makes them so cool for me is that even though you start out at a moderate tint, they are perfectly usable indoors and when I’m inside, I forget that I’m wearing tinted lenses altogether. Once you step outside, though, they fully darken. they’re much more comfortable for me than a traditional transition lens
Can I ask what color you got? I just ordered the blue gradient from Robert, and am very excited for them, but plan on getting Pioneer as well, and just wondering how the indoor tinting on different colors. I love lightly tinted lenses indoors.
My Drivesafe pair definitely have an edge on peripheral vision over my Smart Life pair. But if I’m doing any reading…I want my Smart Life. Love my Zeiss lenses from Spectacle Factory!
Love Zeiss lenses due to great peripheral vision that you mentioned. However, Zeiss has the problem in the US ( Zeiss US Minnesota lab ) with getting the lens tint right. Zeiss doesn't anymore send it out to Germany. They just can't get it right when you combine flash mirror, PhotoFusion and tint.
Hi Robert. Once again, great information. So many choices, the next pair will be fun to create! Thank you for pointing out that you are describing lenses produced directly by Zeiss Germany and not licensed Zeiss products. I have worn Zeiss lenses for years (produced under license in Canada) and always thought they were great and then I received my first two pairs of glasses from you with 'real' Zeiss lenses and there is no comparison. The clarity, functionality and field of vision (super important with multi-focal lenses, IMO) of the Zeiss Germany lenses is far superior, even though I have identical prescriptions. Clearly, not all Zeiss lenses are created equal so, if you are not purchasing your glasses from Robert and the amazing SF team (the BEST of the BEST), ask your optician to confirm the origin of your Zeiss lenses.

Hi Robert. Please make a video on rose tinted lenses. Are they really as good as people claim they are to be when it comes to migraines and light sensitivity, etc.
The ‘migraine lenses’ while being close to an amber-rose are the FL-41 tint. I have a good friend who lives his entire life in different levels of this tint, and it’s worked great for him. It really depends more on what your triggers are, so it’s more of a case by case basis. There’s a ton of info on the FL-41 tint tho!
I have just started to get into the optic industry and decided to get a nice pair of glasses and this is a dumb question but where do you go in order for someone to put your new lenses into your separate frame? Also is it possible to get the BlueGuard lense material coating on the Smartlife lenses? Because it seemed as though you said it's only with the PhotoFusion lenses. Just found your channel a week ago and have been addicted to your channel ever since, and I don't know why there aren't more channels like this one talking about glasses, but I'm glad we have your channel.
In the world of lenses, there is a lack of price transparency. When you visit an optician to buy glasses, it's never clear how much profit they are making, and comparing different options would be incredibly time-consuming. Given the high concentration of stores, it's evident that profit margins are substantial. Lens manufacturers provide no guidance, which is a rather unscrupulous approach for products that are essentially designed to assist with a handicap.
Wow i've learnt a thing or two today. I normally just use Asda and thinned down lenses due to astigmatism. I need a near and far multi lense and liked the look of some of the driving lenses. Great video.
I wish you had mentioned or discussed bifocal lenses. Also, about tints. I prefer a warmer color like rose, or call it red or pink. My newest pair from laat Month has a tint somewhere around orange, but it is a browner orange one might call copper or burnt orange, not nearly as bright as your magma orange. Even my custom tint was a lavender that I had red added to to make it warmer in tone.
Hi, thanks for all your great videos. Just wondered if you have seen this before… I recently got Zeiss Individual progressive and the lenses had a slight yellow tint to them. They had Transitions Gen 8 (the opticians could not supply Photofusion for some reason) but they are supposed to be totally clear indoors. Second pair was made with slightly different prescription and these also were slightly yellow. Not something I like. Have you seen zeiss lenses with yellow tint to them before? Thanks
Good summary, you just missed the Zeiss Office Lens range (superb and Individual). Great for those who are over 40 and are at a desk/office job most of the day, and need good wide Intermediate and Near vision.
Came here looking for more about Zeiss quality class 4 lenses with i.Scription. Would be interested to know more about how i.Scription compares to other lenses which use wavefront aberrometer measurements to correct for higher order aberrations.
There was no mention of a custom base curve progressive lens. Essilor’s Varilux Stylistic Wrap allows the customer to specify the lenses’ outer curvature. For rimless frames, this is important for fit & appearance. I assume Zeiss offer a similar product. In the US, these are difficult to find as most optometrists here provide only basic service (even the Cartier dealers).
