The instrument that you wanna figure out is Geomungo (거문고/Geo-Mun-Go), the Korean traditional instrument which has more than a thousand year history. And the player's name is Park Da-Wool. He does not put his and the instrument's limit in traditional way. He has tried to figure out to figure out the way to upgrade his playing technic and to match traditional instrument with various type of modern music.
The judges weren't that thrilled though. They got very harsh critique saying that they overproduced the song and made it unnecessarily "flashy", just throwing in everything randomly. As a layperson I freaking loved it, but the judges didn't.
Well this song is called legends never die so the song needs to be on legend level... I am oversensory to sound...and this is perfection to my me...I hardly get chills...but this was perfection...I get chills all over everytime,❤
Superband2 was a competition show for musicians and vocalists to form bands together and perform in front of judges and each other. Hwang Hyeonjo is the name of the woman in the back with the drum, electronic gear and 2nd guitar (basically a producer, she can do it all) and she went on to join 3 others (Leenzy [vo.], Jeong Nayoung [gui.], Eun Ahkyung [dr.]) on the show and they named their band THE FIX. The 3 remaining from this performance (Kim Yeji [vo.], Hwang Leen [gui.], Park Dawool [geomungo or Korean harp] added (Inkyu [bass], Jeon Seongbae [dr.] and they named their band KARDI. ‘Legends Never Die’ is originally from the band Against The Current, Mako, League of Legends.
Going down a rabbit hole of reactions to this video because it brings me comfort to know that I’m not the only one ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDED BY THIS PERFORMANCE
KARDI!!!!! And Kim Yeji's vocals are incredible, especially in this performance. I freakin' LOVE this performance! I highly - HIGHLY - recommend any and all Kim Yeji and/or KARDI content. Thank you for getting to this John! ✌
The production of this is crazy. Vocal, Geomungo, and guitar are also great, but Hwang Hyun-jo, who silently created all the sounds while taking on MIDI, percussion, and second guitar, is a crazy talent. She's such a genius artist.
"Superband 2" is the name of The TV show. It was a competition show for bands. The band was literally created in the show from individuals. They decided to keep going as a band and the name is KARDI. The singer's name is Yeji Kim. She is a genius.
I have this version on repeat in my RUclips. I can’t get enough of it. Her voice, the instruments (old and modern mix together) and the arrangement was just phenomenal. I wish all of them stayed in Kardi
Ohhhh I loved the whole show when it came out. Such a treasure trove of amazing musicians! Kim Yeji was one of my favourites. She also did a quiet song that unexpectedly brought me to tears just because of the story telling in her delivery. Brilliant! 🌸🍃
House I called Home: ruclips.net/video/xdWy-5P8Wl4/видео.htmlsi=KKkO2bRVgAUK1qW9 It gives a different side to her voice and how subtle her control is ❤
I am a huge fan of KARDI. I would love to see more reaction videos about the amazing songs of Kim Ye-ji and KARDI. Let the world know about KARDI, the awesome band from South Korea.
@rafaelsmith5737 what type?? it is hard to answer. Sorry😅 just trying to listen their album or live concert videos. They released two mini albums "Chil" and "Skybound"
KARDI ❤❤❤❤❤❤ It's really really glad to have her here ! Her name is Kim Yeji (Yeji Kim) and this performance was very last round before forming a new Superband team. There are three of members in Final band "Kardi" ( Vocal. Kim Yeji , Guitar. Hwang leen , Geomungo Park Dawool and two more members of Bass , Drum)
Ahhh Kardi as they are known as. Awesome group. Yeji is amazing. You need to check out their performance on Immortal Songs. She really goes off. She also was on Korea King of Masked Singer and she won. Her vocals are amazing.
She is amazing! In that same program, a band called Crackshot participated, and their cover of "Oops i did it again" was stunning. Hope you can react to that one also, they are very talented just like Kim Yeji.
I listened to this cover a while back, and I had CHILLS all the way through. She has a stunning, STUNNING voice, and all of the musicians are excellent. You know what's weird / cool about this performance? From what I've read the female singer, Kim Yeji, went to that competition show intending to perform solo (she had already established herself as a solo performer). But she hit it off with the other musicians that appear in the Legends Never Die video, above, and they decided to perform together for the show. After the show was over, they formalized themselves as a full band and named it Kardi.
Actually the basist of this performance (the one in the back) is the basist of THE FIX. The three people in the front (Yeji, Leen and Dawol) got together with Inkyu and Sungbae in the next round and formed KARDI together. Sungbae left the group and now they're continuing as a 4 people group.
superband is always about individual musicians being either randomly paired up with others or paired up by some other decision process. She didn't join superband WITH the others in Kardi. and then they progress through the show in various mix-match setups until the finals where they form their final setup.
I knew you would like them. Kim Yeji a Voice something between hurting( like scratching a chalkboard) and absolutely joy listen to her incredibly powerful voice. Please more of Kardi. They are so underrated.
I still hope you'll try listening to Forestella's version of Legends Never Die. Forestella is a South Korean group of 4 members sung at a live performance. They participated in a competition Immortal songs 2 and won the competition.
Man, as a Superband 2 fan (meaning I've watched this right when it came out in 2021) I still get goosebumps every. single. time. I hear this performance. Also, LET'S GO KARDI!
There is another view of this song that focuses just on the singer, and stays focused on her face for another 10-20 seconds. Her face is so fierce at the end there. and the face just changes back to the baby face at the start that looks a little scared at being there. She is definitely a different person when she is singing.
Because of the spelling in the band names, many people have gotten them confused with KARD, a co-ed KPop group from 2016, who are also a typical choreographic formfactor band, just as most of KPop is today. The traditional instrument you are asking about is probably a "gayageum" (or other romanized spelling). Or maybe it's a "geomungo". I am not a professional on the subject, hehe, but I see them used on other videos. It is likely a descendant of the Chinese "guzheng", just like the Japanese "koto" is also a descendant. The Chinese guzheng is many centuries older than these Korean & Japanese versions. But one thing I wish modern Asian instrument bands do is to also electrify these ancient instruments so you can also use stomp-boxes on them for modern 20th century sound effects, like fuzz/distortion, phasering & Leslie, just like what happened to electric/electronic keyboards & guitars. You rarely see these ancient Eastern instruments, including the Indian "sitar", electrified for effects. A few have, but the majority do not, at this time.

