What I love about the pale is that it seems to me to be implied (via conversation with the insulindian phasmid) that it is created by the discarded thoughts of humans. Therefore, every time you discard a thought in game you are contributing to the growth of the pale, and even the development of the 2 cm hole in the world.
One thing that is not exactly the secret, but a peculiar detail that I really want to share: Have you ever noticed the manner of speaking that Joyce uses? It is so... unique and interesting, like "I am the most vile creature of all, an ultra", ect Might be bacause she travels through the Pale a lot and is the only character we meet in game who has recieved the special training for it She says it herself - that those who are trained to traverse through the Pale between Isolas are trained to treat it like the poetry to keep themselves sane, unlike the Pale Driver, which can explain the way Joyce speak The next part is less of a detail even and more of a speculation, but her journeys through pale can also explain why she knows so much about the world and especially about how the Insulindia was discovered - she might have literally experienced the memories of those who had done it, whilst in the Pale
I always got the impression she was supposed to sound like a classy, old timey with a Transatlantic accent. Sort of Katharine Hepburn by way of Kate Mulgrew as Captain Janeway
The secret with discovering Lely's backstory goes even further than this. Not many people find it but if you find out this info and only after that visit the Sunday Friend (which means exploring the whole smoker on the balcony thing later than usual and speedrunning the corpse study), then, upon having Reaction Speed high enough (4 or 6, I think?), you can unlock a whole new dialogue branch with him after asking about Oranje. And... oh boy, I won't tell you too much but in that dialogue, Sunday Friend reveals that he's an even bigger disgusting hypocritical piece of s--t than we already believed him to be... Also, about Pale. SPOILER WARNING In the Moralintern quest, when trying to contact ship Archer, you can hear Kim talking on the radio, and later, it turns out to be his phrases from the future (from the end of the game) which means that Pale can literally twist time...
SPOILER If after the tribunal you take Cuno instead of Kim with you, AFTER you had this during the moralintern quest, Inland Empire will also point out that "N-n-n-no. This isn't right..."
I had no idea about the Sunday friend piece, I’ve always been dying to know if there’s more with that guy so I’m glad you’ve shared this! I did know about Kim and now I’m annoyed I didn’t include it 😂 However I think the pale needs to have its own thing to really cover it properly, I think without realising I was actively trying not to make this all about the pale and missed some stuff which was in context. Thank you for the great comment!
I can't find any info on what Sunday Friend says about Oranje, other than just it's an exemplary moralist nation, etc. I'd love to know the full dialogue tbh.
8:36 Btw the text from the horseback antenna is german and says : "Marianne has told me that Oskar hasn't been the same since he came back on an aircraft" (Also -- Great video!)
Surprised you haven't covered the dialogue line that triggers during the dance sequence at the church - from watching many people's playthroughs it becomes clear that while getting to the convo with Revachol is easy and almost everyone does, virtually none of those people have the requisite Perception (I think) required to trigger the extra line revealing what had Revachol asking for your help. I almost want to think that the Col Do Ma Ma Daqua thought, with its hyper-specific +3 Perception (Hearing) bonus, was made JUST to help you get this one line of dialogue, since I'm pretty sure it's about catching a note of fear in her speech patterns.
@@The41stPrecinct haha cool man, no worries, that was a big one to me since it seems almost nobody hits it, but I dig your series and I know you'll get there. keep it up!
perception (or reaction speed as CallOfCutie says) is not the only skill that triggers it. her fear is detected also by half light and rhetoric, so devs really wanted to reward players who specialised in various specific skills, and wanted them to see the conversation through (i believe each of these passive checks is legendary)
Damn I´ve never gotten la revacholiere to talk to me through the intercom. It always just ends after the narrator tells you that you hear her voice. 6 times I´ve done it and thought it was an oversight.
Personally I feel like Harry doing the Moralintern quest all the way up to (***MORALINTERN SPOILERS***) calling down the Aerostat and then being unable to go with them because he doesn't want to abandon Kim is the Canon route. In my opinion Harry, much like Kim, makes the most sense as a left-leaning moralist (Kim is basically the same- he believes in the RCM and Dolores Dei and Moralism and is extremely professional, but there are numerous hints he also thinks DD was a tyrant, that Moralism should be tempered by a decent dose of leftism, etc). It also jives well with the Shivers/Esprit de Corps ending where Ptolemy says Harry would side with the RCM uprising and side with the city- it's implied that's a bit of a populist resurgence going back to the communard roots predating the RCM).
@@The41stPrecinct I kind of interpret it as, considering Klassje's apprehension of the Moralintern (though for seemingly very different reasons), the Moralintern 'disappeared' Harry for knowing too much about the Pale. Considering the overwhelming power the MI has over the world, it wouldn't shock me if they used some of that power to easily learn all they can about the Pale. (note: i know nothing of the book)

@@jiminlee5944 The recording is from a long since dead company and there are a multitude of indications it has been distorted by the pale - I haven't been duped, you just haven't opened your mind enough

Bruh I swear, by the end of my first playthrough of DE, I was getting scooped up in a warship
I got the armor one on my first playthrough with alice
Nice 👍
We are back
We are in fact, so back
what's the song going on in the background??? sounds so nice!!
It’s a weird unused Sea Power ambient track which is tucked away in the game files 🙂
the song is "Alone Piano" by Sea Power. The full song is on youtube
Awesome! 😎
cheers
what does that coalition ending means?
Well….Harry goes off to a new life with the moralintern basically, but it’s never revealed what exactly that means