Thanks John, the base material is always the same. It's a patented monomer (I think by PPG industries??) so it has to be made the same everywhere. But there can be a massive difference between different lenses made in CR39
I'd like to know how Smartlife's single vision will change the focus between far and near, although they are single lens power. Also, what if my use case is intermediate vision indoors and intermediate and distance vision outdoors. How can Smartlife's single vision accommodate that?
I am trying to work out if its worth driving up to see you... Honestly between my wife and myself we are on our fifth options in London and I do not think i have been happy with my glasses for over 10 years now. Even some of the highly recommend options do great tests but fall short on the frames and lenses help and I feel I am being forced to buy crappy frames I never like or want and for lenses its just "do you want anti scratch coating or blue screen protection" - I do not think I have ever been told I can choose a lens technology or a tint
I am so grateful for you getting this information out, but the sunglasses episode caused me to spend several hours looking at all the amazing manufactures and now I hate mine 🙂
Yes! It's definitely worth coming to have a personal consultation with me. We have hundreds if not thousands of clients who have been in the same position as yourself. I hope we'll see you soon
My biggest gripe is that my vision is distorted whenever i look away from the centre of the lens. For clearview, how does the lens thickness effect the distortion?
Hi Rob . love your channel on Zeiss lenses. Does all customer get meansured using the iprofiler during the eye examiner as a Zeiss Expert partner . Mine in my country only used subjective measurement by the optometrist . I thought all Zeiss expert partners will use iprofile and there equipment to measure the glass fit on the face. Just curious
Sadly, very few invest in the i.Profler because it's not something that is taught at universities. Doctors can become very ingrained in the established way of thinking.
Hello Robert. Very informative channel. I made a rimless Lindberg Spirit Titanium pair last July. The optometrist and store employee suggest me to buy Zeiss's Blue Guard because I spend a lot of screen time to my work. I agreed of course but I do not know if they suggested me the best Zeiss lens technology options. My lens type is Zeiss FSV Clearview 167 BL DVP 75. I have hypermetropic astigmatism and due to the rimless design-prescription I couldn't make the lenses thinner (it is fine by me). I also wanted an antimicrobial coating (I believe it is called AntiVirus Platinum UV) but they said to me that it wasn't available any more. My question is if there were better option(s) in the Zeiss portfolio because if they were I will not visit again the same store. The bill was 600 euro (300 frames+300 lenses) but if there were better lens options I was willing to spend even more. I am happy with the particular Lindberg frame. Thank you in advance if you answer.
Hlo there, i had been prescribed for the powered spectacles last week and iam being first time specs user whilst choosing the lenses i had no idea about the lenses and chose the zeiss rx sv smartlife young 1.67 photofusion X duravision platinum, and yesterday i got my specs and since past week Ive been watchin your channel lately getting to know it better and fortunately ive chosen the best out there and being the first time user i feel the corners of the frame is curvy is it normal or did my prescription got wrong and i feel anxious to wear it
Great product video! Does Zeiss offer BlueGuard lenses or BlueProtect coating with color tints??? I think the ultimate blue light glasses would be Zeiss Smartlife with BlueGuard and a Magma Orange tint. What do you think???
It'd be great to find out what combinations are possible. i.e. if certain treatments aren't available for the thinner options, or for glass... I'm struggling to find information on that. Also, ClearView (which is available for all plastic thicknesses) is almost as good as glass? So there won't be any chromatic abberations? They irritate me on my plastic lenses...
@@thespectaclefactory Yessss! I just found out about this channel and your store a couple months ago. Wasn't interested about the whole Zeiss lens models, coatings and stuff but you made me understand the whole confusing lineups and now I want a pair of Zeiss Smartlife with DuraVision Sun. Is that correct? Can we do that?
Hi Robert. I was thinking about some Zeiss lenses with Photofusion+Duravision Amber Flash but after hering the unpleasant experiencies of filter wear, opacity, cracking(and treating them like a baby)i'm very discouraged. Zeiss tells you that this can happen to you by exposing the lenses to hight temperatures,of course,if you got for the sun and live in Spain imagine in the summer. Aren't they to protect you from the sun?
Great review! Does Zeiss have lenses that stay clear indoors but get really dark outdoors (ie, like Transitions Xtractive)? The regular Photofusion X does not seem to get as dark outdoors unfortunately and the Adaptive Sun glasses are too dark indoors. Thank you.

