LETS GO!!!!! Another recent video upload!!!! We are getting closer for disscussions of engines and wooden railway adventures returning! This video is very interesting, I wish Merlin got a twr release he would look so good.
What I never understood is why was Thomas Adventures dumped like a hot potato in very short time. It was around for 2 years and had a great variety of characters. Between Thomas Wood & Thomas Adventures & awkward 'Metal Engine' era it marked some very dark times with Thomas toys. I could see in Oz there was huge trouble with Thomas Wood when it was being sold in discount stores and the totally overpriced playsets were being ignored by consumers. Sadly I feel the darkest days are still coming. I'm not seeing Thomas products selling in the way it use to. Thanks Mattle, nice job in creating this train wreck.
My cousin actually has that set. I collect wooden railway and got him interested in trains and his parents bought quite a few Thomas wood items. I know for a fact he has that set and I’ve played with it with him! They live in Texas now so that might be one of the only ones of those sets in America. I did see this on the shelves once here in Canada but there were no more.
This is interesting as I actually saw someone else who I'm subscribed to make a review on this set 2 years ago. Now if they're from Canada or not I don't know but possibly. Although I never thought it would actually be a "rare Thomas wood set". That being said though it is a shame though they didn't release some of the wood engines as I definitely wanted to use that Flying Scotsman to make the perfect custom one but I digress. Either way this was a nice little history video as I didn't think the set was not released but even though it was just not here in the US. It's stuff like this that really proves that the communication between the people distributing the show and merchandise were not on the same page. Once again a fantastic video Keekre keep up the good work!
I remember seeing this set at my local Toys R Us. But I didn't buy it. I think it's cool that this set incloods the Earl and wouldn't mind picking him/the set up. Amazing video! Hope you have a great day!
We had plenty of exclusive releases here in Ireland and the UK and some that debuted over here before coming to the US, but it’s certainly fascinating to see a Canadian exclusive release, especially if it’s from the infamous Wood. It feels odd that they didn’t decide to include Stephen in this set though.
Thomas Wood was one of the greatest disasters ever to hit Thomas the Tank Engine. It didn't help that it was released in 2017, the same year Thomas' TV show got pulled from PBS despite Thomas having twice been a long-running staple of that network (yes, I'm counting Shining Time Station, the spin-off that introduced North American audiences to Thomas), DVD releases became more scarce, and Edward and Henry were pulled from the Steam Team in favor of Nia and Rebecca. While the line did show signs of improvement in 2019 by having the engines be fully painted and having characters like Edward, Henry, annd Toby released for it, by then, the damage was done. The line ended in mid-2021 due to its negative reception and poor sales, cancelling many of its future plans. Thomas Wooden Railway was re-released in a redesigned form the following year, with the line being a huge improvement over Wood, but Mattel being the Thomas-hating corporation they are today, instead of following up with new engines in the following years, the only new things they release are the Day Out With Thomas models and maybe a Celebration pack they have planned this year. If I were running that line, I'd have had new models of characters like Duck, Donald, Douglas, Oliver, and Toad released in early 2023 because I know they're who the fans want and who will sell well. I have seen the cancelled Thomas Wood sets and I have mixed feelings about them. The Bank Robbery set I feel could have worked much better for an engine like Diesel than Hiro, and the Alligator Farm set had its concept recycled from a Take N' Play playset with Gator in it, except the Wood set had a Green Salty in place of Gator. The Friendship Fairground set had some potential, with things like a ferris wheel that passenger figures could ride, a roller coaster incline, and a pen for cows. The Ice Skating Set looked cool as well, having a snow-covered Rebecca, a cave with a bear figure in it, and an ice rink that passenger figures could skate on. It would have been something great for the holiday season. Right now I feel that Thomas' quality can only improve if another company, like Orbrium, acquires the rights. Orbrium released several new items in 2023; new unpainted engines for the fans to customize as they please, train sets involving a medieval castle and a national park with a spiral mountain, and a track maintenance crew, which I did a Wooden Railway discussion on.
You know what I think you need to add to your Wooden Railway Collection? 1. Honey Depot 2. Popcorn Factory 3. Shark Food Delivery 4. Bubble Loader 5. Ice Cream Factory What do you think?
