- To troubleshoot a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) that may be causing your computer turning on but no display on monitor, the cause will be different depending on whether you are getting a successful POST or not. In this video I show you how to test the graphics card, whether its a PCIe powered graphics card or a motherboard powered GPU.
Note: This is NOT A REPAIR Video, only troubleshoot and replace. LinusTechTips did a couple on videos on this, and plenty of others, see below link, where they use an "Oven Method" to maybe bring your video card back from the dead.

Dude, you saved me a ton of time and money. Didn't need to watch more than 3 minutes to realize I plugged the damn DVI cable to the wrong port and that's what caused my issue... Brother I’m having issues with a new gpu upgrade, it loads up a black screen 😕 totally confused why this happens
One thing you forgot was to swap the ram over into different slots, if you have them in the "incorrect" slots, it may bootup with onboard GPU but the dedicated GPU won't like it.

The beep (neither three beeps for a missing ram and single beep for working properly) and test from my motherboard that has it own graphic card gave me proof that my 4 years old GT630 finally dead.

To fix this problem is find the manufacture or brand of the motherboard also find the model as well then search it on google your model with "beep code" Then u will see the code of what they saying,and no this is not a gpu problem

If you have a gpu back plate that’s why because that’s a cooling method but if you don’t and if you just have fans whenever you boot up your fans should spin if they don’t check pcie connections and check psu connections

I too have similar problem for my gtx 1060 it's less than 3 years old the fan of card is spinning but no signal to monitor through HDMI

If you're switching out cards for troubleshooting, don't you need to remove drivers for the old before installing the new in Windows 10?
No, He's only talking about P.O.S.T. (power on self test) which occurs before windows is even booting up. He's only checking for hardware issues not software.

i have gt 710 nvidia. when bios is set to pcie 16 video configuration, no display. but computer boots up fine .when i set to onboard graphics with attached video card, it boots up fine. i can install all nvidia drivers even use nvidia control panel.but when i connect my monitor to cards vga i get no display?is videocard dead then why it appearing in device manager? it says working properly.and also i have msi gaming plus b 360 motherboard that has a led indicator in pcie slot. according to the manual of board. red light shows running in 16x mode white shows 8x mode..i see white led after i start computer? why is it running in 8x mode? i tested another card gt730 on same slot it woks fine with red indication showing display? is my graphics card dead i need quick reply......

A tip for people having problems with the 550ti from palit, this gpu has shitty thermal paste from the factory that will dry up over time. If you get no display on that gpu replace the thermal paste and it should be working just fine after that

First of all. Thanks for your amazing tutorial. Since I can see that you know a lot about these issues I want to ask you something. I have a gtx 1060 6 gb and I am having some issues with it. I was playing metro and the game suddenly crashed but the screen had no signal. Then I restarted the PC and it kept on working a little bit so I tried running the game again and the game did not even load when it creashed again. I restarted again the PC and when it was loading windows I did not have any signal on the screen and the fans sounded really loud. I have not been able to use the video card ever since but I can use the onboard graphics to have access to the PC. Once I could get into the PC I checked the eventvwr ad I noticed that there were problems wth DWM.EXE, so I think that when windows tries to load the visual effects used by AERO the graphics card crashes. Is it my video card? Or could it be my PSU?... My PSU is relatively old, it is like 7 years old and it is a THERMALTAKE TR2 430 Watts... The GPU requests 400 watts as the minimum wattage and the rig was working fine for about 1 month. Thanks for any suggestion or piece of advice.

Help me pls, so whenever I have the graphics card installed it will not show anything, but if I will unplug the dvi cable and plug a vga cable to the motherboard the display will show up. I thought if you'll install a gpu the cable should be plugged in there but why is mine the other way around?

Ive got a crazy one... this core i5 hp pc.... will turn on just fine for a few hours then shuts down power cycles , fails to boot then beeps 4 times... ive done everything i know except change the Processor, however wait for a day or two return everything as it was it turns on just fine but guaranteed it do the same ..... what could be the issue?

I installed diffirent gpu for a test… then I installed back my own gpu and the fans are not spinning as well there is no display… power led light on gpu is on but doesn’t work… What should I do?

I’m building my own pc. I finished up everything and everything seemed to work nicely when I turned on but I got no display on it. Of course I did everything possible on RUclips and still nothing so I bought a new mother board and still the same ( used new cables, took graphics card out and try to make it work on the cpu alone not sure if that’s possible with new motherboards checked connection etc etc even tried some cmos reset. Now i thought it might be the bios setting somehow corrupted that;s why i got a new board but it didn’t seem like it.
Please give me something to try.