I'm new to glasses here in my late 30s. Got my first pair beginning of the year. I like them but don't think they fit perfect. And I don't know there lenses that are in them. I know it has a crizal anti reflection..... But I don't think they make lenses? And ray ban frames. But now that I'm use to wearing glasses I really wish I would have got photocromatic lenses or something. As my eyes have always been super sensitive to bright light. My problem now is I don't know what to order. Should I get self tinting? Or should I just get a sperate pair of sunglasses? Also, what's a good budget lense?
Is there any way of finding out what the cost difference is between the brands and lens types? I’m all for getting the best available, but some of us are on a budget!
Are those in the thumbnail part of the Gigi Studios (Gigi Barcelona) Labs? They look that way. I ordered one today with Rodenstock Exact lenses with DnEye 2 eye scan optimizations to the lenses. I have trouble finding glasses which fit; narrow nose but extrawide head (huge head in general)...
I just got Zeiss blue light filter lenses for preventing strain on my eyes from working. The lenses don't have a blue glare shimmer when looked "at" them, and also the blue is not toned down as my other glasses do when looking into a screen. Is there something wrong with them, or is this a new technology/ coating that Blockes the harmful spectrum of blue but still let's blue light through? Thanks for your response.
I have a relatively low prescription (~ -1.25 on both eyes, for both myopia and astigmatism)… would you say in your experience, if clearview is worth it over generic cr39 lenses?

Now i want to go for zeiss glasses but i am confused like i don't know what to choose and what not to, is there any way i can share my prescription and have online screening so that i can order my glasses ? Please reply
I think I asked already, but is it possible to customize Zeiss photofusion x lenses so that there indoor default tint is starting already at a 25-30% tint color? And if yes, does this come from Zeiss or do you need to tweak this in your labor?
I have essilor eyezen .4 for last 5 years and they were great. I am designer and photographer and they were amazing for 8hrs+ in front of computer monitor, as they were looking all the time in the small photo camera screen. But now I am in my forties and start to feel I need something "stronger". What would be zeiss equivalent for eyezen, and should I opt for digital lenses or go for some progressives? Ty.
I have a question. I bought the Zeiss driver safe lense, but my lense has ZEISS engraving instead of Z shape traditional engraving. I heard Zeiss Drive Safe lense has Z shape engraving with DS letter underneath, but mine is different. Do you know about this?
I've had an outrageously difficult time getting answers for this... As somebody with no prescription (bow down to my 20:15 vision lol), what is the approximate price range to put custom lenses into typical, full-rimmed sunglass frames? It seems the bottom price range would be from websites that sell generic non-OEM replacement lenses (~$35), but if I wanted something custom, where does that market start?
Around $150 I would say for a set of custom tinted lenses as a starting price. Zeiss tend to be around $250-300, which are worth the extra. We'd be glad to install custom lenses in a frame you have, if you'd like

Quite useful, thanks. Any video on the differences between the various geometries, such as individual pro, individual etc.?
Came here looking for more about Zeiss quality class 4 lenses with i.Scription. Would be interested to know more about how i.Scription compares to other lenses which use wavefront aberrometer measurements to correct for higher order aberrations.
that's true. my favourite lenses are zeiss clearview blue guard and zeiss ZEISS Digital SmartLife 3 Lenses with photofusion x. glass lenses are heavy
I'm pretty sure all lenses can have the base curve specified, except for Hoya whose lenses are produced differently than everyone else
Does the DriveSafe tint the lens in a way that changes color accuracy?
Hi can you please review and compare different duravision coatings and different mirror finish lens from ZEISS
Great video. Also, do you know if there are different grades of CR39? Just like there are different grades of titanium.
Thanks John, the base material is always the same. It's a patented monomer (I think by PPG industries??) so it has to be made the same everywhere. But there can be a massive difference between different lenses made in CR39
I have drive safe and tbh love them and made me think I couldn’t go back to a lesser lens
Nice choice
I'd like to know how Smartlife's single vision will change the focus between far and near, although they are single lens power. Also, what if my use case is intermediate vision indoors and intermediate and distance vision outdoors. How can Smartlife's single vision accommodate that?
When buying Zeiss lenses, does the optician need to put coatings on them ,or are they already coated?
My first masunaga used tokai lens, but the coating was messed up. My two zeiss is perfect
I think you skipped the OfficeLens line
My biggest gripe is that my vision is distorted whenever i look away from the centre of the lens. For clearview, how does the lens thickness effect the distortion?
Those Fuse 007 😍
Thanks! My newest glasses and I'm currently travelling with them. Stay tuned for my review next Sunday!
