We used to love Kojak in the 70s when we were kids. My nine year old cousin shaved his head because he admired Kojak. Man oh man did his mom freak out! Who loves you baby!
My dad and him were best friends. Early 80's he would come hang out at the Dunes and my mom, dad, and him would play poker...my dad worked there until they closed. Telly actually introduced himself to me one night when I was there, had to be 7th grade, nighttime....he sat at an empty table across from where I sat, just staring at me.. my dad walked up to me and Telly said "Good looking daughter you got there, Joe". OMG! KOJAK thought I was good looking! My heart jumped out of my chest! He was a great guy, friend, actor, everything... we miss him every day. Dad is up at the BIG POKER ROOM in the sky playing with him again. WHO LOVES ❤️ YA BABY! Just watched KOJAK Season 1 Episode 1 last night....George was in it and HARVEY KEITEL!!
I loved his version of this song. I actually bought that record all those long 40 years ago. Listening now makes me sad and long for an era when I still had my parents, brother, aunts and uncles and not least friends, who are no longer alive.
To me it’s pure nostalgia. My mother had a little magnetophone, she recorded this song with a mic, I really think I listened to it for a thousand times. So glad I found it here.
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams...................
What an absolute classic !!! It's so cheesy that it's brilliant. And, what an awesome voice he had too. This version reflected the sign of the times for 1975. The end of the influence from the 1960s and the hippy era when chart music had all different styles of music and when people were very naive but happy. An era that will never ever be repeated or forgotten.
For my dad Graham.you weren't very nice to me growing up it hurt me alot but towards the end of your life you tried hard to make it better we talked alot and shared some special moments .you suggested a couple of songs for your funeral.you sang this as I sat by your bed so I chose it for your service.i do miss you dad Graham xx
Very touching story. Thank you for this. May rest in peace and be remembered by the living forever. Love and prayers from Telly’s original homeland. 🇬🇷🇺🇸🇬🇷🇺🇸
Telly Savages really knew how to touch a person's soul, with this song spoken in his warm rich voice he melted my soul and still does today when I listen to these beautiful words.. REST IN ETERNAL PEACE TELLY SAVALAS... THE WORLD IS A BETTER PLACE FOR HAVING YOU IN IT.... YOU ARE SADLY MISSED, REMEMBERED AND LOVED STILL.
I heard this many years ago and loved it. Ive told people over the years about this rendition and people didnt believe me. Thankyou so much for posting this so its not lost forever.
Attitudes were so different then. This version would never make number one today sadly as tastes have changed. I remember this song in 1975, I was there, it was good in it's time, and good now from a nostalgic point of view.
Speechless! Totally Speechless! He recorded a beautiful song with more than beautiful words and made it his own! How can this possibly be fast approaching fifty years ago?
I made a top 40 list every week in the seventees. And halfway I had this song as my number one. The Bread original was great, but this version grabbed me.
Right, this is from the former German music chart programme "Disco", it was broadcasted weekly during the Seventies.Every song came with an address blended in where fans could write to and order an autograph for free. The German artists often had their own private (unthinkable nowadays) addresses shown while mail for international star usually went to some agent from the record company. This makes me feel melancholy, playing Kojak he became a cultural icon, Telly had such screen presence!
Amazing. Thanks for that info. I was most intrigued by the video format and the german text and numbers set the hook. I just had to know if this was a real thing or some hipster nonsense. I will have to look for more of this.
Soft...slow-movingsongs...born in the 70s. Haven't heard this for the longest time. Just the other day was played on FM transmitter . Thank you to the late Mr Savalas for that melancholy but powerful rendition. May you RIP 🕊️🙏
As odd as this may sound. I remember listening to this when I was very young and knowing this was one of my mums favourite songs I thought to myself this would remind me of her when I'm older and she's not around. How true that turned out to be
This rendition of "If", has always had an oddly narcotic yet pleasant effect on me. Bread’s closing vision of cosmic apocalypse becomes frankly sinister in Telly’s hands. “And when the world was through…MMMMMMM", as Telly becomes the angel of doom.
Abe Garfield I know that he had started suffering from male pattern baldness early on, but he decided not to delay the inevitable so when he had a chance to shave it for a film he took it...and adopted the look for life!
I heard this song this evening on the car radio in Ireland... I couldn't wait to get home and find it on RUclips... He sounds like Leonard Cohen... 👍 Fantastic I think.

Give Telly Savalas the m-TV music award 2024!
Real men don't just sing songs, they smoke them.
My family and I met Telly Savalas by the pool at a hotel in Vegas back in the late 70’s. Nice guy. He was kind enough to take a picture with my mom.
This is the most outragous song ever. It pure 70s brilliance.
We used to love Kojak in the 70s when we were kids. My nine year old cousin shaved his head because he admired Kojak. Man oh man did his mom freak out! Who loves you baby!

+Dave Kelly Dave I'm in the same position. I seem to recall another version of this song with a montage but can't find it here.
There was a different (earlier) version on the album 'Telly'
This is really a joke version of the beautiful song originally written and performed by David Gates from the band Bread. Listen to the real version.
