  • Chris Arpin shows the new 2022 Createx Wicked Flair Colors, which are color-shifting pearl flakes that work well over a black base such as 6002 AutoBorne Sealer Black, and may also be mixed with candy2o to create Sparklescent - Candy Colors. Also included is a brief introduction new 4053 UVLS High Gloss Clear, Createx 's glossiest top-coat clear that creates brilliance and depth when applied over pearlescent, metallic and pearl-flake colors such as Wicked Flair Colors.

    First I'd like to say great video (as always)! I wanted to say I really liked the vids where you did a candy match to the 'other' brand paints. I an trying to do some 'real fire' Lavallee style and need to match his colors but would like to stay water based. So thanks for those vids!
    Now to the reason I posted, in my mind I'm seeing you and Mr. Fraser teaming up and you guys do some flames using these as background with some candy highlights or sort of ghost flames. Years ago when they first came out with what they called fiip-flop pearls, I always wanted to do a white flip-flop pearl background with candy flames where the candy would be close match to the flipped colors! Knowing how much encyclopedia painting knowledge you and Craig have I'm sure you guys could create a really fantastic flair + candy paint job. I may just have to give it a go myself. Thanks again for all the great videos!

    slightly off topic - I am new to airbrushing and I have a quick question. When spraying these flair colors am I supposed to be cleaning out my airbrush in between coats? You recommend 15 minute dry time between the 4 coats but from what I have read, you are supposed to clean the airbrush right after painting? Sorry for the noob/dumb question

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Год назад +1

      Clean the airbrush in-between colors so as to rinse the previous color from the airbrush, 4011 Reducer, 5618 Cleaner and water works well for this. When done painting, thoroughly clean the airbrush using soap & water, and perhaps 4008 Restorer to remove any dried paint that won't come off with hot, soapy water. Thank you.

    I've done electric guitar painting with nitrocellulose lacquer, including one with a color shift color layer over black, with a lacquer high gloss top coat. With nitro, level sanding followed up by polishing with successively finer polishing compounds is required to get a factory-type mirror finish. In the color shift products what products would I need to get the same results as with lacquer? Is level sanding and polishing required to get the mirror finish? I thought I heard you say you used a 1.3 mm tip. That's pretty small. Is there any risk of clogging due to the flakes? Also, what kind of sanding sealer would I need to use? I currently use vinyl (lacquer) sealer. What is your equivalent product? Lacquer is relatively inexpensive, and I haven't looked at your pricing, so would using your products be cost-effective for a guitar body? I know over time lacquer can yellow, crack, and shrink. Do your products have the same characteristics. I've asked a lot of questions, but to do a guitar with your products I need to know each step of the process of cradle-to-grave finishing. Enjoyed learning a little about your products. They look very nice.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 года назад +1

      Createx paints are water-based acrylic and acrylic-urethane paints and coatings, and do not have the yellowing, shrinking and other defective coating properties associated with nitrocellulose lacquers. The best way to understand how to use Createx paints is to start with our Hard Surface Application Guide, available at www.creatextech.com, as well as watch our Hard Surface Basics Video, ruclips.net/video/CYhmtwp4tnw/видео.html, where starting with AutoBorne Sealer, a sandable sealer-primer is covered, www.autoborne.com. • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 года назад +1

      Yes, 4053 High Gloss Clear will work well as a a top-coat for guitar refinishing. Best gloss finish will be achieved by applying 2 clear sessions, each 3 coats with dry-sanding with 800-grit sandpaper in between. 4053 will air dry fairly glossy; polish for a super high gloss finish. Thank you.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Год назад

      Yes, so long as 5092 Latex Adhesion Promoter is applied first as the adhesive coating, Wicked Colors can be applied over that. Better yet, in addition to starting with an adhesion coating of 5092, also mix it ~ 10% per volume to the Wicked colors to improve their flexibility a bit. Thin only with 4011 Reducer. Thank you.

      Different compared to applying over a black base. Try a test panel with a few different base colors. Try applying W454 Blue/ Violet or W455 Blue / Magenta over W382 Wicked Pearl Electric Blue or W383 Pearl Electric Purple. Thank you.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 года назад

      Thanks! We're excited about new 4053 high gloss Clear. For use on a helmet, think if its given 2 clear sessions, that will bring out the highest gloss level. Dry sanding the first coats of clear 600-800 grit sandpaper dry (then cleaning with a solvent-based degreaser) would work best to create a glossy, smooth finish suitable for a helmet.

      No, 4053 High Gloss is a top-coat clear only, similar to 4051 Satin and 4052 Matte. Only 4050 Gloss is to be used as an adhesion promoter, inter-coat clear and carrier-medium for candy2o. Thank you.

    • @CreatexColors

      We've not used Flair Colors over a silver or Quicksilver base yet, but will eventually try. We think it's going to be underwhelming (as were old Gem Chameleon AA Colors over a silver base). We're more excited about mixing Flair Colors with candy2o, and applying that over Quicksilver and Gold Chrome, each of which will have varying values that will effect the final candy finish by applying Quicksilver/ Gold Chrome over either new Wicked W017 Gloss White or W018 Gloss Black. Thank you.

      I know the 4050 can so it should work for 4053. Haven’t tested though.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 года назад +2

      Yes, 4053 can be sanded and polished. We recommend dry sanding with 800-grit, and polish with buffer speed a bit lower (~ 1500 RPM). Its best to wait at least 4 hours air drying at 70 deg. F 50% humidity , or longer, before sanding / polishing. Wet sanding it not recommended, at least not without a few test panels first. UVLS Clears can be "damp-sanded", that is wet sanded without letting water pool on the clear. Wet sanding a water-based clear is akin to using the reducer of a 2k solvent-based clear to wet-sand it after it dries for only 4 hours, not a good idea. 4053 glosses up beautifully, and if applied in 2-sessions, about 3 coats each, its surprisingly durable. Thank you.
