I own both versions of the Lorus Titanium field watches in my collection. Both are great and so comfortable on the wrist. I am ex RAF and these watches are perfect for wear at any time in the field. I have a couple of more expensive field watches but the Lorus is my go to watch every time and are totally reliable. Thanks for your review.
My companion watch in the outdoors is my trusted Citizen Royal Marine commando Titanium super tough. Its a superb watch with a titanium case with sapphire glass and 300 mtr water resistance. When folk ask me if I have one of those "fancy" outdoor watches I show them this and tell them that this is all the "fancy" I need, it tells the time and its waterproof! Its all I need in the outdoors.
I had the Seiko Kinetic version of this watch - very similar looks, but with Seiko’s ‘automatic’ kinetic movement, a full lumed face, and a matt stainless steel case. Also had a drab green fabric strap. A lovely looking watch, and one of good quality. Unfortunately the capacitor failed, meaning that it wouldn’t charge, and the cost of replacement was more than the watch was worth, so I bought my first fully automatic watch, a Seiko 5. This was a springboard into a now long-standing interest in automatic watches, which has seen me buy a Hamilton, an Orient, a couple of Chinese autos, and this year, Tudor Black Bay 36. Ultimately I’d like a 36mm Explorer - but I’ll always remember my Seiko military as the the first ‘proper’ watch I owned. Thanks for the informative video - I’ve been quite tempted by the Lorus recently, but I tend to use my Seiko 5, which I’ve owned for nearly 20 years, as my ‘beater’ watch - it’s always utterly dependable!
Lorus has proved itself to me as an excellent functional watch with reliability. I have had one of these Titanium watches for absolutely Donkeys years and worn it almost every day in that time. Never missed a beat. I purchased a new one for my son’s birthday and so impressed with his I purchased one myself the following week. Fantastic watch and budget isn’t always a bad thing.
Good day Ash. I watch your video as I wear my Seiko SNK809... Not nearly as rugged as the Lorus, but a legend in its own right, and one I plan to always own. I can't help but love the aesthetics of a simple field watch. I'm enjoying your videos from Oak Lodge! Take care, Ben.
Great looking watch. Budget watch which is very universal. People need to buy watches like this, not monstrosities what we can see on wrists of many people.
Excellent review of an excellent watch. Had mine for four years, new battery fitted this week, 24/7 wear and it has bloody well been hammered! With no problems! Bought from some website, advertised at £69.99, discounted to £44.95, then 10% discount code. Arrived with £50 Virgin Wines voucher!!!! Still available with a different product code. Buy with confidence. Another may come yet!
good review. I have this model with a black face. at least 26yrs old & still my daily. the watch is so slim it disappears on the wrist as you say. going to get a Cyclops for the date window as I too am of an age where I squint to read it even with glasses on.
Great review. I would agree totally. Especially the size and weight. I like the feel and heft of a stainless steel watch, but when I know I’m going to be active and busy doing chores I appreciate the light weight of titanium. Everyone needs a good solid field watch. It’s like putting an old friend on your wrist who may not have the fancy name or flair, but is rock solid dependable. Good job as always.
Mine has worn smooth, leaving no trace of the original matte finish. Mine has never let me down. Your model designation has been superseded by the newer RG877CX9, indicative of a change of movement to a later version. Now about £70.
I have this watch myself, tremendous field watch. I paid £24.99, fantastic spec especially for so little cost. And that lume 😮👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Great review again friend 👍🏻
Good morning Ash, great to have another video from Oak Lodge. Really like this in depth long run review of your Lorus watch. The Bond-themed NATO-strap is a good match for this field watch. Best regards!
Another quality video. I own a sekonda 3347 which is reminiscent of a G10 watch. I added a genuine (was in my stuff box) NATO strap. It is virtually identical to your Lorus. It has though, a black face and the date is at 6 O'clock, 43mm case and is a mere 50m water resistant. I shall be wearing it in the Field this coming weekend. I would remain faithful to my 25 year old Casio, but it needs a new casing and it's not as readable as an analogue.
Hello Ash. I'm a bit of a field watch guy too. You might find the Citizen model: BM8180-03E of interest. Argos have them in stock but the price does seem to be rising...
Great review, at watch collector you should look at the Citizen promaster NY serie it was used by the Italian navy more over than 10 years, the IT navy have tested this 200m water resistant to 500m and it was a great succes and they also make this promaster in super titanium how by citizen
Excellent review, Ash. It’s great to see a practical inexpensive watch be great because it’s a practical inexpensive watch. I love horological masterpieces but, sometimes you just can’t beat a Seiko or a Casio when you’re going somewhere you’d dare not tread with a Swiss piece.
