Each character has a certain color when they're close to their demise. Perry's was red, Camilles was white, Leo's was yellow, and Vics is orange- which is really interesting to see
The colors were there all throughout their scenes - Perry's clothes, car, phone, the symbol & writing of his club were all red. Camille's hair, office/home, car & phone were white. Leo's phone, car, loft, and a few of his clothes were yellow. Vic's office shelves are orange, and her clothing is usually a shade of brown (arguably a dark orange). Tamra wears a lot of green, the Goldbug boxes, her phone & the neon sign right outside her bedroom - green. Freddie is the most subtle with "his" color, but usually wears blue, and Morrie was wearing a blue dress at The Party
Love how there's a bit of a unique modernized twist to Flanagan's version of the Tell-Tale Heart that doesn't just help with how Roderick could also hear the heart- beating sounds, but also gives a different creepy sound to associate it with. Usually adaptations just have the usual spooky heart-beat sounds, but Flanagan went the extra creative mile to use a heart mesh instead and made it subtly creepy! ^^
This is the Poe story that stuck with me from middle school, and so I knew as soon as Vic fought w her girlfriend what was going to happen, as I imagine most fans did. So when Sergio said “I don’t know what’s happening,” and Cody said “I do,” I was so damn pumped!
Honestly. My favorite episode. Specifically for the fight between Tamerlane and Billt. She is an amazing actress and Billt really put in his work. But everyone in this episode really played their part so well. And Madeline a FUCKING ICON. She can do no wrong in my eyes.
I would like Vic if she wasn't so corrupt. She has a soul underneath all that Usher. She could have been a good person. The things she did were horrible, but the dying cry of "Daddy" is wrenching.
You guys are my absolute favorite reactors to the series! I love the narration and visual storytelling of the original Poe works at the end of each episode. Keep it up! 💗
I was so elated to see Mary McDonnell on screen again! Her lines, delivery, poise, and presence as older Madeline is so fierce!! I was first captivated by her when she played the President on Battle Star Galactica. Her performances are always so hypnotizing!
Pretty sure they weren't married - in episode 1 Ali signed her first "original Pym", and is told that the prenup is bigger than a phone book - implying she hasn't even seen it yet, let alone signed it
I've been waiting for this one!! I haven't read a lot of Edgar Allen Poe but The Tell-Tale Heart was my favorite when I read it. The sound of the heart squishing throughout the episode and the build up at the end so well done! Also love the story times w/ Cody so so smart
the way Cody tells the story at the end with the images/illustrations being depicted on screen... can we get an entire segment of that? Like what do we have to do to make that happen?
I love how Cody retells the story ❤. Another great reaction,i just love you guys. Can't wait next episode! Maybe check out The Raven from 2012 with John Cusack . You will love it
I'm just gonna say it... my favourite part of this episode is the fact that the lady who plays Alessandra is basically just the opposite of her character in Netflix's Resident Evil series. So many of the actors in this series play the opposite of what their most known role/roles are and I LOVE IT.
I remember when I was younger, I went to see a small play of Poe's work, and The Tell Tale Heart was the one that stuck with me all these years. This was one of my personal fave epis.
I absolutely adore this show and your reactions are fire! You briefly mentioned Madeline and Roderick's relationship in a prior video - they definitely have vibes, imo. All these episodes are great, but I enjoy the later ones more because current Madeline (Mary, Queen!) gets to play a bigger role as there are fewer and fewer characters left. It actually inspired me to write again. Only slightly abashed fan fic writer here. The Verna/Madeline ship, both young and current, has blown up. I love it, but that ship hasn't inspired me yet.
This whole series is complete perfection, it's SO well written and constructed. Real care went into every single part of it. Loving your reactions too. Also, thank you The Simpsons for informing me about The Raven and The Tell Tale Heart!
It's like watching a whole new series watching these reactions with you two. I learn so much, and it shows how much more depth this show has. Love this!!
the murder at rue morge is most likely my fave right now because it gave me genuine chills at the end. Its actually kind of sad that they didn't do The cask of Amantiato as an episode because thats such a good one even though they pretty much told us that someone is buried behind the brick wall in the basment anyway.
My favorite moment of the video: listening to the story told by Cody (the suspense, the tone, it’s all perfect) and I am always at the edge of my seat waiting for his reaction/comment/opinion at the end of the episode Amazing. ❤
This was such an awesome way to modernize this Poe story! It was one of the only ones I remembered from reading it in grade school, so I knew it was coming but had no idea how they were going to do it. Blew my mind!
This was such a fun watch you two. Watching y'all theorize and piece things together. Watching Cody's eyes light up at certain moments. Oooo, I'm so excited for more. This was probably my favourite Flannagan work.
Omg finally early!! Love your vids so much, I always binge watch them ❤️ also, I'm not sure if yous noticed that the ghosts only scare Rod whenever he tries to downplay or shift blame of his hand in certain situations. Kind of puts him back on track and kind of scares him into telling the truth
Basically every episode is so damn good. But this one and Leo's are great to simply watch on their own, I'd say. For the next episode you might not want to retell Goldbug (there are almost no similarities to the story) but instead the story of William Wilson, which is what the episode really is based on (also because that's what Tamerlane's husband is named after).
I have been so hyped for you to watch this episode so that I could finally scream about the final shot to someone who will get it… the EYE. The “vulture eye” that drove the narrator to such madness that he would shine his lantern on it every night until he finally snapped and killed the old man (whom he loved!). The eye was described as milky, filmy, blind but STARING at him... … look at the final frame. OMFG it’s genius.
It just seems like the warnings that Verna gives are rather pointless. She's warning people who are entitled, headstrong, arrogant, and rich, and right at the moment when they're about to get what they *think* that they want. Why would they bother listening to someone they don't even know? Even if Verna was to tell them exactly what would happen, they wouldn't believe her.
It's about giving the last chance to take accountability and mostly a narrative tool for emphasizing how they are the ones who are bringing about the circumstances for their deaths by being so "entitled, headstrong, arrogant" and self-serving. In other words, to hammer in that fact for the audience, whether they already are aware, are semiconscious but cannot really articulate this point in their brains, or if they were completely unaware of this particualr part of the theme. Media & literature do that all the time, it's just a part of storytelling. Good fantastical storytelling is not about the literal consequences so much as trying to convey the points through sensibilities, feelings--you get the deal. So Verna is more reflective/harbinger than a literal cause or pusher of death...most of the time, which also parallels how the raven of the poem is not really the cause of the narrator's death so much as the way we can focus/the poem-poet makes the narrator channel his fears of isolation & madness through. What other time, then, do these people get truly confronted with their wrongs other than when someone points them out, bc they wouldn't listen otherwise, when they are safe and powerful. It's also kinda the reverse of the last rites of the Catholic faith, where a priest prays over a dying person to cleanse them of sin or prepare them to be judged to either heaven or hell. Other than that, Verna's warnings have value in-world by both: 1) creating a sort of teasing function/sense of play for her/them (bc she absolutely knows that these people are pretty much beyond saving from all her years of watching humanity and her/their reasoning of their actions) as cats do with their prey bc it's satisfying to watch people get their comeuppance even if just for their arrogance and hypocrisies bc they are used to getting away with shit and its fun to play w/those who think they are all that AND balance is its own ethical principle PLUS 2) each time she warns them, they also get their sins thrown back at them to discomfit them or purposely get them more scared
I've been waiting for this reaction! I remember having to analyze Tell-Tale Heart in English class and it was such a good read. I also related the man's fear of the old man's eyes to Poe's father issues, like having a father figure that always scrutinize you and watches over you might be what inspired Poe to write this tale. And the fact that this is about Victorine's father issues with Roderick putting so much pressure on her makes me feel so validated with this analysis. Can't wait to see your reaction to the next ones because they get a bit more interesting. Like multiple references are made instead of just retelling one story, stuff like that. Thanks for the reaction, you guys rock!
I could listen to Cody retell horror stories for hours
Same
Sooo good
Each character has a certain color when they're close to their demise.
Perry's was red, Camilles was white, Leo's was yellow, and Vics is orange- which is really interesting to see
Most likely a reference to the rooms in the Mask of the red death
Hey yeah! Tamerlane’s was green and Frederick’s was blue
The colors were there all throughout their scenes -
Perry's clothes, car, phone, the symbol & writing of his club were all red.
Camille's hair, office/home, car & phone were white.

