To improve print quality, you should get rid of the springs where the bed mounts to the carriage. Instead, use nuts to hold it in place. The springs add backlash in both the Y and Z directions. Additionally, you over-constrained the Z-axis by coupling the threaded Z-rod to the frame. Threaded rods are typically not straight, and it's good to let them do their misshapen wobbling, and let the smooth rods do the guiding. Constraining the threaded rod in the way that you did can cause strain on the motors (causing skipped steps), and the frame. If you still have that printer there, you should try those fixes and see if there's any imrpovment.
I wish Ben could do another show but use his skill/knowledge/brilliance on motor vehicles. He is one smart guy - surely he'd be able to improve on some hydrogen generators, fuel efficient carburetors, electric motors etc.
So you get asked by everyone to build an n64 postable yet you dont because its hard and pointless? Thats the point of your show! I think 90% of people watching these videos do so to see the build rather than the final result.A high end gaming laptop can play 99% of all the games from the consoles you have made portable and is more compact. Get it built Benjamin.
Hey Ben, awesome double decker 3D printer! Does the plastic you use for printing allow for the finished printed products be sanded and smoothed? I've never used it before but it looked brittle. I was thinking, you could use something you sanded down to make a mold. Then you could cast 3D objects from stronger materials.
14:08 You seem way too proud of what you've done. I would not be surprised if you don't get super fast speeds out of the thing you make up all your time savings by multiplying your prints.... Im building one now based on Prusa mendel.
Hey Ben, a good way to keep the threads from galling when you cut threaded rods or screws is to put a nut on before you cut it. When you remove the nut after the cut, you are basically using the nut as a die and rethreads the piece. Then you don't need to sand it.
This is realy off subject but: I've been playing a game called "Metro 2033" and im wonderinf if you could make a tutorial on how to build the flashlight + the hand crank battery-charger that is shown in the game. Because i want to build a charger just like it. and i dont have a clue how to. :/ XD
Oh wow, well I know a brand that "only" costs 50 dollars. It only works for a certain type of 3D printer, but since the 3D printer is pretty small I am guessing that is why they are only 50 bucks. How many things can you print with your cartridges?
The next refinement seems to be coupling a laser in the same tool set like a multi-changer machining cnc. Extrude just a bit over-size and then trim it up. Your rants about are topics for concepts.
It would be faster and easier to use a cnc router or the laser cutter because its big flat pieces you need not intricate detail. or you could use plexiglass and build one by yourself without a 3d printer or expensive tools.
The portable n64 im gonna build is gonna hopefully be inside an old laptop so its an n64 laptop and laptops already have a screen speakers and power so i think it will be dirt cheap as i have most everything already.
Buy a "the clapper" from 15 years ago. Ask your parents... they'll tell you. Ask them about "the clapper" lol. You'll get a response along the lines of "clap on, *clap, clap* clap off *clap, clap*... THE CLAPPER.
Hey I don't know where we are suppose to tell you what we want you to make but I think it would be cool if you showed us how to make our lights go on or off when we clap! please get back to me and btw, YOUR AWSOME!
I know that somethings may not be practical, but we still have dreams. Me, Id love to see a portable original xbox, its cheap, and a lot of people use it for more than just gaming.
2 #D printers are better than a system like this. Even though this one is cool. 2 3D printers take almost the same amount of resources and you can print different things if you like. If one object blows up then you can stop that printer and restart that job. Fun idea but not real practical.
can you build a power bank for android.. a simple power bank that can charge your android devices many times. using a 12volt or 6 volt big batteries :)
Fugg you, I still want a Portable N64... xD Nice printer, you should post some more complex object videos showing it off. And paint the goddamn thing...
Now make a scanner that scans an object them copies it in 3d. that would be awesome. copy paste of say, a lego man or something, just to see if it works!
Do the double heck-er dual extruder printer with heated beds that can print any material and electronics then send me copy when you're done. Hopefully I won't go senile by the time its done

Ben, do you read these comments? I would very much like to know which was the thingiverse entry for the coupling you show on your video!
Ben, 2nd consecutive episode I saw you using the short end of the allen wrench to torque the screw at the end. The reason these wrenches have a long and a short side is so that you can transition between quick rotation and higher torque.
Hello Ben great video I was wondering if you could send me a parts list and possibly a template for your briefcase 3D printer if you could send it to my email if possible thanks
Shouldn't you call it a Double - Hecker - 3D printer? :'D ... meep
+Arawn Davies Music
Thats a heck of an idea... meep
I still want a portable N64
After your viewer questions I was extremely disappointed that what you were going to build on your next episode was Not a portable nintendo 64.
you should put a black filament in one side, and white in the other and print chess and checkers.

Ben should call it the 1-2-3D Printer, cause it's an all in 1, double (2) printing, 3D printer :)
DEV KIT HQQQQ
LOL

excellent build, in addition to the heads heading for home when the print is complete, the bed would come forward as to serve you the finished item.

