Eunyoung Choi has done key animation, episode direction etc. in most of Yuasa's works. She also directed an episode of Space Dandy herself. She's pretty humble mostly acting as a "translator" in this video ;)
I hunted down the influences he said. Here they are if you're looking for them too! Hayao Miyazaki, Egon Schiele, Tsutomu Shibayama (check out The Gutsy Frog), Shinya Ohira, Shoujirou Nishimi.
Recently I watched “My Neighbor Totoro” with my 3 yo niece. It was such an intense experience for her, that it became a much more powerful experience to me also, because I got to watch it through her eyes. Miyazaki pulled her strings like a conductor, her reactions were priceless: she'd cover her eyes, hold my hand, laugh hysterically... it was a beautiful thing to watch. I think it's not only a great immersive aesthetic experience for children, but it's also educative, it makes them think new things. For example, in the film they talk about a "haunted house" as something positive, which I found to be a very interesting concept to introduce a child's mind. It's teaching them to rejoice in mystery and wonder, to have a positive attitude before the unknown. That encourages them to see life in a whole different way than I was taught for example-which is to be freaked out by whats' alien or different to me and sort of protect myself and hide myself from experiencing life fully.
Bro , So nice to hear thoughts on "My Neighbor Totoro" through different perspective (means through your Niece eyes). Thanks for telling us and I also plan to show them to my Father's Niece one day.
It broke my heart when Choi and Yuasa brought up Kemonozume and you didn't ask any questions about it. I'm dying for it to get a US release. Also no questions about kaiba. Pretty sad as well. Other than that pretty interesting concept and talk. I'd like to see Choi get her own talk.
This was fun, you both share an expressionist streak that runs in Downtown and Mind Game.. or, flourishes of vibrant artwork that reflect a personal moment. Sketch exchanges like this are a great idea too, very cool!
don't wanna have to vent such a sour note, but to get an internship at titmouse NY they require it for school credits :/ Love both studios! but it's just a big catch 22
Yuasa did 4 of season 2, I believe- the one with the crazy fish planet. I don't know for sure what episode Choi directed, which makes me feel bad because she seems to often be overshadowed by yuasa. Regardless, his episode is great.
I want Masaaki (correctly pronounced Ma-sa-ocki, not, NOT ma-socky, as you did(unfortunately as too many people have done) To remake Harry Nilsson's The Point. Its not only time because the animation needed a refresh, but also if we could update the music, because Nilsson was a genius too!

OrangeVision I know! I asked her if she wanted to participate but she didn’t want to :( Maybe next time!
Indeed! Thank you for mentioning this.
thats cool, I didn't know who she was, but now I do. Thanks for your comment/pinning this comment!
No wayyy! That's amazing! Putting a face to the name I've become so familiar with by following their work is an awesome feeling!
Man, what an honor. Yuasa's one of the most valuable creators anime has, breaking the monotony with his instantly recognizable style.
this is amazing I can't believe it has so few views! I love his work so much thank you for this!

Thanks for sharing, sometimes we overlook just how masterful a work is due to how mainstream it is
@@Agrarius24this is probably a reference to the stuff around the one hour mark

I really enjoy Space Dandy and own the series on digital, which episodes did Yuasa & Choi direct respectively?
