      I will master. Am just a beginner. Can i ask you something about rackets.? What string pattern is best, the the usual square or the V-shaped stinging pattern?

    • @BetterSquash
      @BetterSquash  2 года назад +1

      If you are just beginning, don't worry about stringing patterns. Those things are not important until much, much later. Just find a medium weight racket with an even balance and play with that for about a year. After that you can begin to think about different weights and balances, strings etc.

    How is the handicap in a senior squash tournament. In which different categories play?

    • @BetterSquash
      @BetterSquash  2 года назад

      I'm sorry I don't understand your questions. Some senior tournaments play up to nine points instead of eleven.

    Where sould we place the A4 target for the serve drill?

    • @BetterSquash
      @BetterSquash  Год назад

      I show the position at 8:06 in the video. To be honest, as long as you place it high on the side wall, somewhere behind the service box, that's fine.

    Why no longer than three minutes? Thank you

    • @BetterSquash
      @BetterSquash  3 года назад +1

      Two main reasons:
      1. Solo practice should NEVER be boring. If you ever get bored, that feeling my prevent you from doing it in the future. Better to do something for a shorter time and enjoy it than making it last too long and not enjoying it. See my note below for some more details.
      2. To learn a new skill, it's better to keep the practice time short and repeat it many times. Research has also shown that sleep between practice helps players retain those new skills. I prefer my pupils to repeat sets and mega-sets than do one thing for too long. It's also been shown that if you practice for too long on one thing, the quality of your performance goes down and all you will be doing is reinforcing poor quality and technique. 3 minutes is not a scientifically proven time, but I prefer to err on the side of caution than not.
      NOTE: there was this wonderful piece of research that studied medical procedures. In all cases the procedure was either uncomfortable or painful. if the process was stopped immediately after the procedure, people remembered the pain more vividly. If the medical staff finished the procedure but kept the patient there and waited 5 to 10 minutes and then said the procedure was over, patients reported less pain and more likelihood to repeat the procedure. I can't remember where I read it.
      Also, I am not using this one piece of research as the basis for my 3 minutes. It's just my experience that many players will find any reason (excuse!) to not do solo practice.

    I like your videos but wish you would have taken that silly mask off

    • @BetterSquash
      @BetterSquash  Год назад +1

      The mask was required to use the facility where I recorded the video.

    Wearing a mask while SOLO training?

    • @BetterSquash
      @BetterSquash  2 года назад

      At the sports centre where I record, everybody was required to wear a mask at all times, except in the shower and swimming pool.

    Wearing a mask is simply ridiculous I don’t want to watch video with a coach wearing a mask !

    I have lost all respect for you I had to take a second look. You hold a world record. I thought you were better than this 🌧️ lose the mask

      I really don't understand the hate I'm getting for this thumbnail/video. Where I live, The Basque Country, Spain, there was/is a mandate to use a mask at all times indoors - even in the gym (although this may have changed). I am just following the rules. I suppose I could have taken the image without a mask, but it is not that important.
      The mask has no bearing on the sound quality because all court views have over-dubbing anyway.