@Neon k same things happening to me, my pc seemed to boot up perfectly, all the fans are running and it seems fine but it won’t show a display on my monitor, my monitor works with my PS4 fine but it won’t work with my PC, I’ll let you know if I find a fix because I have to same problem..

Best pc tech vids on RUclips. I have just got a GTx 660. I plug it in to my prebuilt pc and all turns on and gpu fan spins but I get a black screen! I switch the hdmi to motherboard, still black screen. I remove graphics card and screen works through motherboard! I think my psu is 300w could this be the problem? Please help as I really want to play Bannerlords 😂

Brother my gigabyte 1050ti' s (low profile) fan don't spin even temp reaches 85 degrees. Also tried with softwares like msi afterburner but didn't worked, fan is working when i tested it with the battery, but don't spin when attach to the gpu's pcb. Can you help?

I wanted to swap my motherboard out for a better one, long story short i swapped the mb's and the computer would turn on without gpu in (i have previously used this motherboard n gpu together) as soon as i put the gpu in and turn on, no power up but the LED's come on for the gpu to say that its receiving power, i take the gpu out and it powers up, long story short couldnt get the comp to power up when adding the gpu
So ive now swapped back to my old mb and now the same problem again, when adding the gpu to the old mb cant get it to power up and now when i take out the gpu it powers up but when pressing the power button to turn it off it wont turn off...
I know most people will probably say the gpu is faulty or dead but its not cus it worked fine today before i swapped anything out, of course you can say static elec has damaged it but thats not the case either, as i have this problem before with this gpu and the computer not booting (what i did to fix it last time was take everything out put it back together again and it magically just worked)
Using a EVGA Ge force GTX 1070 and last night I cleaned my pc and took the case apart but didn't remove any wires. Today I go to turn pc on and the fans under the graphics card will do a half spin and stop and I have no display on monitor. On the m board I have a red light on the CPU LED. Any advice on what I might have done?
PC turns on cpu cooler,psu fan,cooling fans, are spinning VGA fans aren't spinning but LED's working on VGA. MSI EZ DEBUG indicates CPU and quickly indicates VGA."NO SIGNAL" on monitor cannot get into bios.
Note:- this was the first boot up I was able to install windows it worked nearly 2 hours and suddenly monitor showed "NO SIGNAL". couldn't install/update bios,drivers,etc plz help😪?

What if i have the video cable plugd on the motherboards gpu, i have an externa gpu installed and my screen turns on when i have it plugd in the on board gpu (when i plug it the external gpu no screen. +my external gpu fans don t spin, the pc boots in windows just fine when i lock on device manager it shows an unknown device. (the gpu it s compatibile it s a sapphire nitro r9 380 4g on an Asus m4a89gtd pro/usb3 and an 500w power supplye from segotep BP500w 80 plus bronze. (the power supplye it s new)
hi brother, i build a pc for my sisterand put in a gtx 760 in it. it wont work on the x16 slot but only on x4. i tried the same x16 slot with an hd 5870 and it works fine and the gtx 760 works in my pc fine idk what is happening the 600w psu ist good to pls help

Good video thankyou! But people should note that not all computers beep when they are turned on.
Is that the case? Or is it some motherboards do not have any speaker for the beep code, neither built-in nor as a pin option to insert a speaker cable? I actually do not know the answer to this.
@@HealMyTech1 I belive the beep on some motherboards is disabled by default [that's my case at least],but I think every motherboard has the option

@@cmonbruh9144 I fix it exchanging the GPU card. Before I was thought my PSU not enough power or the PCI cable not working. Everything works fine just my GPU dead, maybe GPU used for long the board is dead. It does power up and GPU fan spinning at high speed.

I have a fairly new gtx 1050 ti and a good psu my pc was working fine but today i turned it on it doesn't beep mouse and keyboard are light up i tried multiple cables and i tried the onboard graphics i checked the monitor and its working on other pcs .
The fans are spinning and light up but the gpu fans start spinning for a bit and stop spinning
I today only bought a HP pavilion Ryzen 15, CPU:- AMD Ryzen 5 hex core 4600H, Graphics: integrated one and Nvidia GeForce gtx 1650Ti. I am unable to launch Nvidia control panel, I have tried everything from updating every aspect like windows, bios, graphics, starting stopping and then starting Nvidia services nothing helped so far. The Nvidia control panel is unable to launch doesn't matter how many times you click on it. Please help.
My gpu fans spins like 100% and windows is not able to detect it but my spare gpu is working fine on the same machine. How to fix? Tks

My gigabyte rx 560 was running fine with asus mobo,but yesterday no display, without card booting fine,i find that when i power on graphics cards fan is spinning little lately.plz help me
Why is it an issue to plug into the on board graphics? Unplugging the graphics card seemed to work but must i leave it unplugged?
Also only my motherboard has an hdmi port