This is just my opinion I kinda Miss Thomas would have been KINDA but I am happy that Thomas wooden railway is back but they haven't been releasing a lot of new stuff lately I can't wish that the new wooden railway would have more sets now but they haven't been released in a lot of stuff lately
@joeysimm5777 It doesn't surprise me that Mattel hasn't released any new sets for the Thomas Wooden Railway line this year; the only new model they released in 2023 was the Day Out With Thomas model. Since late 2017, Mattel has been horribly mistreating Thomas, and things keep getting worse with each new year. I feel that Thomas' quality can only improve if another company, like Orbrium, acquires the license. Heck, if I were running the Thomas Wooden Railway line in 2023, I'd have had new models of characters like Duck, Donald, Douglas, Oliver and Toad released early that year because I know they're what the fans want and what will sell well.
It's very bizarre that the castle tower set from Thomas Wood was released in Canada and not the US and other countries of the world man, this is such a struggle and a bad decision on Mattel's part.
Holy cow you guys actually made the ultimate Island of sodor set. I’m impressed. Why not make a wooden railway discussion about this very rare TWR set?
@@MatecaCorp100% agree but I actually found a set number for uis online and printed it out so it must have been a retail release somewhere in the world if it had a set id number?
The sad thing is that the ideas for Wood sets were way better than the same ones released for TWR a few years earlier; if Wood’s sets were made with TwR’s track system it would have been some of the best Mattel items, like the Lift and Load set.
5:346:30 Like the super cruiser/Stefano just because I used it along with the gantry crane for the narrow-gauge engines, Ada Jane Mabel, Victor, Kevin, sort of Colin and the potato head toys that I use in for Merrick and Owen to ride on. Also just like the fully coloured wood train of Yong Bao.
I think I had found an Amazon listing for it, but the item wasn't available for purchase. I think I kept coming back to see if it was available, but then just gave up after a while. I do find it to be quite interesting and it would have played a huge part in the Ulstead Castle area on my layouts.
I remember trying to find the Castle Tower set a few years ago and had a tough time. Eventually, I saw a website called MasterMind Toys having it on sale for under $100 and had a wonderful experience with them. The set came in a week latrr and it's one of the more bettet sets in the Thomas Wood line.
I know as a previous Thomas merch Collector I knew the Thomas wood line was very short & I think it was a controversial transition from the Classic TWR line at the time around Toys R Us before they officially Closed all Us Stores in 2018
Aw, just when I thought I had one of every TWR character released, Sir Robert Norramby rears his head in a niche release. Hopefully, this video might spurr an ebay listing or two.
So, recently, I’ve been trying to make my own collection of wooden railway, and I couldn’t really find any websites that sold what I wanted, so I was wondering if any of you could tell me where you get your wooden railway items. Thank you (:
question TWR, do you know how rare the 60th anniversary wooden railway diesel is? Reason I'm asking is bc I myself have one, my mother found it on her way home from work in Langton (This was a few years back) and found it, she decided to give it to me since, well, I liked Thomas a lot back then. And whilst watching this and another video of yours a few minutes ago, I was wanting to know how rare it was, and I thought you might've known the answer
I rather like this set. Had it released worldwide, and with proper models and figures, it would have been a very good set to tie into the King of the Railway film, as I feel other sets based on that film were quite lackluster.
When Mattel released Thomas Wood, they didn’t just shoot themselves in the foot; they shot themselves in both feet and then slammed a baseball bat against their kneecaps repeatedly. ~ Marco Rubio
Now if only they planned as much in advance for the new wooden railway as they did for wood... then we definitely wouldn't have had a full 2 years of dead air Really disappointing how much they're wasting this golden opportunity
The saddest thing is that Thomas Wood lasted longer than TWR 2022. I wish they’d bring back TWR, even as AEG. It’s just not Thomas if you can’t get a little version of him made of a dead tree.
This line of toys never interested me seeing unfinished wooden trains in 2018 was really sad to see on shelfs when graduating high school even when this out I thought this line of toys was not gonna last long. I do think this set and the deluxe echo rescue set where interesting but would maybe have done well if they both would have been sold in the United States
@peterd.9893 Knowing Mattel, probably not. It makes me wish that another company, such as Orbrium had the license instead. Orbrium makes their products specifically with Thomas Wooden Railway in mind, and they released several promising new products in 2023; new unpainted engines for the fans to customize as they please, train sets involving a medieval castle and a national park with a spiral mountain, and a track maintenance crew (which I did a Wooden Railway discussion on).

Thomas Wood has to be the laziest Thomas themed merchandise from Mattel and having them NOT fully painted just goes to show that the brand was a mistake from the start
I honestly feel like Mattel planned way too much for Thomas Wood without thinking of the consequences that would come if were to be a failure.
They also planned and cancelled a lot of characters like Rocky, Ferdinand, Connor, Gator, Flying Scotsman, Frankie, Beau, etc.
So true.
I kinda wish TFS did release so we can have one with the CGI/TV series face instead of the RWS face.