the struggling man bun was the best creative choice for freddy. it adds so much more slime.
Cody is an excellent storyteller. His retelling of the original Poe stories is so good!
This is the Poe story that stuck with me from middle school, and so I knew as soon as Vic fought w her girlfriend what was going to happen, as I imagine most fans did. So when Sergio said “I don’t know what’s happening,” and Cody said “I do,” I was so damn pumped!
In the seven sins motif, Vic is Wrath. She killed her lover out of anger and even succumbed to self-destruction in a violent fashion in despair.
Okay, but can we just have story time with Cody? Just like little short videos where Cody reads us a spooky story?
Honestly. My favorite episode. Specifically for the fight between Tamerlane and Billt. She is an amazing actress and Billt really put in his work. But everyone in this episode really played their part so well. And Madeline a FUCKING ICON. She can do no wrong in my eyes.
Credits to Samantha Sloyan and Matt Biedel for their acting skills in that scenes❤
This episode was so sad/crazy and it only gets crazier from here on out!
I would like Vic if she wasn't so corrupt. She has a soul underneath all that Usher. She could have been a good person. The things she did were horrible, but the dying cry of "Daddy" is wrenching.
10:26 Sergio’s scream at getting it right was so satisfying
My favorite part of these reactions have been Cody’s synopsis of Poe’s work & his thoughts about it at the end. 🐦⬛✨ y’all are so cute 🥰!!
You guys are my absolute favorite reactors to the series! I love the narration and visual storytelling of the original Poe works at the end of each episode. Keep it up! 💗
Cody you're great at this storytelling thing. This episode 😱
I was so elated to see Mary McDonnell on screen again! Her lines, delivery, poise, and presence as older Madeline is so fierce!! I was first captivated by her when she played the President on Battle Star Galactica. Her performances are always so hypnotizing!