The vocalist, guitarist and k-traditional instrument player are members of the band “KARDI”. I‘d like to recommend the music video for 'Watch Out' by KARDI. ‘Watch out’ Music video won the best Music Video Awards at the Liverpool Film Festival.
really hope you listen to all of the other amazing songs from both volumes of this show!! definitely listen to craxilver's covers; absolutely insane 🫶🏾🫶🏾
thanks for your reaction! I'd recommend checking out this song covered by the crossover quartet Forestella, and their performance of Bohemian Rhapsody as well. Enjoy!
She was all-in and didn't leave anything left on the table - I felt drained of energy just watching her and would have been scared of her if I had crossed her path at the end of the song lol!
THEY MADE AN ICONIC PERFORMANCE. WHEN I THINK OF SUPERBAND2 ALL I RMB WAS THIS STAGE AND IM A BIG FAN OF YEJI AS A VOCALIST
yeah her voice is so good and unique

Seriously? Have you ever heard this song by the incomparable Forestella? PLEASE REACT TO THAT if you truly want to be impressed! 😊👍
I'm both big Forestella and Kim Yeji and KARDI fan and love Forestella's Legends never die, but I feel this was more impressive. Different tastes.

Please Google before comment.
Its a korean trad instrument called Geomungo.
What is koto???
That instrument is the Geomungo, a traditional Korean instrument.
@@Golden__Cat it looks similar but koto has different types just like guitar, they have 13 strings and 17 strings for bass.
Whilst this is good, 7000rpm is better.
