    awesome video bro, i started with the scotts hand whiz and eventually upgraded to the Lesco because thats what all the youtubers were using... long behold it was wayyyy to big for my lawn and i kept throwing fertilizer on the sidewalk and street.
    Fast forward 3 years later, i sold the lesco and im back to using the trusty ol scotts hand spreader 😂

    It’s good to see you back man! Wow this video hit on a perfect day for me. I have been humming and hawing all winter about what fertilizer I’m gonna go with this season. I’m helping my dad out too so he’s helping with costs so he told just get what’s the best. But I hummed and hawed even more because I don’t want to waste my dad’s money. Even if he tells me too (we aren’t rich lol). So I waited. And waited. And had finally settled on something generic which was cheaper but I still couldn’t pull the trigger. And today it happened. In my local HD, 15lb bags of ammonium sulfate for $2.80 each. I have some leftover stuff here and there from last season to get my P and K but heck I’m gonna give it a go this season learn how to use AMS safely and by way of save a TON of my dad’s money. And my family’s money. And still give my lawn SOMETHING. I totally thought of you and this channel and was gonna tell you at some point but this video was just too damn on point to not. Thanks for all the advice and I can’t wait to “get the job done.”

    Seeing your videos popping up is getting me more excited to get back in the yard. This season even more budget minded than last. I have that spreader and it is a trooper. It can be annoying sometimes not spreading as pretty as others but it gets it done. The only thing I wish I didn't cut corners on is some mowers and the weed eater. I wish I could have gone straight to the fiskar manual reel mower instead of some other less expensive ones. I wish I would have started with the ego string trimmer and blower I now have. But I needed to know if I even liked yard work when i got some cheaper items. Lessons learned and loving the task is always great.

      Awesome. Glad to hear. I like your thought process! I’ve gone through the same things. DAM that Lesco spreader is $355 now 😳 When i bought mine years ago it was $160 and that was a hard pill to swallow. With 2 acres you definitely need a really good spreader. Two maybe three applications a year BUT since the price of my Lesco fertilizer has increased some years ago my spreader just hangs on the wall.

      @@BudgetLawns prices keep going up and corporate profits are SKYROCKETING. Not too hard to see what's going on. Big business owners take advantage of the little guy and DEM presidents in office to jack up prices and blame "inflation" or "covid" or "supply chain issues" when we all know it's entirely bullshit. But to be fair those DEM administrations don't do NEARLY enough to keep this from happening, or when companies are caught doing it, it's cheaper for the companies to admit it, pay out a lawsuit and keep jacking up prices for record profits, rinse and repeat.

    I bought one of these 7 years ago. I had stripes on my lawn every time I put down fertilizer. The fertilizer gets stuck inside the wheels and will cause green stripes every single time. It works fine other than that. I bought a Chapin spreader because it had good reviews and now my lawn looks great after every 21-0-0 application. I have 11,000 sq.ft. to cover and the Chapin is superior over the Scotts. I`m glad you like yours but watch out for the fertilizer building up on the inside of the wheels and making a checkerboard out of you lawn.

      Typical issues with these is the bail wire gets loose or breaks, or the agitating mechanism rusts out/freezes up and the door won't slide open properly to deliver product. Easy fixes even for non-handypeople types, but most just throw them to the edge of the curb and buy another one instead of fixing them.

    I still have one and need to get rid of it. Every time I spread product, I get stripes! No matter what I do, going in multiple directions, spreading a little closer than normal, I always get stripes. Do you have any suggestions before I throw this out?

    • @BudgetLawns
      @BudgetLawns  8 месяцев назад

      I always barely, and I mean barely, open the hopper to just let a little out and ensure I evenly spread it. Even if it take 3 or 4 passes. On 4400 sqft that doesn’t take long at all. Hope this helps. Thanks so much for watching and the question.

