The first ELO album (in my opinion) is a minor masterpiece of Baroque & Roll. It's sad that it's generally under appreciated and overlooked by mainstream fans of the band. "Boulders" by Roy Wood even more...Dear Elaine.

Roy seems like he had a lot of classical/folk training. I feel like he could have helped Jeff’s musical and lyric ideas develop a lot more, which stagnated and regressed at some point without someone like Roy around imo. I like song writing teams where there is some clashing of personality leading to more interesting results. Unfortunately they tend to not last that long!

Yes, both Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne were and are studio- men. Both very shy in the public. In the summer 1973 Wizzard visited in my homeland Finland. People came to see and hear See My Baby Jive and Angel Fingers live. But in the middle of the first track Roy Wood lost his nerves and soon the whole show was over and they disappeared from the stage. I was then only nine but I have read about it but never got an answer for that.

Wilf Gibson on violin (replaced Steve Woollam, and in turn replaced by Mik Kaminski), Bill Hunt on French Horn (left when Jeff assumed sole responsibilities for the band), Hugh McDowell, Mike Edwards and I think Colin Walker on cellos (Hugh left with Roy and went to Wizzard, then came back by 'On The Third Day'), Richard Tandy on keyboard (having been on bass I think as part of original live line up) and of course Jeff, Roy and Bev.
