    Great video, you answered several questions I had!
    Your volume is kind of low relative to other vids on YT.
    You're the first person that has shown the official case and cooler in much detail, thank you!

    I've never liked the Raspberryp official plastic case. I think it's not the good one for heat cooling.

      Yes, I also think it is better to wait for custom cases. But that is the problem when you buy on day one.

    I will receive my pi5 this week but I havent ordered the active cooling.. Just the case as of now.
    I would be very interested in a comparison of case fan vs active cooling fan for temps/OC as well as noise.
    Also the heatsink seems ridiculously tiny, do you think bigger ones will eventually come out? If so, do you recommend waiting and keep using the case without active cooling or just order the active cooler right away.
    Thanks

    • @LivingLinux
      @LivingLinux  9 месяцев назад

      I think the active cooler is noisy. I'd recommend to use the fan in the case and see if you can run it without attaching the heat sink. But I don't recommend overclocking, until you have found a better cooling solution. I'm sure there will come plenty of custom cooling solutions for the Pi 5.

    That case with its top must be used with its original fan, the air going out through the bottom of the case, explaning why the rubber feet and openings. If you strangely use together that case and the active cooler, don't put the top of the case because with it the air enter and goes out by the same openings, that cannot works, furthermore the radiator is enclosed and stay in the hot air making it useless. This is why the fan makes a lot of sound : it is at max speed without result, it is almost like the case has no openings. With the active cooler better use the pibow box.

    • @brunopages5105
      @brunopages5105 7 месяцев назад

      also, do not force to assemble that case, one side must be inserted before the other each time, just exchange the order of the sides you enter when you cannot, and don't try to enter both sides at the same time

    • @LivingLinux
      @LivingLinux  7 месяцев назад +1

      The top of the case still lets air through. Otherwise the original case fan would have a problem too. The fan was running at max speed, because the current Ubuntu image doesn't do temperature control. You can fix this with a script. ruclips.net/video/M--nU_Zg-ZQ/видео.html

      @@LivingLinux In the official case, when the top is in place, the ventilator is the alone opening on the top, thanks to the transparent section and the also part of the top closing the opening to access the GPIO pins => when the top is in place and the fan is running, the air enters through the fan and the top, without being able to go out around the fan to reach back the top and then nor to go out from it, the air can only go out from the bottom of the case. So fresh air enters from the top, and hot air goes out from the bottom, no possible mix => that works. But when the active cooler is in the case, of course without the original fan and transparent section, all is open around the fan, rather than to have a part upper the fan separated with the part under the fan => it is the same air that is sucked in and exhaled by the fan => only a small part of the hot air goes out of the case to be replaced by fresh air => that cannot works well. Notice the heatsink is also inside the same section containing hot air, it is quite useless. Opening the top is the only solution for the fan to draw in fresh air, rather than the air it has just expelled, and for the heatsink to hope to get fresh air too. But in fact the active cooler must be used without a case to be fully efficient, or in the pibow which has no top upper the fan nor around the heatsink

  • @Volker-Dirr
    @Volker-Dirr 9 месяцев назад +3

    I read that the fan is always running full speed at the moment if you use Ubuntu. Only on RaspionOS it can run slower at the moment.
    I wonder that your screen has a blue line on the left if you turn it on. I never saw something like that if i use digital video signals like DVI or HDMI. Looks strangely like with an old analog VGA signal.
    If you have time, maybe test if it make sense to replace the cooler. So far i used my pi 4 many times full cpu load, but no heat sink at all and just a small fan with 3.3V only. Of course that is not the "best" way to reduce the temperature of the CPU, but also cools the other components at the same time and it is still far away from the highest allowed CPU temperature. So i think i will use that cooling variant also on the Pi 5, if it is still maybe 10°C below the max allowed temperature under full CPU load. Maybe you can test it already, since i didn't got a pi so far :-(

    • @LivingLinux
      @LivingLinux  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, with RPi OS the fan is temperature controlled.
      I think they say that without overclocking, you can use just the small heat sink and small fan in the case.
      The blue noise on the screen is probably caused by the strange resolution of my Lenovo Yoga Tab 13 with HDMI input. I also tested with a Radxa Rock 5A and that displays without distortion. The resolution is 2160*1350 (instead of 1920*1080).

    • @Volker-Dirr

      ah... ok. Sounds logical. I am a guy that don't like/use overclocking. I always keep it default. In fact if have enough time to use other settings, then i prefer in fact undervolting, but not overclocking.

      @@LivingLinux yes, I am sure someone will release an app for Ubuntu to take control of it. The big difference between the Pi 4 and 5, with respect to cooling, is a fan header. I don't believe the Pi 4 has one. Not only did they add a fan header with the Pi 5 but it is PWM so it can be modulated to slow it down. It's really just a matter of software to get that PWM control function working on other Pi OSes.

    • @LivingLinux
      @LivingLinux  9 месяцев назад +2

      The fan is enclosed, so that would mean I have to screw it out of the enclosure. I think there is enough room, to put the fan on top of the heat sink. Now I think it is blowing air sideways.

    Do you know if the Raspberry Pi 5 (overlocked CPU 3GHZ/ GPU 1GHZ) can run RUclips at full HD playback smooth as well as Twitch full HD playback? I might want to buy one but I'm afraid the Pi 5 is not capable of video playback/streams.

I guess they can also recoup the investment from ways other than just the Raspberry Pi 5 sales since the RP1 (or maybe some parts of it) can be used in other product. Perhaps that's why they focus for the 4GB/8GB variants first because of the higher margin. in the end, like you said, they lost focus on the affordability part.
