Agreed, the character arcs were complete, the story goal was complete. To continue the series would really be starting a new story from scratch, which mean if you want to use the same characters, they need brand new arcs and brand new story goals that don’t repeat/regress into being identical to what was already covered in the past seasons. What season 3 feels like is they’re meandering at the end of a finished story and not properly starting a new one. Sequels/new arcs need to justify their existence and so far there’s just no justification to continue following these characters if the writers aren’t going to do anything meaningful with them.
I wish the show would stuck with being episodic. I liked that almost every episode was Mando going to another planet, have a cool action scene, and take down a bad guy. Sure it wasn't deep, but it was way more fun.
I think they have always done good on the mandolorian and I like this season it just feels like random episodes. There still really good, just kind of random
Episode 4 has a child in the belly of a pterodactyl for 2 days and the rest of the Mandalorians just let it happen. So much of this season is just trash.
Season 2 was very formulaic imo. I enjoyed it overall but it made me want season 3 to be more serialized and character driven. Sadly what we’re getting is just an underwritten mess.
I agree, I loved how S1 felt like an older Sci fi or western serialised show, where the point was the characters, not so much plot. IDK. The grander plot takes away from what they had going, I think.
It's like Mando is back at the beginning of his development. He is cold and shows no emotions towards nobody. To be fair, it's hard with the helmets but I felt his personality more in the last season.
Exactly. I am introduced to Stars Wars through Mandalorian & the main reason is Fatherhood of Mando & Grogu but now they are deviating & pushing Bo katan to become the leader 😢
Not really, Bad batch is the same in quality, if not worse. Almost all of its episodes are filler. There is no overarching plot, and nearly all characters are 1 dimensional with very little character development. That's not to mention the lack of tension in fight scenes due to imperial incompetence and lazy writing. Why would the bad batch return to Cid when they already know she is untrustworthy?
I agree they honestly should have dropped in, I don't really mind Mando's appearance in the otherwise mid Book of Boba Fett. But really if this is going to be focussed around Bo Kotan, just make a Bo Katan show. Cause now we're just watching Mando, who's pretty much completed his arc, look after Grogu who's also just completed and Ark, and Bo Katan has (understandibly) taken the spotlight. You could make a show about her that still follows Mando for a few episodes.
Seems you remained correct, seen as the new episode was an entirely pointless sidequest with some Bo Katan stuff at the end And whoopsie, won't be getting Mando getting better with the darksaber now
The thing I find baffling about this season is how they could have made it work by simply moving Din’s redemption to the end of the season. By doing that, it would make the few actions he does for the Mandalorian Covert, like saving Pav Vizla’s son, giving his land on Nevaro to the covert, and trying to reunite some of the Mandalorians, have much more weight to them since they are noble acts in tribute to his people. It wouldn’t feel like the writers were just wasting time, and give the writers an opportunity to truly build upon Mandalorian culture through questioning whether or not bathing in the living waters is really necessary. They could also use that opportunity to explore the other Mandalorian characters by having them express their interpretations of Din’s attempts at redemption. Bo Katan’s underbaked arc could also be fixed because her primary goal is to reunite as retake Mandalore, so assisting Din would benefit her directly. Honestly, what the heck were the writers on to not use this?
Katie Sackhoff did an interview about Season 3 and she said it would blow people's minds. There have been some cool and interesting moments for sure but nothing particularly mind blowing as of yet we will see what the last 3 episodes bring. Also in that interview she insinuated that Bo Katan was actually the villain and no one can guess what her true plans and motives are.
Totally agree with this video. I think not having Grogu in this season would have fixed many of its problems. I feel like Gorgu and Din’s relationship should be replaced by Bo and Din’s!
Mando has accomplished so much up until this point, he basically should be nominated to be the Mandalorian clan leader at this point, the story should’ve switched track to a conflict between Mando who won the darksaber by right, and Bo Katann who needs the darksaber to unite Mandalor, & this could’ve kicked off a war between the two Mandolorian factions. Grogu never should have returned unless it was about a plot down the line of the war where Bo Katann perhaps launches an attack on Luke’s new Jedi temple to kidnap Grogu to force Mando into defeat, or if Moff Gideon somehow returned.
Why are so many people not actually holding Jon Favreau responsible? He let himself be credited and took all the money to make a mediocre season of TV. He was paid millions. I don't care what happened behind the scenes, working with the execs is normal for show writers, even if you don't agree, you can still compromise, or...make a plan for the series and have it pre-approved by the executives before starting?
