Probably canned clams. Not to say they wouldn’t reuse from when they last opened a can (2 weeks ago)

The food industry is one of the toughest, between the tight margins, rising costs , and some patrons with unrealistic expectations! I just hope the establishments such as this one can use the “lift” that you give and give a better experience overall to the new patrons you send their way! That detour was a blessing in disguise. I know you were probably more prepared to come across that manager from hell and be served up bad pizza with even worse service but as proof that there is justice and karma in this world, the guy got what was coming to him and his business slammed straight into a wall. All in all you pretty much got a break going to a more competent place despite it's rating, is not as bad as it sounds.

Haha I knew exactly where you were from the thumbnail. I lived right across the street from Sisson Ave on Sherman street. Sisson is still one of the best options in the area.
Opinion
I've been to ABC before because my work ordered pizzas from there. It certainly wasn't my choice and I didn't like the lack of parking, but tbh it wasn't bad when I tried it. They were very friendly. They definitely deserve a higher rating. The karma bus hit that other spot.
I love the Pizza Belt Theory (one of the versions, at least). Emanating outward from NYC (basically from southern NJ/East PA to just over the MA border and most of RI) you can scale how good a chance you have at having good pizza. CT is the only state full withing the belt which is where you have a greater than 50% chance, though in CT it's more like 60-70% chance, of a good to great pizza at a random spot. Outside the belt? Under 50% chance it's not that good. Those clams? Most certainly came in a bucket. Sus.

Wish we had Pineapple Crush in Canada. I have found the odd restaurant and convenience stores that have it, but they have to order it from the US. We do have Pineapple Fanta which is ok, but Crush is better.

Daym, have you ever tried First & Last Tavern pizza in Hartford? It used to be one of my fams favorite spots but we have since moved. It has a great atmosphere and their fried eggplant pizza with ricotta was the best!
some places they have struggle street they get what they can afford to. But even with low ball ingredients if done right can go from two star ⭐️ solid three and half. Chefs can offer if you do this use this less of one ingredient more of another. Maybe your pie 🥧 needed little bit longer in a hotter oven less cook time crustier smidge

I had ABC Pizza often in the 1990s and early 2000s and I really liked it (and stopped only because I moved away). Good Greek salads too. Glad they're still going strong, I should visit soon

You really should google map that "closed" pizza place. It's not those empty stores at all but rather the same pizza shop that you saw next to it. Looking back though time at the google maps, that pizza shop went though a couple name changes and at least one new owner but the phone number in front is always the same. If anything, the people that ran the one with the bad reviews are probably long gone as the newer reviews are showing 3 stars.

Man being a pizza place in Connecticut has to be difficult. If Pepe’s or any of the other top 4 New Haven places were my local joint, I couldn’t see myself ever getting anything else.
They have lines, and just about every town has something that is quite good so no point traveling to New Haven.

I have a recommendation. It's not a restaurant, but a pie shop. If you're in the northern Indiana area anytime between memorial day and labor day you should try Dan's Pies.

If you’re going to compare Greek clam pizza to Pepe’s clam pizza it’s like night and day.The west end that closed in Hartford ,has nothing to do with the Bristol location ,completely different owners by the way ,and it’s still open and been there for like 50 years

Who goes to rate a pizza restaurants and requests clams on their pizza? If you want to truly know how a restaurant makes their pizza, you buy a plain cheese, or at the most pepperoni. But adding ridiculous toppings gives you no sense of the actual taste of their pizza.
Kinda wondered if that pizza place with the shitty manager wasn't closed considering that those reviews were 4-5 years old.

Clam??? I bet it's so rarely ordered that they don't prioritize clams. My biggest thing is the cheese quality. If it's low moisture mozzarella then it's not even on my scale.

So long as a pizza has a solid, crisp crust, and ingredients that are strong, robust, and savory, then I'm okay with that. LOL wild that the other place was run down to the ground.
Probably canned clams. Not that canned clams are the worst (they're passable) but I wouldn't expect a lower volume pizza place like that to have a dedicated supplier of fresh clams when it's likely being ordered at most once every couple of days.

I have several Italian pizza restaurants in my family. Typically when you get a zza with clams, those baby clams do come in a can . Ain't nobody got time to shuck baby clams lol . They all use the best cheese and ingredients , make dough fresh daily . Custom pizza sauce and Italian pizza is cooked on brick or wood fired or cornmeal or screens . Pans aren't Typically used like Greek style pizza.

Not the cleanest ..that ceiling alone would make me sail right out of me if the floor matched 🤔 That's a greek pizza 🍕 canned clams ..it looks good ...When you go into a pizza place and they sell Gyros and have Feta cheese you know its greek . Sometimes I want a Italian More of a bread crust & Sometimes a good greese cruncy pizza which is greek .