I'm watching this while I'm waiting for my 3d printer to finish haha.
See you gave in to making a portable N64 in the end...
I know that somethings may not be practical, but we still have dreams. Me, Id love to see a portable original xbox, its cheap, and a lot of people use it for more than just gaming.
Try 3D printing records (it's possibleseeedrhdururidur)

Ben, Could you make a UAV? I also had an idea for a short range mini-UAV that you could deploy from your car to see why traffic is jammed up ahead
Fugg you, I still want a Portable N64... xD

watching this show makes me jealous... I want to learn electronics soooo bad but I just can't understand it, missed too many classes in school >

Ben, do you read these comments? I would very much like to know which was the thingiverse entry for the coupling you show on your video!
I have watched a few of your episodes. Would you say Ben Heck Industries is more about prototype and design than it is a production shop?
I would love to see a mini SLA/STL printer made from salvaged DVD rom drives.
i know, i wanted ben to show us how they make one =) My laser scanning engineering is not so good =P but ben can make anything!
I'm really anxious for the next two videos. I have wanted a coin machine for a long time that I could put in my projects.
do you have a parts or design spec list somewhere that has like the type of motors you used the software and other such
this is amazing! I wish i had the skills to build a 3d printer. I'm a 3d artist and i always wanted to print out my art.
Will you build me a portable N64?
That was pretty freaking cool. really freaking cool. Awesome, actually. YOU KNOW WHAT? FREAKING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sup ben
Dear Ben, Is it possible to make a 3d printer that cost around $100-$150? When it's true; can you show it in a vid?
Dear Ben, can you make sunglasses that look like 3D glasses from the outside but they function as real sunglasses?
Could you show how to do this printer but in single form instead of dual?
He needs to make a 3d printer without a 3d printer or cnc machine and then if possible make it quite cheap.
perfect for making chess pieces and checkers and RISK and complicated dice and tons of other geeky game pieces
Make a 3d printer print two different things on the same print bed at the same time.
Ben: how do you feel about 3D printed puzzles, such as Rubik's Cubes, Gear Cubes, and other twisty puzzles?
Tip for cleaning up the threaded rod after cutting, put the nut on first and take it off after cut. It will clean up the threads.
They are still way to expensive both the printers and the resin
Next time you build a 3d printer make it use hot glue guns so you can 3d print stuff outta hot glue...
There exists n64 emulators on android phones. Not too sure about whether iOS has n64 emulators though.
you should make a machine that keeps soda cans cold and then shoots one to you with a wireless remote
They have thoes the was a youtube video of one scanning something and then a 3d printer printed it.
what else have you made with this, chess board pieces would be good, and checkers, etc, what else?
Well someone seems to be in bed with Printrbot lately! Did it ever print better than those squirrels?
if possible with a auto turn off. which let you set a charging time ex. 3 hours of charging :P
Why would we iron our shirts. We are trying to make things! And there is only so much time!
This is shapin' up to be a sweet, huge printer! Nice job.
Ben, 2nd consecutive episode I saw you using the short end of the allen wrench to torque the screw at the end. The reason these wrenches have a long and a short side is so that you can transition between quick rotation and higher torque.
Depends how much torque you need mate.
You're getting close to being able to sell it as a build your own 3d printer kit!
For some reason I just got this as a notification as a new video.
He forgot money. If you pay Ben enough, he will make you a portable Nintendo DS.
Was that the Beer case computer up on the shelf next to the black Mackintosh?
Does the board supports two heated bed? or there is a tricky way!
for God's sake Ben, iron your shirt! You're not helping the nerd image! :P
Thanks Element14 for making this show possible! :)
this would be a good printer for bookends :P
can you make electronics enclosures or custom pc cases in a 3D printers?
Why four springs for the corners of the print bed?
Wait a minute, was that a Logan's Run reference?
Sooo... when are you gonna build the triple decker 3D printer "3D3D"?
I want a 3d printer, but the cartridges are fucking 50 dollars a pop!
is it possible to make a 3d printer with a rasberry pi to control it
Will you build a portable Nintendo 64?
Gotta love the constant "The room" references. You're awesome, Ben!
You should call it something like, quantum entangled or something
Is it just me or does Benjamin Heckendorn sound like Gabe Newell?
eeeew @ 14:00 mic quality is AWFUL. pls fix for future vids Ben!
That GTA:San Andreas flashback I got from 6:57 was bloody epic.
if we had all the same tools we could make it look easy to....
@3:50 what came first the 3d printer or the 3d printed part.
What store did you get the threaded rods from?
"The Clamps, The Clamps!" - Love the Futurama reference.
how does it cost to make this and are you selling this
Yeah dude, can you show us how to make a 3d scanner.
Please adopt me!
Are your CAD files available?
Hello Ben great video I was wondering if you could send me a parts list and possibly a template for your briefcase 3D printer if you could send it to my email if possible thanks
ALL AVAILALE ON ELEMENT 14
Ah! Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!
7:27 lol the clamps!
someone watches futurama
lol "horse with no name " when using glue :-P
15:15 i tell m wife that but still no 3 some
I think its a 40W Epilog Mini Laser Engraver
Ben did you build the laser cutter that you are using to cut the parts
Can you make a video on how to make this laser cutter please!
Yehudah Nayman That looks to be a commercial laser cutter.
OH MY GOD.... I SO NEED A DEV KIT NAOW!!!!!
You make all this stuff look far too easy..
Next time make a LASER CUTTING MACHINE!!!
haha Zak McCracken squirrel reference ? :)
IS that an old mac Plus at 2:37 (top left)