Season 2 was setting Mando up to be the greatest Mandalore ever and reunite his people and reclaim Mandalore. Season 3 threw all that in the trash and turned Mando into a useless man in distress that can't even swim. Sad to see what the leadership of Disney is doing to Mando.
I wonder if Andor not coming out would have me trying to defend the show. Like I thought some cool stuff inbetween a lot of filler would be as good as star wars would get but the way Andor had competent writing, interesting character arcs and action with stakes it just put all the quality of the other shows to shame
Episode 5 was the first episode this season where anything has even happened. Even if you don't think this season hasn't made the Mandalorians as a whole a bunch of idiots who can't prevent their own kids from getting eaten, it's just been empty so far
And even then, episode 5 was mostly about the dumb seaweed pirate and Nevarro. The only relevant plotline set into motion was the ending scene regarding Gideon.
Ppl that hadn't watched The Book of Bobba would be confused for sure.... A mistake of Disney to pretend that the fandom of a series must watch another to understand what is going on.
You are BRILLIANT ❤ because EVERY single POINT you made is astoundingly accurate and amazingly astute!! You should be a script editor on the show because you highlighted everything that was paramount to making this season the success that it's been in the past two. They really dropped the ball, and the season was far too short, especially on episodes that counted. Too long for ones that didn't.
The writing is reminding me a lot of GOT S8. They rushed through the whole being accepted instead of having it be his long term arch while doing other stuff and maybe realize he’s better off alone or something. They messed up in canceling S2’s emotional ending like it makes it feel like all that was for nothing.
THANK YOU!!!!! I haven't been able to put my feelings into words and this video did it better than I could've. I couldn't figure out why season 3 felt so boring and off, like something was missing. This made my feelings make sense.
It feels like Dave Filoni is spread thin. I imagine he’s been working primarily on the Ahsoka show, which is where most of his fame and success comes from. It seems that the introduction of Thrawn in Ahsoka might spill into Mando. The budget for Mando seems to have gone to that show also. I mean there are no reoccurring characters in this show so far. It’s Bo-Katan, the armorer, Grogu and mando primarily. Everyone else seems to be in quick shots with no meaningful development.
Ok guys, season 3 has officially aired. Now say what you will. If that wasn't a game of thrones season 6, slow burn beginning and grogu battle of the bastard king in the north ending, I don't know what is. 🎉🎉❤❤
You hit the nail on the head with this. Your thoughts 100% match my own in this video, and it's clear this is higher-ups in the studio meddling with a show thar had been their gold standard. Don't fix what ain't broke, Baby Yoda (I refuse to use that awful other name more suitable for a Gamorrean) is going to overplay his presence and lose his appeal. They should have done this season without him until, at the very least, the final episode.
Great video! Watching season 3 I felt something was off and you perfectly summed up all the problems of this season. Lack of direction and lacklustre pacing, pointless episodes (I chuckled when you expressed hope that the show will pick up the pace after episode 5, can't wait for your comments on the droids episode xD), Nevarro (why the heck this town doesn't have any defences whatsoever, it's stupid). Grogu feels out of place - he's cute, but him being cute is getting boring, and imo he should have just stayed with Luke, this would be such a bitter-sweet but fitting ending for season 2. But then he just got back immediately, mitigating the emotional impact of season 2 ending. And how they handled this reunion? It happened in a spin-off show... And the writers clearly don't know what to do with him now. Like, are we supposed to take him becoming a Mandalorian warrior seriously? But the biggest problem in my opinion is Din. As you said, he doesn't have a character arc anymore, only a quest to get redeemed. And it's frustrating cause the opportunity was right there! Make this quest longer but more impactful. Make Mando question the creed and what it means to be a Mandalorian. Make him realize that he doesn't need to follow old dogma to be one, that the Armorer's way is not the only way. Maybe then he would be able to wield the Darksaber, as he wouldn't be conflicted anymore. Then he could become the one to unite the tribes, the bridge between the old and the new. Instead, Mando is just there, and at some point, he's starting to feel like a secondary character in his own show.
