I've taken that loose grip too far when I have successfully flung my racket into the ground in the follow through, and when I picked my racket up again afterwards it was a different shape :(
Ha! I've done the same thing. Except, mine flew out of my hand, 20 feet up in the air, only to make the long fall back to the ground :( lol Fortunately, when I picked it up, it still looked the same :)
I always know “loose your hand like a thick ship’s rope” works on many sports that require swinging. But I always wearying about my racquet flying to the court too. Tips: if you use overgrip, don’t cut your overgrip, instead.. start from the non sticky edge (the edge that you usually cut with scissor). Fold that edge into 2 of the same width (parallel to overgrip length) and start wrapping your racquet more on the flared edge ring to make it wider/ bigger. Then if you feel enough wide, start down wrapping from there by opening the fold slightly until your overgrip has no fold anymore. From that step, just wrap it regularly like normal. Since there are no cutting the overgrip, you have extra length, so you can make bigger “edge ring” of your racquet grip to prevent it from flying from your loose palm.
hi Hendrik. i play tennis socially and always tell people i am playing with or against to do the second serve like the first to get into a rhythm as many players dolly the second serve and lose many points. it doesn't matter if you lose a few but eventually it will improve and win you more. great advice by the way. thanks.
Try a drill where he just tosses and lets the ball land in front of him. If he consistently gets the toss on the same spot he will get more consistency
Many thanks for the serve tips coach Hendrk. I will try to put that into practice! On point no. 6, I already put that into my serves habit, but I frequently hit my racquet’s frame (the side that the ball supposed to leave the string bed already). Any tips on this problem coach? 🙏🏼
Glad it was helpful! For the contact point it helps to train your hand eye coordination and also keeping eyes locked longer on contact point. I will note that topic and might do a video on such drills
Hey Hendrik! I have played football in my youth and on top of that I have done martial arts for over 15 years - kickboxing/thaiboxing and MMA. I started with Tennis at the age of 35, two years ago. I think that especially kickboxing and thaiboxing is an amazing complementary sport for tennis players. Without the sparring and tournaments because the risk of injuries is too high…. But the technique and fitness training in kickboxing is amazing. Footwork, rotation, explosiveness, hand eye coordination and so much more. I play tennis 3-4 times a week because it’s like a drug for me and I am addicted but I still go 1-2 times a week to the kickboxing training for fitness and technique. It really helps me to improve my tennis game. You should check it out because I know you are a fitness freak. Would also love to hear your opinion on the technical side of kickboxing and if you have the same thoughts like me that it helps to improve the tennis game! Beste Grüße und mach weiter mit RUclips. Ich Feier deine Videos!
Hi thanks a lot for your detailed comment. I agree with you!! I have done some Muay Thai training and a lot of boxing training in the past, also working a bit on kicks. The footwork is very comparable with being light on the feet and exploding. I think it can be a great tool to improve tennis, but as you’re saying without sparring. I admire how flexible kickboxers are, I’d need some of that for sure. Liebe Grüße Hendrik
I'm 5'8" and I can serve a big serve in triple digits because most of it is proper technique plus a lot of practice on the serve like hours on hours hitting serves. You don't need to be 6ft to hit a big serve
I was late stage in a tournament today, my serve hadn’t been working at all, I wouldn’t usually watch anything touching technique the day of a match but had my best day serving I can remember. Such good content as actually useable rather than excessively over complicated. Started the match with four unreturned first serves and finished the same! Thanks!!
Hendrik- OMG, I see you don't raise your tossing arm up high, I've never seen this done before by a good player such as yourself. Did your coach teach you this? How about a video regarding this aspect?
I love how it was not only just technique tips but also some mental things because like most of tennis half of the serve is mental!
Absolutely!! Mental game is underrated 🎾
Interesting stuff mate, definitely enjoyed watching this, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it🎾💪
Thank you so much. The hitting through the glass is what I needed
@@bournejason66 that mentality really helps to crush serves 🎾💪

All truth I love this perspective on serving
Hey appreciate it 🎾💪
Thanks!
Thanks..great tips..will improve my serve for sure
Happy to help and good luck!! 🎾💪
I have a player who has a fluid swing on his flat serve but he tosses ball from right to left. What is the optimal or a consistent toss he should do?
Try a drill where he just tosses and lets the ball land in front of him. If he consistently gets the toss on the same spot he will get more consistency
Thanks Henrik, very useful!

Absolutely height helps but is not a prerequisite for fast serves
This is great - one of the most useful videos on serving I’ve seen.

Hey I’ve tried many different techniques over the years but this one stuck with me as most effective. I used to serve “normal” with the arm up.
Thx a lot,
