      Vinnie Paul is amazing, but saying he is never out of time is too much. There are some little oofs even in this video. Perhaps not out of time per se, but some awkward bassdrum action etc. Doesn't matter, but he's definetily no robot drummer. Which is a good thing :d.

      @@leeroyjplaisance3921 I hear some stuttering in that double kick+crash fill at some parts. Not out of time really, but just uneven volume of hits etc. Not that it makes any difference, since it's so negligible. I just instantly heard it, & remember this video for that reason actually. 0:34 he rushes with the hi-hat for a second, but fixes it right away. My point is, there really are drummers out there, who play like robots, & seemingly never make mistakes(everyone makes them at times of course). There's nothing robotic about Vinnie Paul for me. Just sounds great, & plays with good volume.

      That's a technique I use regularly learned from watching Vinnie. A little awkward at first as it felt uncomfortable turning my heel out but once I got used to it what a difference. Works great as I use 2 bass drums but not effective with a single bass drum with double pedal. The left beater resting against the head dampens the impact from the right beater a little too much.

    One of the things I never see anyone talk about is that whenever he's doing straight 8ths or 16ths, he leads with his left foot. He said in an interview that he got it from starting off with one kick drum and always keeping the left foot keeping time in quarters or eights with the hi-hat pedal. So when he finally got a second kick drum, it just felt more natural to keep things going that way. You can see it starting at 2:03, he's leading with the left foot and the last note of the phrase, on the one, is a left foot kick. Super cool to see in action!

      I'm not a metal drummer, but have had reasons to learn double pedal and have it as another string to my bow. I was in GNRs tributes for a long time and noticed that Matt Sorum did the same. In my non-advanced double kick playing, I've learnt a bit of it and can feel how, depending on the tempo and beat, it can "knit" things together better than leading with your right foot.

    • @JalenRawley
      @JalenRawley Год назад +3

      @@drumtracksdirect It really made a ton of sense to me to lead with the left foot in certain situations because of really working on keeping time with the left foot hi-hat.
      I'm not a drummer really, I'm a bass player and guitarist that picked up drums along the way, but I've always been a massive fun of drumming. It was Mark Zonder of Fates Warning that really made me want to get that left foot hi-hat stuff going. I really never aspired to play much double bass, especially straight 16th style stuff, I was more into interesting patterns with it, but as soon as I read that about Vinnie Paul, I really worked on leading 16ths with the left foot and it's fun!
      Never knew Matt Sorum did it too!

      +DrumDude007 been a drummer for 20 years. This isn't a 'double-bass heavy' song, he is only using it for bit parts, small fills and accenting. You do realize what you are hearing is through an ambient microphone , not the sound board, right? The transience isn't really the same, drums never sound as clean as they would through a mixing board after compression and EQ are applied.

      AlexSufferAD dude had the tightest groove. Music is sound and silence, in proper proportion. Vinnie and Dime both understood that intrinsically, and though both were consummate professionals, they knew that they were most effective when they were just doing their job and letting others speak when it was their turn. Dime knew how to fill a space like no one since Rhoads, and Vinnie knew how to open up so much space for other sounds to come through. Completely given to the song. Unselfish. Humble. Serving the song. That’s what made them both great musicians, better than most in their genre.

    I'm so grateful I got to see Vinnie Paul in concert at least 2x in my lifetime, once with Pantera in 1997, and then in 2007 with Hellyeah in my hometown El Paso, Texas. I wished I could have met him in person, because he literally is the biggest drumming influence I have ever had; just to tell him what a difference he made in my musical outlook and approach. He is truly one of the best rock/heavy metal drummers in my eyes. R.I.P.

      It definitely makes my heart heavy. If he wasn't so fucking brutal id probably be sobbing. Two drummers that make me rock out and actually say to the screen "fuckin get it!!!!"
      1. Bonham 2. Vince
      I moved to the city they still lived in right before Far Beyond Driven came out.Age 15 my first concert. They'd come through the drive thru where i worked. He was brutal all the time.we were too young to party with them.Eventually got autographs and run ins (denied entrance to alot of their house parties😁). The Guitar Show in Dallas; the strip club...Pantera will always be the most brutal band of all time.They feel like family or my best bros from high school and the only thing about Texas ill claim

    I can't say I'm a big Pantera fan. Not exactly what I listen to. I've heard much heavier and faster but I can honestly say no one ever hits harder than these guys. The clarity of their aggression cuts through like no one has been able to do before. And that can't be contrived or planned on. It's just comes straight at you. A very gifted group indeed. RIP.

    Him and Dave lombardo are responsible for the sound of modern metal drummers.
