I miss Wink, I liked how he didnt sit back and let the offense dictate the game
One thing Wink and Bowen have in common is choking on long 3rd downs.
I remember seeing Titans fans were not sorry to see Bowen go. It wasn't a good feeling because I remember Bills fans felt very similarly about Bobby Johnson, and we know how that worked out
Wink's D gave up 100 points the first 3 games of the season last year. 150 the first 5.
It was easy to forget how bad the defense was when the opponents would score in a blink of an eye.
Eh. Winks defense had its problems. Terrible against the run, last year the fundamentals were trash and they were not good on 3rd down.
@@brianb7423 yeah you're right about that. I think for me it's more about the optics. At least Wink was aggressive and tried to come after the offense, and try to confuse the QB. That would've been effective against a rookie QB I'm sure. As opposed to just sitting back and letting them come to you. Much more enjoyable watching Wink's defense last year. To borrow a baseball analogy, Wink's defense felt more like going down swinging vs this which feels more like striking out looking
Great breakdown Bobby. The offense looked improved which we needed badly . Dabs eyes better be wide open this week with easy setups for Nabers. The key will be getting that timing down on the long bombs. Once DJ can unlock that timing this offense can take the next step. Oline was solid as well. The biggest improvement was DJ working inside the pocket instead of running into sacks. He moved side to side much better even with pressure up close. It's only a matter of time until Nabers has a giant orbit around him and our TE's & Slay can start eating.
Our defense well ...... We were freaking out all summer about our secondary and they've actually been solid despite the youth factor. The front needs to man up and show us something next game. We just got shown up by Bobby Johnson ffs. I better see Watson smothered all game like he's been the first 2 weeks.
I totally forgot Bobby Johnson is the Commanders' OL coach now lmao

I really just stop watching the Giants. Plenty of better games to watch.
I'm still curious to see how certain players perform and/or develop but I can get that information here better than watching the game.

Bobby, These segments are great to watch with your explanation of coverages. I didn't realize how bad DJ is on anticipating receivers coming open. He only throws when he sees an open man. Anyway great job as always!

Off topic - but with the new kicking rules, Giants should consider carrying two kickers: one for kickoffs capable of making a tackle, and one for field goals and PATs while reasonably staying out of harms way. Give the extra kicker an actual useful role.
Not for nothing, but in the past ten games or so we've lost two (three?) games due to an injured kicker.
Hey Bobby, great vid as always. Have to take exception to the comments on the sail play at 17.10 you said there was 2x double teams and the tackles singled up. But the RG comes off his double to help the RT, which breaks the protection on the LDT who if DJ had tried to go deep to Slayton would have got the sack. Taking 2 steps up drags the safety spy into the play, so that wouldn't work either. A quibble, ho hum.
A marked improvement on last week. Maybe because it's the Commanders, but DJ looked mostly comfortable, was making, if not great decisions then ones we could understand, and the running game was chugging along.
Love the breakdown, now I've got another treat ahead, the OL report.

Makes Absolutely no sense for the corners to be playing so far back. Especially on the plays ▶️ going 4 short yardage for a first down marker. Ridiculous
Atleast Malik gives us something to look forward to watching this year. And DJ played better than either backup would have.

Worst part about the first deep throw miss is if you look at where the WRs are, Slayton was further downfield than Nabers lol. Maybe DJ is used to slaytons trackstar speed

Playing 10 yards off on 3rd and short is the Bowen special. Drives me nuts
28:08 - Robinson run play. McFadden does not either have the knowledge or vision to know that is a run play and does not step forward but instead starts to back up. A good to great middle linebacker would see it and attack a second before and shut this down. He reacts to the play instead of anticipating and having good vision.

Dru Phillips impressed me BUT tonight he was gonna be run stopper
On a couple of the deep routes, Nabers and Slayton took similar routes along the sidelines. Midfield was wide open. I'd like to see one of Nabers, Slayton, (or Hyatt) break to the middle on a post or sharp 90. Wide open 25 yards into the secondary.
This was great. I never played so I need this kind of stuff to better understand who blew their assignment
That weird one towards the end looked like banks messing up to me. Especially considering he just seemed to mentally not be fully locked in

Match defenders on the trips side got confused by the motion and no one accounted for the back

Secondary is wayyy too loose in zone coverage. Bowen needs to tighten that up & draw from some Red Zone principles. On Robinson's 40 yard run, Kayvon and Flott look like they got thrown out of a bar.
Don't think they trust the DBs to not gibe up big plays, and would rather challenge the offense to sustain long 12+ play drives.
And tbf they only gave up 21 points lol that should be good enough to win more often than not in this league. But of course we have had on offense chronically allergic to scoring 30+ for 6 years.
How many offense plays we had
3 deep on 3rd and 1.... tells me all I need to know about this coach and the state of the giants until he's removed.

@25:57 Even in a broken 2 point conversion, (which bobby wagner played perfectly) Daniel Jones had an opportunity to throw and score a TD to Tracy. On top of not being a good processor - he's also very robotic, he has no gamesmanship

Jayden Daniels moved the ball with ease, so that decision making you talking is false. Dumb penalties in the red zone (4 false starts) kept us from puttin up a 40 burger. Jayden is him. You’ll have a front row seat the next decade plus. And no one is trying to tackle B Rob, haha.
