I have the full 2012 sets, and when showing some guys at work, we realized the card art for the "StockCar" series has a knock off logo for our company, Hughes Performance. It was a hoot to see that!
Im just new on the hot wheels community but your videos really give me more appreciation on the collections. Hope more videos to come. Sending love from philippines.
I think Steve Vandervate said a long time ago that the HW team spent "every penny" they could of the allowed budget on these to get the licensed decos as detailed as possible. They were really expensive to make supposedly. So, I think it's safe to assume we may never get a set like this again.
I’m super jealous! I have been looking for a quick buy for this whole set for a little while now since I finished all the Car Culture, Team Transports and Boulevard releases. I picked up all the Johnny Lightning funny car and top fuel legends releases since I love vintage drag racing and before I knew the Dragstrip Demons Hot Wheels set existed. Great video and a total surprise to see this on your channel! Make sure you add the Pure Hell & Winged Express 100% box, the Rat Trap Fuel Altered Racer 100% box and the Oil Can series releases with Tommy Ivo and Frank Pedregon!
Thank you for this video. That is one of my favorites as well. I have a couple of them from garage sales that have been, loved on, per se. Most of the tampos have been rubbed off. But you can still kind of see what they were. If you look a little more carefully at those AFX cars, they didn't move the wheels closer together. They set the bodies back on the frame. This would allow the car to essentially go down the track on two wheels without the use of wheelie bars. So yes, it is a weight distribution thing. But it's not moving the rear wheels closer, it's moving the whole body back on the frame. The invention of things like the electric water pump, gives them the ability to shorten the hoses, creating the more efficient cooling system. And those engine blocks were made out of cast iron. With big cast iron heads. So the front end of that car still weighs twice as much as the rear. I remember watching those races on Saturday morning, after cartoons. When I was a kid. Drag racing was a big deal back in the day. Drew a lot of attention to california, to racing, to Hot Wheels as a product. It was good for everybody all the way around. Snake and Mongoose had all kinds of things for sale. T-shirts, bumper stickers, bicycles, you name it, they put their name on it. Just one question though.. No Jungle Jim?
I picked up the Landy Dodge and the Prudhomme Army cars and the black Cuda when they came out. Those were the ones that resonated with me from the pages of Car Craft and Hot Rod as a kid. I missed the white Cuda and the Pulde War Eagle. Glad the white Cuda is coming back soon!
What a fabulous set. I only have 1 of these. The black Mustang. Would love to have the complete set. Wish Hot Wheels would do something like this again. With the popularity of gassers right now, a new set would sell out everywhere
Great purchase my man. You just scored the holy grail of Big Motor Dragster American Muscle cars I go for. I knew deep down inside there wasa muscle car lover in you. I got a few of them when they were affordable. Just Breathtaking. Looking forward to the blister cracking vids.
Awesome set! That was very hard to put together back in the day. I saw a couple on this video that I've never even seen, never mind managed to add to my collection. Thanks for a great video!
Well that's the whole scam of hot wheels. 98% of hot wheels customers can't complete the purchase. And now it's even more harder to finish buying cause the sets of cars have been split up into multi packs. You're forced to buy 8 cars you don't want just to get 2 cars you do.
Ok the cuda in the transport is a 70/71 and the demons one is a 72. You can see clearly when you show both rear ends. 70/71 rear end came with the slot tail lights and blacked out tail treatment and 72-74's came circle tail lights. 😊
Excellent video! Couldn't think of a better set of cars to show! This is my favorite set of cars from Mattel. I remember missing several of these castings because they were hard to find an low and behold they show up at Big Lots at a super good price. The wedge dragsters evaded me and kept me out looking for the Dragstrip Demons for a very long time. Growing up I watched these cars on the Wide Wide World of Sports ! Thanks John, can't wait for your next Dragstrip Demons video.
I was fortunate several years ago to purchase a full set of the Vintage Racing cars [minus the Datsun] from another collector. I only have a few of the Dragstrip Demon cars, but I got the ones I really wanted.
I think I have about a third of the Dragstrip Demons, since not every wave seemed to hit stores in Ottawa. I picked up most of the ones I could find that looked like normal cars and the funny cars but I remember passing on things like the Wedge Dragsters, which I somewhat regret now. My two favourites out of the ones that I have are the silver English Leather Corvette funny car and the Bubble Up Firebird funny car. I only ever found one each of the Corvette, Firebird, and Mustang funny cars from this series.