15:27 amazing detail is the heart on the back of the jacket
This is my favorite Edgar Allen Poe story so it was cool to see how they incorporated it
I love how Cody retells the story ❤. Another great reaction,i just love you guys. Can't wait next episode! Maybe check out The Raven from 2012 with John Cusack . You will love it

IIRC, in the original Poe story, Roderick mentions that the Usher family tree doesn’t branch out much. 👀
This whole series is complete perfection, it's SO well written and constructed. Real care went into every single part of it. Loving your reactions too.
Also, thank you The Simpsons for informing me about The Raven and The Tell Tale Heart!
Another great reaction! I'm also gonna need a Cody Storytime segment more often 😂❤

0:00 sounded like you were repeating my name over and over hahah
Absolutely one of my favorites this story got me into Poe's works!!!
Found you guys looking for horror reviews and haven't missed a video yet. Love you guys so much, love your energy ❤
I immediately grabbed my ipad and put my air pods on so I can watch! Loving
My favorite moment of the video: listening to the story told by Cody (the suspense, the tone, it’s all perfect) and I am always at the edge of my seat waiting for his reaction/comment/opinion at the end of the episode Amazing. ❤
I sooo look forward to cody telling the stories at the end omg he is amazing
For next episode I would recommend also looking at Poe's story William Wilson! Lots of similarities there
I love any/all of you guys reactions but I’m living for these house of usher reactions
This was such an awesome way to modernize this Poe story! It was one of the only ones I remembered from reading it in grade school, so I knew it was coming but had no idea how they were going to do it. Blew my mind!
This is my favorite channel these days 🖤
You called it Sergio
This was such a fun watch you two. Watching y'all theorize and piece things together. Watching Cody's eyes light up at certain moments. Oooo, I'm so excited for more. This was probably my favourite Flannagan work.
This series really is so good.
The dead scenes are all so dark and I love it!
Tell Tail Heart and the Raven were both referenced in early episodes of the Simpsons
Yaaaaay it's here, I've been waiting excitedly
Watching the horror husbands is my favourite part of the day
Listening to Cody explain the stories made me go to Kindle and buy the complete works of Edgar Allen Poe for a buck.
Basically every episode is so damn good. But this one and Leo's are great to simply watch on their own, I'd say.

Black cat and this episode are two of my favorite so far
Another awesone reaction from you two. Love you guys!
Ok, someone please confirm or deny for me: in every scene, even the ones NOT with Victorine, have the sound playing....like very subtly.
I think so cause i swear at certain points, I heard it. or maybe that's how Mike wanted us to feel like going crazy with her
I loved this episode guys

Makes me want to reread Poe.
Lenore is the best of the ushers
🎬❤

I'd make a deal with death
If it means I get to kiss Carla Gugino 😍
yall should watch marvel yall will probably will liked the doctor strange multiverse of madness