@@thespectaclefactory Looking very much forward to watching that
Hi Rob . love your channel on Zeiss lenses.
Doctors can become very ingrained in the established way of thinking.
there is also Gradient tint that cant be UV activated that only I can find produced by Zeiss
In India, we do have light D series and a precision series in Zeiss portfolio. I wonder its not available in the uk or if you just skip them 🤔
Hello Robert.
Zeiss smartlife got different lenses categories...like the superb etc..can you explain the differences?
Hi Robert and team, what is(are) the main difference(s) of Smartlife Single Vision vs Smartlife Digital lens?
Digital has extra magnification for your close vision, designed to relax your eyes
great video thanks! do Zeiss produce contact lenses also ?
high myopi, for real dimensions, real sizes and real edge of the objects. which one is best, seiko az, seiko brillance or zeiss clear view
Can you also explain how Individual lenses are working?
Is it possible to get a Zeiss lens with the following features: glass, photochromic, flash mirror, anti glare, and progressive?
Everything except the flash mirror, although you can have a cool gold coating on Zeiss glass
Have you done a video on progressive choice plus? Are they customised according to each individual?
What do you think about Matsuda sunglasses?
Excellent
@@thespectaclefactory Can you do a video on them?
Hi Robert, I really like the lenses you have in this video. You mention Photofusion X Flash Pioneer/Sapphire...is there no base tint? Thanks
No base tint 👍👍 Hope we can recreate them for you
Can we get a guide video like this for Hoya lenses?
Planning to visit them soon and do a whole video about the brand
Thank you.
Hello
1st thank you
2nd i have a question what's different between smart life and blue guard?!
I'm looking for any good lense from zeiss for using in day time and night time and use for smart phone and pc and etc
Which one you will recommend?!
Smart life lense or blue guard?!
Best regards.
Yes, they should not cost that much at all
What about office or occupational lenses ? Or are they the same as the digital ones by Zeis ?
Are progressive Adaptive Sun lenses with polarization as good for driving as progressive DriveSafe lenses with BlueGuard are?
What type of material does Zeiss use to make its lenses? Zeiss uses MR8? Please, answer my question. Thanks.
which high index, progressive lens would you recommend for daily use?
Would be nice if you covered i.Scription!
Have done it lots of other videos
It varies by market, prescription and the treatments you add so it's difficult to discuss prices
I'm inspired, Robert! Would I incur customs or VAT for your specs shipment to the US?
Hi , what is the brand of the sunglasses with blue lenses and clear frame you are wearing ? 🙏
Great information sir👌👌
hey Robert - what about Zeiss office lenses? DO you rate them?
Wherr can I get those glasses from?
We need to know the ABBE value of Zeiss lenses, because that parameter is very important for a good vision. For example, Polycarbonate has ABBE = 30.
I have a relatively low prescription (~ -1.25 on both eyes, for both myopia and astigmatism)… would you say in your experience, if clearview is worth it over generic cr39 lenses?
Definitely worth it
Hi, i am from Pakistan, i am struggling with keratoconus and the thing i am most concerned is about night driving. Now i want to go for zeiss glasses but i am confused like i don't know what to choose and what not to, is there any way i can share my prescription and have online screening so that i can order my glasses ? Please reply
Does Zeiss Digital lenses contains the same technology as SmartLife? Love your channel btw, extremely helpful!
I think I asked already, but is it possible to customize Zeiss photofusion x lenses so that there indoor default tint is starting already at a 25-30% tint color? And if yes, does this come from Zeiss or do you need to tweak this in your labor?
How about ZEISS Progressive Light 2 lenses
Index 1.6 DuraVision BlueProtect UV?
I have essilor eyezen .4 for last 5 years and they were great. I am designer and photographer and they were amazing for 8hrs+ in front of computer monitor, as they were looking all the time in the small photo camera screen. But now I am in my forties and start to feel I need something "stronger". What would be zeiss equivalent for eyezen, and should I opt for digital lenses or go for some progressives? Ty.
forgot to mention I have +1.5. And eyezen helped with Fatigue massively.
Where the heck do you purchase them?
I would love to get adaptive sun lenses in my next pair of glasses but I discovered recently they’re not available in the US.
👎
Now I know which Zeiss lens to order.
Happy to help!
I have a question. I bought the Zeiss driver safe lense, but my lense has ZEISS engraving instead of Z shape traditional engraving. I heard Zeiss Drive Safe lense has Z shape engraving with DS letter underneath, but mine is different. Do you know about this?
It can be either