Man first off what a awesome way of selling off a collection then using it for his kids college funds. This set is fantastic looking and sucks I wasn’t collecting at the time but could only imagine how much some of these go for now a days. That’s wild how many cars there are in this as well because you definitely dont get that many in todays day and age. Really interested in seeing how you display some of these as well. Absolutely love your videos like this!
Thanks for showing all the Dragstrip Demons, I absolutely love them, especially Snake and mongoose ones. I met Don at Milan Dragstrip in Michigan and got his autograph
I have been buying and storing away hot wheels in big sealed plastic tubs with instructions not to be opened until 2040 by my family members I am 58 years old now and I should be long gone from this life when they open up these seven time capsules I prepared and hopefully they have each one properly appraised they might be worth something more than I payed for them .included are a lot of TH and STH by themselves unopened in pristine condition should be worth a lot in 2040. Back in 1969 my parents bought me for Christmas most of the redlinds offered for that time and of course I never took care of them and by the mid seventies they had been totally played out and thrown out in time and I was well into my forties when I realized if I only knew what I know now back then . I am sure I am not alone in this manner of thinking.so I started collecting here and there not opening anything and now maybe I made a smart move by doing this . We will see or they will see if the may be.
Just WOW! What a great collection! I was in high school when all those guys were racing. Watching the drags on TV and getting the drag racing magazines. A ton of memories with those names! Thanks for sharing. As for collecting I'd love to but they are above my budget.
They don't know what magazine means. Another bunch of toys falling into the wrong hands. You don't have to know what you've got cause this isn't your generation's product.
@@Gma7788 I see no reason to denigrate people you don't know. Your comment lacks nuance. This is also not a case of toys falling into the wrong hands. You are welcome to delete your comment to me, and further, not comment on any of my comments anymore.
While I may not be fully into dragsters, I can certainly appreciate the detail. Really great cars here, particularly those crazy looking funny cars. Some of these also appear to have wheels not seen anywhere else.
I want them bad also and have the gasser set but when the price is any where from 60 to 120 i cant hang theres to many lol but definitely happy for ya lamely ur collection definitely deserves this set
Great video! I remember when these came out. They didn't sell very well. They ended up at a chain called "Five Below" for a few bucks each. If we only knew.
Yeah I was fortunate to have been able to buy most of these cars (along with vintage racing) back when I was in high school. I honestly think this was peak hot wheels premium. I don’t really collect any of the new premium sets anymore with the 2012/2013 boulevard being the last premium cars I bought. I only buy RLC and new models in the mainlines
Thank you for spending the money and making this video! I am fortunate enough to have a few of these bought on original release and I have the Hawaiian variation with the mag wheels up front.
I completed my set in 2013,never opened and still in cherry condition today the details are superb🔥🏆🔥 it would be great if another DSD set is released awesome vid 👍🏽 thank you for sharing.
You missed the "Champion" Sticker on the Older White "Snake II" model (27 of 30, in the set) right in front of the rear wheel, it's not on the New Team Transport Model, lol.
I too would love to have both the 2009 and 2010 sets. Just recently came upon your page, love it. Where di you get those dispalys? Can they be ordered or purchased? Where would one find them ?
So happy to see a collector get them. Great set too. Can't wait to see em all together. You could cut out the middle divider out of two sections to display the red&blue dragster and complete the look, never found them on the peg, thanks for sharing with us and take care everyone 🙏
The "rough casting" you refer to is actually a characteristic of that era of drag racing. Just like the placement of the rear end for the cars or the 60s. In the early 70's the started utilizing full fiberglass bodies. The smooth rounded shape actually improved aerodynamics.
Have these sets as well, my favourite! Always thought it a little unusual, some cars have treaded back tires ( Code red, and Ramchargers) rather than slicks.
Amazing wow omg 😲 what else can I say those castings are awesome, I would definitely open them as well if I had them, can't wait for your opening video of these castings
Hotwheels sure did a good job on those cars, my favorite is the Army car followed by the Blue Max but I dont remember seeing it. Maybe I missed it while I was hitting fast forward....
The only thing I don’t like about this set is the amount of cars that have the wrong tire and wheel package in the front. It really messes up the beautiful liveries and history of the cars.
I got this film 8 hours ago and I'm still picking up my Jaw bone off the floor lol what set of the model's man why cant hot wheels do this kind thing at least one every for the heavy collector to keep guys who would never sell only death required for sale lol
as a drag racer this would be my Holy Grail along with the Snake & Mongoose RLC Haulers from several years ago!! I have a few of these in my collection. I wish the new Team Transporters haulers were more realistic (cabs are way too small to scale)
