I am impressed that you were very patient doing small improvements on that water stain, taking long breaks between applications, and being careful not to do any damage. I am also guessing that you are using pharmacy peroxide at 3% solution, and then cutting that even lower by adding more water. Nice job.
I really enjoyed watching this. I have a lot of silver age books I bought off of someone recently that have stains like this. Did you send this book back into CGC and what grade did it come back with after? Thanks.
Subbed. Dude your so knowledgeable, I want to start cleaning my own books but don't know how to go about it. I'll just keep watching, learn a thing or two till I'm ready to begin. 🖖😃
Thanks for the compliment. My videos should definitely get you started on your journey! Pick up a copy of the CPR handbook as well. It's a great resource.
Do you clean books for others also? I have a Marvel Value Stamp book that I would like to get some TLC for before I put in the 100 stamps I have collected. The previous owner cut (poorly) and entered a few stamps - I am hoping they can be removed? And colored in the front cover a little? If the whole book could be cleaned and pressed I think it would be nicer when I enter all the "new" stamps.
Hi do you do service clean and press for other or just for yourself..? You have amazing skills... I have few golden age books and few 80s books that need press, clean and foxy remove but don't know who to pick.. Great video and New Sub
@@epicomicologycomics I would love to see the results of the regrade. Even if you're not interested in making a follow up video, maybe consider just creating a PINNED post with the newest grade, possibly including the graders notes. Thanks for sharing!
Considering there hasn't been an update in a couple of years, its safe to assume that the grade came back below a CGC 5.5 and your method of cleaning did not work. Not trying to be harsh or critical, but I am trying to learn how to properly clean and press my comics. SO... with that being said and no result video show, we all (viewers) have to assume the worst. We all would love to see an update on what you received back from CGC.
Nice job on that stain ! I will have to try your method. Two new things (for me) to add to the arsenal - paint brush and mini-humidifier. Thanks for the tutorial ! (By the way, do I still see a faint hint of the stacking curl on the top half of the front cover (around 55:00)) ?
Since you are confident enough to get the cover wet, what about lightly swiping a water damp cotton round over the area as an extra wet/dry session between every other direct brush wet/dry session? Maybe that would achieve the blending you are looking for in the region.
Watching your videos make me want to try to clean some comics of my youth. Have some poor condition books with low resale value. Do you have any comments on using diluted acetic acid (CH3COOH) - vinegar or diluted sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) - baking power as a cleaning agents? I've read some papers about older paper conservation of art prints using baths of those chemicals, but wouldn't imagine taking apart a comic to clean each page using this process. Maybe a spot cleaning like you are doing with the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) would work. Any feedback would be instructive. Thanks for these videos.
A guy once told me how to whiten up the pages but cant remember the product he used. It gave off a vapor and the book had to be open somehow for all the pages to be exposed to the vapor. Is this such a thing?
I know that people in the paper conservation industry use some type of chemical bath, but I am not familiar with the process. It's something I would love to learn.
I put all my books face to face & if there is any room at all on the sides of the box it still will leave a spine puff; so to speak. I had to then go through my whole collection to put it all back the original way. I just don't think there is any way to prevent that totally.
I think I may have seen the post on the KM Facebook page. It's a really great idea, especially for bigger stacks. I have it on my list to try out. Thanks for the tip!
Sooooo... some people send their old label in with the resubmission. CGC is supposed to update the registry and remove that book. I have never confirmed this myself. In the back of my mind, I have this notion that I don't want them to know what grade it was before. Therefore, I don't send my labels. You can later email customer service and tell them that book was cracked. Again, I haven't confirmed they update the registry.
I kind of buzzed through the video, but it seems like you are watering down 3% hydrogen peroxide which would make it 1.5% and I hear other people using 35% to 50% pure. Seriously, am I wrong or are you using way to weak of a hydrogen peroxide mix? Doesn’t it say in Kaptain Mikes book, that he uses HP at 50%? Or am I nuts?
I think most people black out Chem I Lab from college and just don't remember how solutions work. I am almost certain that everyone is starting with 3% and then diluting. So you are 100% correct... 3% USP diluted with half water would be 1.5%. Great point!
@@epicomicologycomics Hey, I just got a response from Rick with immaculate comics, and he says he usually uses 13% going as high as 25% for special cases. I am getting some 35% tomorrow from an online dealer which I am going to dilute 2:1 to get it down to about 12% pure and play around with that. This is mostly academic, since I would generally shy away from HP unless pretty necessary..
So pumped everytime you shoot out a new video. You have the best cleaning and pressing content bro. Keep it coming
Appreciate it!
I concur, found your channel today and I do hope you put out more of these
Watching this a year after you posted it, Thank you for the tutorials.
Wow! Very impressive getting the stain removed. 👍 I didn’t think it could be done. Great video. Thank you!
Thanks for the comments! I am improving on these methods every day! There is a new book on stain removal that just came out.
Great video with lots of value! So now you have to she an unboxing with the new CGC grade

Great video. At about the 15 minute mark you start cleaning. There's a sponge looking item you are going over the book with. What is that please?
so much incredible information in this one!!
Appreciate it buddy!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Going to try it on some cheat books.
Great videos man started watching some of them just subbed great knowledge. Going to your ebay store for those kits
Awesome! Good luck on your journey. Let me know if you have any questions!
would like to see how this came back after resubmission?

Have you gotten any comics back from cgc that you've worked on? Curious to see the grade increase.
I'm working on a video of all the updates. Even though I pay for Fast Track, it is still taking a while!

@@epicomicologycomics Hi. It's been a year. How did the book come back from CGC?
The pain the pain, I had this book and werewolf, and Frankstien. But moved out of home , lost way back in the 1970's 😪
Gonna start practicing.
Great explanation. How do you avoid spreading the stain if it’s not on the edge?
7 Months and still no book... This is why I am not using CGC anymore. I really like what EGS is about and has to offer.
I turn one upside down but keep them faceing the same way that works good as well
Will this work on Marker or better yet. Do you have a video related to comics with marker on it?

Can you re-use the blotter paper after it dries or is it done with?
Yes, once it dries you can use it a few times. If it is visibly soiled/discolored, I would not use that piece again.
@@epicomicologycomics Thanks for the reply

Great eye. The book lays flat,. So the curl is gone, but the gloss where the bend was has been affected. That's what is giving it that slight haze.
I have a cd that got sharpie on the insert is there a way to remove it?
Thank for the vid very helpful
Appreciate it!
What grade did it get when you got it back?
Do you think this lightening method will work on dust shadows?
What did CGC grade it at?
Since you are confident enough to get the cover wet, what about lightly swiping a water damp cotton round over the area as an extra wet/dry session between every other direct brush wet/dry session? Maybe that would achieve the blending you are looking for in the region.
What kind of sponge were you using?
so what was the new grade from CGC?

What grade did you get on re submission
How bad was it when it came back?
August 2022 now and still no result from re-grading?

If the stain was higher up would you paint the entire paper below the stain or just the water line?
I think you answered my question when I rewatched
Helped me 💪🏾
Please post the grade when it returns from CGC. Probably 7.5 or 8.0...it's hard to tell without being inperson.

I would be curious to know what grade you get back from CGC, I personally think this book could get an 8.0 now.
It's at CGC soon! Hopefully I can make and update video soon.
I've been actually sanding the one edge of the card stock to fit in closer to the spine.

What grade did the book come back?
He will let you know after CGC sends it back. Maybe by 4th of July if he's lucky. :)
