Much better looking than the new Passat. VW should have done what BMW did with the latest 5 series and given us this shape and offered a range of power sources
EV's are facing a huge problem that no-one seems to address. The people that can afford EV's want to be the first to embrace new tech, however, once they trade it in, the people that couldn't afford it in the first place, still won't buy it. This is due to two reasons. Infrastructure and cost of living, given that energy is still a major expense . Personally, I live in a flat and there is no chance a charger can be fitted, keeping me out of the EV market despite cost not being an issue.
It really isn't complicated. If you can't charge at home, you charge at public chargers. In the same way, you couldn't fill up with petrol/diesel at home so you went to a public filling station.
@@nicksmpsn6546 Fully agree, same situation. Unfortunately I am a company car driver and the tax benefits/penalties mean I need to go with an EV or Hybrid. Currently Hybrid but will be switching back to EV next year as the fuel cost on a dead battery hybrid is just stupid
@@batchreviews What amazes me is how long they have taken to respond to its universal panning. I just look at that and think, "looks the same as my original ID4", not interested.
@@ewenbruce5851it’s taken a long time. It looks very similar but the system is far quicker and the sliders are backlit - not backlighting the sliders was a terrible decision
@@batchreviews Making them sliders in the first place was also a bad decision. The original ID setup, with its mass of sliders and (allegedly) touch-sensitive steering wheel buttons was an absolute mess. The mistake, I think, that VW is making is that they think they can evolve the system and make customers less grumpy about how bad it is/was. It needed a complete redesign to win users back. They built something that didn't work and that customers/reviewers hated. Reviewers may be able to appreciate the incremental improvements because they don't have to live with the shortcomings for 3-4years. Customers are less forgiving (BTW - great review; should have said that earlier).
Nice balanced review.... I'm currently waiting for my ID7 Tourer in standard edition to be delivered. Sadly the GTX wasn't on the list! My company car had to be electric and with 3 kids and a dog unless you want an SUV there's not a lot on the market for this price. The standard version is incredibly relaxing to drive and as you say the interface is much better than it was. Yes, it's a bit plain but I just can't get on with Teslas image.... and my current Mercedes has been a massive disappointment which has put me off the brand. The ID7 is a really good all rounder....
Sorry James but an EV will just never be as fun as a petrol powered equivalent. They are far too heavy & lumpent in the handling department. You can dress it up with all the bells & whistles but carrying all those heavy batteries you can’t escape physics. Until they work out a way to reduce the weight of the battery I won’t even think about buying an EV.
James!! ……as per usual, you are bang! On trend! On all your reviews. Thank you Sir, love your excellent reviews? 🎉 keep em coming 🎉
I wish us Brits did go mad for hot estates, or any estate to be honest, because then there’d be a lot fewer giant SUVs on the road.

Interesting. I kind of agree with you!
Great Car, another honest and informative review.
My favourite car reviewer
Great review, but the microphone is hissy.. bit tinny sounding
Thanks! 👍😅
£63,000 !!!!! ....are they effing mental 😒
😊
Over £60k for a Passat estate? VW passing on the costs of their diesel gate fine?

This is nowhere near "hot". 5.5 sec is ridiculous. It needs to at least be in the mid 4s to be hot
It looks f way to0 long😂
Those wheels are just so god damned awful
Still has the same crap user interface. I'll not be buying another VW until they sort it out.
It’s a lot better, I promise you. But I would imagine VW has lost plenty of customers because of the last interface

I entirely understand. That’s why I want an 850 T5-R some day

All technologies need time to improve. Could be 5years, could be 10. But eventually it will happen...
The Golf R Estate is much faster than this, you should check your sources before telling lies in your videos
Have you actually watched the video? I said the Golf R is faster. Hell, a Golf 1.5 is even faster.
