Hubby and I are going on our 2nd Viking cruise. Our first was an expedition ship to Antarctica. Oh my! Penguins, humpback whales, seals and a 6 person submarine. We loved it. Next we’re going to Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania. We are so excited and can’t wait. Viking can’t be beat.
Very true, Sue and I hope you have a wonderful journey. On Hurtigruten MS Spitsbergen right now in Cape Verde Islands. But unless you sail on H’s newest ships, there is no comparison with Regent, Ponant, Seabourn or Viking. Happy holidays and thanks for your time to view and comment,. 😍
LOVE the closeups of the food and your descriptions, also the closeups of the wine bottles. I do alternate day fasting, so wow! That food looks yummy and these videos are fun to watch on my fast days.

Now that is what I call an epic video! Everything looked amazing and I would go on a cruise just to gorge on it all! I used to always like Carbonara sauses, but I round them sickly because of the cream. So I made one without all the cream, just the bacon and eggs with a tiny smidgen of cream to loosen the mixture. It was so delicious! All the flavour, far less calories and no illness afterwards! Thank you for the video!
I’m full of Julie Child quotes today, “If you don’t like butter, use cream.” 😂 Obviously you chose the other direction which I understand 😂 Anything with Pesto or Alfredo are my go-tos 🥰

As you know, James, my vids are always after-the-fact (takes time to edit at home) and today is last day of another trip (cruise and 9 days in Corvara, Italy). Point? So many good things to eat. How in the world did you make a decision. The seafood buffet would have been my favorite, although the steak looked pretty good too. And I just love chick peas so that chickpea salad looked so very good to me.
The chickpea salad has appeared on every Viking (so far) and its the fig in it that puts it above and beyond. It is very difficult to choose and in Hindsight, ordering mains on Hurtigruten is possibly the way to go with only 2 to choose from. This is why I usually order in multiples on Viking because everything tastes to delicious. Best to you, Chip. Sheila 😍
Food looks out of this world. I haven’t had a gourmet meal on my last few cruises as I was alone and it’s not much fun dining alone.
I settled for the buffet in one of the café’s onboard my last 2 Viking Line cruises. Not bad though , they had a salad buffet with traditional local beetroot salad on offer. A choice of white fish , schnitzels, and meatballs with mash, chips or boiled potatoes.
They weigh your plate at the counter and you pay by weight. They also had sandwiches and freshly baked cakes on offer.
It was only a cafe but I certainly ate like a king on those 2 nights.
But you certainly can’t beat silver service on a ship, oh well next time!
I am so sick of gourmet by the time a cruise ends Schnitzel, Meatballs sounds pretty good to me. Weighing your plate at the counter 😂 is something I’ve never experienced! Ballpark, what does an average plate weigh (I assume with mains only?) and how much would it cost? So interesting, Jonathan. Best to you, Sheila 🥰
@@SheilaSimkin it is bizarre I know but a heavily packed plate weighs about €13, I must admit i’m very greedy. It’s still cheaper than paying the €30 for the Smorgasbord which you always stuff yourself silly at and you always overeat the salmon. 🤭
@@MultiJono81 I don’t think that’s pricey at all! Just curious how much a plate would weigh. Sure you can tell by the food vids that Steve and I are very hefty eaters! 😂

So true, Dave! At home I eat yogurt/fruit/muesli for breakfast and nothing until dinner. But even when I walk thru World Cafe, just intending to video, there is always something I have to taste. Yum. Best to you, Sheila 🥰
One question. Is the food actually any good? We did a Viking European river cruise in October, the mains were substandard, breakfast was ok, desserts were ok. Service very average. The ship and excursions were very good. Why I ask is that we a considering an ocean cruise but concerned about the standard of the food. I don’t want a repeat!
Got to say, Scott, for me advising others whether the food is wonderful or so-so is a landmine. Viking Ocean food has more choices etc., than a river cruise. (We’ve done 2 with them and I think AMA Waterways is better - my opinion only) Just got off the Viking Mars today and food was very good, some very wonderful. Again, depends on what you like. Had a huge salmon filet last night with a breaded crabmeat on top, done rare, that was in the very wonderful category. Also mussels in Manfredi’s that I could’ve just drunk the sauce plain, so good. It you have a chance to watch any of my Ponant food vids, I think you will notice that the food is much more “haute” which becomes as little too much “haute.” Like I said, we all have opinions. @@SheilaSimkin thank you very much for your reply. I think that it depends on taste, however, the quality was not good enough in my opinion. My question was really for anyone who has experienced a Viking ocean cruise.

Have some vegetarian options sometimes or vegan ones. Some of your viewers don’t eat meat or fish
I try to slowly scan menus for sharp-eyed viewers like you who are veg, vegan but don’t include because I don’t order them. Ergo, can’t show what it looks like, or how it tastes. Hopefully I did video some in the daily World Cafe lunch line-up where there is also a Gluten free corner. There are a myriad of choices daily.