Great advice Ash. Nice watch and looks good for its age. Love the Bond strap. I have one as well. My field watch is the Orient defender. Blue face with blue and black stripe NATO strap. Seiko also makes a inexpensive field watch in the Seiko 5. And it's an automatic so no battery. Cheers Ron
Unfortunately, Lorus has no market presence in the USA. This watch is made in the same spirit as my Citizen BM8180-03E, which is about the same size, same WR, quartz driven, but solar powered, and comes with a black dial. IMO, the lume on the Citizen bests the Lorus by a fair margin, although the case is not TI, but stainless steel. I am a big fan of the Citizen Eco-Drive watches. These are the ultimate set it and forget it analog display watches.
May have to look into that watch 👀 viewers may be interested in Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical, RAF inspired field watch, have had it for a few months now and same as the Lorus zero scratches on the crystal. Thankyou for the video Ash !
Ash very interesting I have a similar CWC military issued watch made in UK omega rail master is marketed as an engineers watch due to its anti magnetic capabilities (now more common place)
I have a CWC also, great watch with an authentic military heritage, I believe they still supply specialist watches to the military. It is a British company but the watches are Swiss made.
It looks like the current Titanium field watch is a slight redesign, which would explain the different model number as well. They've put a numeral at the 3 o'clock position which is partially cut off by the date window, and the text now says "10 BAR" rather than "WATER 100m RESIST" as yours does. Also, are the minute and hour hands DLC coated on yours, or are they black-polished as the seconds hand appears to be?
Had to get one after watching your review. Have the lumibrite version probably as long as yours and never let me down. Swapped out the nylon strap for leather and have done the same with the titanium. Perfect size for my slim wrist although I can't read the date anymore. Will probably outlive me too 🤣
Ash, you’re a dangerous man, first I’m on the look out in Wiltshire for a vintage Crombie jacket and now will be looking for a Lorus field watch. I hope you get to do a meet up near Bath somewhen. Keep up the good work sir 🫡
Hi Ash, good morning. Thanks for the review. I’m not that in to fieldwatches, but I like this one. The Bond Nato really compliments it. If I’m goong to buy a field watch-like watch, it would be a Hamilton Khaki. Have nice day, cheers!
@@folksurvival ha ha ha 🤣 yes with those exceptions my funny friend 🤣 I also changed the strap to a mesh one when the original one got tatty. You can shove the Rolex where the sun doesn’t shine 😂 I would rather spend the money on something else than on some fancy nonsense 😂
@@matthewrix2164 I changed mine to a brown leather strap after the first week or two. I might try a rubber strap next. The battery just died after 2 years so I need to put a new one in. It's amazingly accurate for such a cheap and basic watch and a great size and weight.
Hi Ash from Bromley. I watched your video last night while I was wearing my Lorus vintage ana digi watch. Lorus is actually a very good make and good prices. I’ve looked to see if this one on your video is available but it’s very difficult to get hold off. Have seen a similar lumineight one with a more of a greenish dial for 19.99 at Argos. I’m very tempted to get it although it’s not the quite the same but similar and price you paid for 15 years ago. Love your channel. Have a good day!
The lumibrite version is a great choice also. It has a day/date window but has a stainless steel case instead of Titanium. There is a Titanium case version of it under the brand name Alba which is produced for the Asian Market so is also very difficult to find. Alba is still a Seiko but a budget brand of Seiko the same as Lorus. I purchased the Lumibrite Lorus from Argos around 3 years ago for £25 and it also is a very good dependable field watch with similar dimensions to the Lorus Titanium field watches.
I just bought it for 80€ and like it allot for freetime and casual office 👍 Edit: 4 months in, I find myself wearing it as my primary watch in my free time 😄 I believe if you like a honest, unpretentious and solid watch, you will like this one 👍 (For work I chose a radio controlled and a little fancier one, because very accurate time is important in my job and I commute by train :) )
Hi Ash great review. One question is the watch waterproof after you replace the batteries 🔋. Thanks Anthony and I’ve given you a thumbs up, well deserved.
Professional watch repairers always restore the water resistance in the watch after changing the battery. They smear the rubber ring under the back with liquid silicone.
The prices have risen because of sale and demand for this watch on the market today unfortunately. But you can get them cheaper perhaps online if you search around. All watch brands have done the same like Seiko, Casio and some of the other major brands. The more popular the watch becomes the more profit they can make from the purchasers who want one.

I bought a Lorus Sports watch last year from Argos, £30. Use it while fishing, ideal for outside use. The strap is the same as your original one.