Despite all the comments here talking about what Mando season 3 could have done better or do better i personally enjoy every episode and I think it's still the greatest StarWars we had in years
I understand why some fans are feeling let down, Din is getting less time, Grogu coming back so soon and in a different show. But personally I am loving the focus on Bo Katan and hoping for more rebels connections like Ezra, Sabine, and Thrawn. Obviously we've been hearing that some of these characters are or may be in Ahsoka. Also interested to see what the remaining imperials and Gideon are up to and finding out more about how Gideon got the Darksaber and what happened to Kelleran
Just watched Episode 6 and I was thinking What the hell happened? The show feels like mediocre video game side quests There are barely any stakes or character development at all
I watched and enjoyed the first two seasons but after hearing about Boba Fett and Grogu coming back out of season I haven't bothered with season 3 at all, I'm just not interested in what might happen
I have found this season to be very underwhelming and uninteresting so far. While I liked the story arc of Mando going to Mandalore and trying to be accepted back into his tribe (which unfortunately only lasted three episodes), I’ve found the other storylines (the mission to rescue a foundling, the space pirates, Grogu training to be a foundling, Bo Katan becoming the leader of all Mandalorians, all of the mysterious stuff going on with some of the former imperials, etc) to be a bit boring. Also, I don’t like that Grogu is back. It just undermines the finale of season 2. I think that he should’ve stayed with Luke and this season should’ve ONLY been about Mando trying to be “redeemed” and along the way maybe trying to figure out who he wants to be, with the season finale also being the SERIES finale.
I've enjoyed this season of Mandalorian for what it is, but it's definitely no where near the quality of the past two seasons. It's similar to Obi Wan in terms of having a bunch of random stuff that does little for the overall plot. To be honest bad batch season 2 has been better than the concurrent Mandalorian episodes.
i honestly really liked the season finale, but i really struggled to get through the beginning of the season because it just felt SO uninteresting compared to the s1 &2
I like Bo Katan becoming more prominent but they should be doing more with Din. They should be an interesting duo and they have good chemistry but both characters are undeveloped. Also I don't have an issue with Bo saving Din once in a while. Din isn't perfect and has made a ton of mistakes in the past.
I like that they show the flaws in The New Republic, but it is the Mandalorian. I wouldn't say it is a bad show but at the moment, it is a bad Mandalorian Season
This is an incredible and thoughtful criticism of how Emory this season is and how its a cheap Grogu money shot show that is becoming the Bo Katan show
Idk if you know this but the only reason grogu was brought back was because KK wanted him back, and interfered with the BOBF which almost caused JF to quit
I liked the first season, disliked the second and when I heard they brought grogu and mando back together in a different show I was out of season 3. Seems like that was the right choice
I love what you’re saying, but I feel as though it’s already too late. With just a couple of episodes left, there’s no way they’ll be able to make up for the meaninglessness we’ve seen so far. I hate to say it, but The Mandalorian peaked in season two. 😢
I think his character growth by learning that bots aren’t all evil It does feel like they couldn’t to a Jew series surrounding no kata after book of boba fett.
I'm personally enjoying the show enough so far but the criticisms people are pointing out are very very VERY valid. The story seems very goofy/ kid friendly/ doesn't make sense. I'm just not taking the story too seriously but I do hope the next 3 episodes pick things up for sure.
The season has been very disappointing and after having to wait for 2 years we deserved better than this. It doesn’t even matter if these last 3 episodes are really good because the season as a whole has already been ruined.
I also found the season hollow, but also for another reason you didn't mention. In the first half of the season, the majority of the fight scenes come out of nowhere, with little to no buildup and often with a jarring transition. So I had very little investment in them and was left wondering "OK, why do I care? It's just another random encounter to fill up screen time." Maybe if they had done their homework and put more energy into the non-fight scenes, those fights would have seemed more meaningful.
something that wasn't mentioned is how the children of the watch are viewed as good people, they aren't though, they're an extremist cult and bo-katan knew this not even characters like pre viszla followed "the creed" and maybe mandalore being demolished made its survivors become desperate but still bo-katan saw a lot of things in her life, she wouldn't join it i feel it'd be better if din brought the mandalore water back to the armorer only for the armorer to say it isnt actual water from the mines because its just water, not magical like they think and that'd cause Din to finally learn the truth and leave the clan for good
It very much feels like they’re just going to reveal thrawn at the end of mando s3 as being behind everything including moff gideon in order to bring viewers over to the ahsoka show which is annoying bc the two shows should be able to be intertwined without the downfall in writing we’re seeing
I thought with the order 66 flashback Grogu was going to meet Yoda that would have been interesting, what a missed opportunity. This whole third series of Mando feels like John Favreau doesn't know what to do next, the main story of Grogu becoming a jedi is finished, now you can honestly kill off Grogu and nothing would change. It's like he is writing all these filler episodes until he comes up with a new story.
I found it insane that Mando’s arc of being accepted back into the tribe was concluded within three episodes. What season 3 feels like is they’re meandering at the end of a finished story and not properly starting a new one. Sequels/new arcs need to justify their existence and so far there’s just no justification to continue following these characters if the writers aren’t going to do anything meaningful with them.