    • @aroundthehousewithpat31
      @aroundthehousewithpat31 8 месяцев назад +2

      That has always been a problem with the Scott’s rotary spreader. The disk that throws the fertilizer doesn’t catch all the fertilizer when it drops from the hopper. You need to cut back on the setting and go over the lawn a few times on a lower setting moving in different directions to compensate for that problem. You will still get the stripes but they won’t stand out as much. It’s definitely frustrating but that’s the difference between a cheap spreader and a more expensive one. I have been using the Scott’s spreader myself for years and have just learned to compensate for that problem plus I get two to three times more exercise when fertilizing. Lol

    The only issue is I get stripes with this spreader. Im gonna try to block off the wheels with cardboard and use it at the tiniest opening possible when fertilizing and attempt to make it work.. But this might literally be one of those times where spending even just a little bit more for a spreader with solid wheels might be smarter. I actually wish I would have tried a hand spreader over this due to the stripes. Oh well, I got it dirt cheap, but still have regrets... Gonna try better to work around it's only limitation but I would advise others to skip this particular model and avoid the headaches of striping.

    The Scott's edge gaurd is extremely inaccurate. I understand not wanting to overspend but if you are in the position where spending 400 is no problem, why would u spend 50 and get junk? It's not only about lawn care but like for example those Scott's mini edge guards can't spread salt in winter. If you do use it for that the salt will corrode the black metal frame. If the spreader doesn't have stainless steel frame it's literally junk. Buy it once and buy it for life. One thing you're not taking into consideration is that 400 dollar lesco spreader you showed is currently going for 600, and it used to go for 200. Inflation isn't a joke and sometimes it's better to bite the bullet and buy it once rather than buy over inflated, under built, low quality control plastic thats gonna end up in a landfill
    Edit: I'm actually of the mindset that it should be illegal to sell that spreader. And to charge what they charge for it. It doesn't even cost them 5 dollars to make

      @@jaycee1373 I think it's doable if you a level yard, never get snow meaning u won't spread salt, and your property is small. It's not a matter of doing me and you doing you lol, it's a matter of fact. This thing is for the California front yard on a small 7000 Sq ft yard. I have a bit under an acre of land. And I have a huge circular driveway that gets killed with snow in winter. I had this before, then I had the bigger Scott's, then I had some garbage other brand, then I got a Chapin a frame made of stainless steel. This is a selfish video. The dislike for Scott's Mini and DLX comes from their design flaws, which beginners overlook. Scotts' Mini and DLX causes stripes and burns in lawn from fertilizer being thrown into their wheels as the rotator sits below the wheel height. Bad design, a design which Scotts refuses to fix for over two decades. Of course, if you complain, Scott's is ready to refund your money rather than fix the design. No one likes wasting stuff, but if you purchase a product, it should work as intended.

      Selfish is a strange way to characterize the video. It worked as intended for me so I don’t know what else to tell ya. Should I fabricate an experience that didn’t happen but aligns more with yours? Will that make you feel better? The beauty of RUclips is you can also make a video that shares your experience that was obviously different than mine. But I digress. Thanks for watching.

      What I am saying is that Mini or DLX is the only spreader 99% needs... IF they didn't have the design flaw. I used Mini for 10 years without noticing the issue. And still use DLX because there is no alternative. The Elite is just too big. I spent the whole night searching for alternatives for the new season, and might buy the drop spreader by Scotts.

    This spreader is a POS, it throws the fertilizer into the wheels and it will leave stripes in your yard no matter what u do, buy one that has a spinning broadcaster that is higher than the wheels.

      Sounds like you had a different experience than I did. Thanks for watching.

      @@BudgetLawns ruclips.net/video/v3krZyIATKw/видео.htmlsi=4M8rEEOWpkdxEYUf ..... Alot of people r noticing it aswell, theres also some videos where they do a driveway test and u can see the lines of fertilizer left behind

      Sure, there are people on both sides. I never said there's not. I think that's the case with anything in life. I made a video about my experience. Those that had a different experience can make videos too. Would you rather me lie to make the people with bad experiences feel better?

      @@BudgetLawns oh no im sorry you're exactly right... U had a great video and i wish my product experience was better, i should have clarified that.
      Some people aren't having any issues with this product. I think it comes to how fast u can move the spreader spins faster getting product to fling over the wheels, for those having issues theres a 3D printer spacer/drive shave extension fix. I let the stripes in my lawn get the better of me.

      Clearly you missed the point and were too worried about your comment instead of listening. You also wasted your time with this comment. 🤷‍♂️ Thanks for watching tho.

    1000 % agree with all you said. I still use mine as well as my hand held and they work just fine. I have climbed out of the rabbit hole and filled in that hole never to return. I will be under budget for now on and my lawn will still be top notch. 👍🏻💚🦸🏻‍♂
