Here's a tip: Specialty restaurant reservations are made available based on one's cabin. A time and date are provided for when you can make your reservation on-line and supposedly not before then. HOWEVER, I found after my first cruise and on my last two Viking Ocean cruises that it's prudent to start checking dining time availability at least two days before the date and time you have been provided. In each instance, I was able to make reservations well before then. Even so, I didn't get my first or second choice and that was with a PV2 penthouse veranda cabin.

We love Viking. After taking many cruses with others over years, this is now our only one. We are up to 14 Viking cruses (river & ocean).
We rate the Viking food as a 4 star restaurant.

Wow, 14 Viking cruises! That’s incredible! 🙌. We love Viking too-the ship, the service, the attention to detail, and the consistency across their fleet really set them apart, all while keeping everything casual and relaxing. And a 4-star restaurant rating for their food-that's such a great compliment, especially considering all dining options are included without any additional charge. Do you have a favorite Viking ship or destination from your many journeys?

Well done, and especially thank you for including information about specific diet requests! My wife and I are very concerned that we won’t find anything to eat that fits our plant-based diet based on cooking with no salt, sugar, or oil, and desserts of only fresh fruit. No alcohol. No soft drinks. No pasta. Breakfast of oatmeal with unsweetened plant milk and berries and walnuts. No dairy, no meat, no fish.

Viking accommodates dietary restrictions, including plant-based diets, very well. As highlighted in the video, it's beneficial to inform Viking about your diet before boarding. Once on the ship, having a quick chat with the restaurant or dietary manager on the first day, and double-checking with the crew when placing your order, will ensure your needs are met. Additionally, dining in the same area allows you to become familiar with crew members who understand your preferences. The buffet, brimming with fresh veggies, salads (with dressings on the side), and fruits, is a dream for plant-based diners.

@@TravelOnlyWithKen Thank you for that. Getting food that we can eat on board a cruise is one of our biggest concerns! We especially like Viking’s approach to cruising.

Viking do work well with different diets. The recommendation would be to contact Viking in advance of your cruise - 60/90 days - and give them a full list of what you can eat and what you cannot. Contact their customer service by email for this.