Hollow-wood
@@stevesmiff you mean ashoka?
I wish the show would stuck with being episodic. I liked that almost every episode was Mando going to another planet, have a cool action scene, and take down a bad guy. Sure it wasn't deep, but it was way more fun.
I think they have always done good on the mandolorian and I like this season it just feels like random episodes. There still really good, just kind of random
Episode 4 has a child in the belly of a pterodactyl for 2 days and the rest of the Mandalorians just let it happen. So much of this season is just trash.
I agree with the first part. However, I disagree that they’re still good. Episode 2 was tolerable, Episode 5 was fun at times. The rest is garbage.
just feels like there is a lack of an overall plot now
Season 2 was very formulaic imo.
Episode 6 is the biggest evidence of this so far
Exactly. I am introduced to Stars Wars through Mandalorian & the main reason is Fatherhood of Mando & Grogu but now they are deviating & pushing Bo katan to become the leader 😢
I love that the bad batch is objectively better in most respects to the Mandalorian. Hopefully the Mandalorian picks up in the second half very soon.
Mandalorian*
For real. Bad Batch s2 really surprised me at just how great it is.
@@marwana4834All these problems are shared by the Mandalorian as well, except that Mando only has 8 episodes to work with.
This is par for the course for shows and movies nowadays. Putting something out is more important than putting something good out.
Man episode 6 was even worst imo.
Seems you remained correct, seen as the new episode was an entirely pointless sidequest with some Bo Katan stuff at the end
And whoopsie, won't be getting Mando getting better with the darksaber now
What amazes me is that season 1 and 2 were written by John February, and yet season 3 feels like a completely different TV show
The thing I find baffling about this season is how they could have made it work by simply moving Din’s redemption to the end of the season.
I'm one of those people who didn't know you needed to watch BoBF, I'm sad
He has been saved 3-4 times so far
It’s so blatant now lol
I wonder if Andor not coming out would have me trying to defend the show. Like I thought some cool stuff inbetween a lot of filler would be as good as star wars would get but the way Andor had competent writing, interesting character arcs and action with stakes it just put all the quality of the other shows to shame
Same, I don’t know if Andor severely raised my expectations and I would’ve liked this season beforehand, or if it’s just as bad as I think it is.
@@ImTheReverse Combination of both, if I'm being honest
Episode 5 was the first episode this season where anything has even happened. Even if you don't think this season hasn't made the Mandalorians as a whole a bunch of idiots who can't prevent their own kids from getting eaten, it's just been empty so far
And even then, episode 5 was mostly about the dumb seaweed pirate and Nevarro. The only relevant plotline set into motion was the ending scene regarding Gideon.
Season 3 feels like Favreau was putting off writing a term project until the night before it was due.
One can only imagine the oddness of Grogu's armor/helmet if he ever uses it.
Ppl that hadn't watched The Book of Bobba would be confused for sure.... A mistake of Disney to pretend that the fandom of a series must watch another to understand what is going on.
4:42 I think thats exactly what they’re doing
You are BRILLIANT ❤ because EVERY single POINT you made is astoundingly accurate and amazingly astute!!
You should be a script editor on the show because you highlighted everything that was paramount to making this season the success that it's been in the past two.
They really dropped the ball, and the season was far too short, especially on episodes that counted. Too long for ones that didn't.
I agree with you, they definitely shouldn’t have brought Grogu back, and this show should have ended after Season 2
The writing is reminding me a lot of GOT S8. They rushed through the whole being accepted instead of having it be his long term arch while doing other stuff and maybe realize he’s better off alone or something. They messed up in canceling S2’s emotional ending like it makes it feel like all that was for nothing.
Yes, The Mandolorian should’ve ended after Season 2
dropped It half way through episode 2. It felt like it was wasting my time
I need to know why they played the video message twice in the last episode. Like, why???? That's like Film 101!!! 😭😭
THANK YOU!!!!! I haven't been able to put my feelings into words and this video did it better than I could've. I couldn't figure out why season 3 felt so boring and off, like something was missing. This made my feelings make sense.
I thought Mando was joking when he said he was gonna cleanse himself in the waters on Mandalore... did not enjoy this storyline.
Well he is a privileged male so...
I'm sure the showmakers saying they don't intend the show to end or progress to a big finale has nothing to do with this :)
Ok so it’s not just me. This season is definitely off somehow.
YES You're saying everything I was thinking!
John Favreau can write good films. He isn’t a show runner. Disney needs to learn the difference between the two.
True, he was mainly responsible for the train wreck that was book of boba fett as well the destruction of the character
Despite all the comments here talking about what Mando season 3 could have done better or do better i personally enjoy every episode and I think it's still the greatest StarWars we had in years
Do a video on succession
I understand why some fans are feeling let down, Din is getting less time, Grogu coming back so soon and in a different show. But personally I am loving the focus on Bo Katan and hoping for more rebels connections like Ezra, Sabine, and Thrawn. Obviously we've been hearing that some of these characters are or may be in Ahsoka. Also interested to see what the remaining imperials and Gideon are up to and finding out more about how Gideon got the Darksaber and what happened to Kelleran
Just watched Episode 6 and I was thinking
What the hell happened?
The show feels like mediocre video game side quests
There are barely any stakes or character development at all
Man that Lizzo Jack Black episode… this is worse than Kenobi
No it’s not
Yeah that was next level dogshit
I watched and enjoyed the first two seasons but after hearing about Boba Fett and Grogu coming back out of season I haven't bothered with season 3 at all, I'm just not interested in what might happen
you're not missing much, literally nothing important has happened
We’re 5 episodes in, here’s what has happened so far: Moff Gideon escaped offscreen, Mandalorians might be involved. There, now you’re all caught up!
@@ImTheReverse They way the mandalorians weren't even involved in the end-
Like a bantha!
I wish that Mando never got Grogu back, it would have made his sacrifice much more emotional and significant
Excellent video, and you're spot on 👏👏👏
The book of Boba Fett was definitely Kathleen. Kenny’s fault not Jon Favreau
10:29 such a missed opportunity to say "somehow".
i honestly really liked the season finale, but i really struggled to get through the beginning of the season because it just felt SO uninteresting compared to the s1 &2
I wouldn't say it is a bad show but at the moment, it is a bad Mandalorian Season
thx as usual, but for this video, ur english voc did improve & enhanced mine ♥
This is an incredible and thoughtful criticism of how Emory this season is and how its a cheap Grogu money shot show that is becoming the Bo Katan show
Reject Disney cringe. Embrace Legends kino.
You forget the other mandos aren’t characters they’re props
Meanwhile at episode 7, 8 and 9
My feelings exactly.
Grogu is a foundling, so he is a Mandalorian already.
I wish this season would be about din and gorugu and their family relationship and Grougus training
It’s been proven that the majority of the fans don’t want dialogue or character work. We got that in the 3rd episode and everyone bitched.
It was the wrong character
So it got better, but not by that much really.
let grogu LIVE he is a sweet baby and is just trying his best. this season is lit y’all need to chill
Idk if you know this but the only reason grogu was brought back was because KK wanted him back, and interfered with the BOBF which almost caused JF to quit
they made bo-katan the main character replacing Din from his own tv show
I liked the first season, disliked the second and when I heard they brought grogu and mando back together in a different show I was out of season 3. Seems like that was the right choice
I love what you’re saying, but I feel as though it’s already too late. With just a couple of episodes left, there’s no way they’ll be able to make up for the meaninglessness we’ve seen so far.
I hate to say it, but The Mandalorian peaked in season two. 😢
Woouuu I thought I was the only one feeling this.
I think his character growth by learning that bots aren’t all evil
It does feel like they couldn’t to a Jew series surrounding no kata after book of boba fett.
I'm personally enjoying the show enough so far but the criticisms people are pointing out are very very VERY valid. The story seems very goofy/ kid friendly/ doesn't make sense. I'm just not taking the story too seriously but I do hope the next 3 episodes pick things up for sure.
Also the dialogue and writing in general is sooo bad, especially after watching Andor
It's just another random encounter to fill up screen time." Maybe if they had done their homework and put more energy into the non-fight scenes, those fights would have seemed more meaningful.
something that wasn't mentioned is how the children of the watch are viewed as good people, they aren't though, they're an extremist cult and bo-katan knew this
not even characters like pre viszla followed "the creed" and maybe mandalore being demolished made its survivors become desperate but still bo-katan saw a lot of things in her life, she wouldn't join it
i feel it'd be better if din brought the mandalore water back to the armorer only for the armorer to say it isnt actual water from the mines because its just water, not magical like they think and that'd cause Din to finally learn the truth and leave the clan for good
are you going to make baby yoda/grogu with subtitles 5
I completely agree
Season 3 is the Bo Katan disney kid show
Woah about learning how to use the darksaber? Boy do I have news for you
They should have made this Bo Katan season 1 with Mando being an actual side quest
