Just finished it in one sitting! Adorable character designs and the offbeat humour is so good. It's just a two edged sword that the series is an OVA, if it was longer I'd get to really know the characters more, but something this short means that the animation is top notch and there's really little flaws to talk about plot and writing wise.

I whish master Kenichi Sonoda could work a continuation of this and Bubblegum Crisis.....I miss his characters designs so badly in today's modern blant style of characters designs in anime, that just not have that unforgettable charisma these characters had.
This series has quickly become my favorite manga/anime hands down, it's so damn good!! From the classic style to the great characters (Rally Vincent is peak fiction) and the explosive action, you just can't beat this. Thank you Kenichi Sonoda!
it's so clearly animated and edited to end at 1:18 my hypothesis: they made it thinking "it's an OVA, we can make the OP however long we want" and then at the last minute someone was like "oh shit but on the off-chance that we might get it licensed on TV, it can't sell with an OP under 1:30!" and they scrambled to re-cut and re-color the animation they had to fill the time
Hahaa, exactly my opinion! It's a shame, it really ruins the flow of the opening. If not for those awkward extra seconds this could be in a top ten openings of all time!
To be fair, I've seen anime OPs longer than 1:30(Tales of the Abyss Karma clocks at mindblowing 2:10(!) ) and shorter than 1 minute.(Himegoto, Parasyte), so ending at 1:18 would've still work.
Cowboy bebop gets a lot of credit for their opening. But this is just as good, and predates it by a good margin. Plus, it's girls with guns, which beats a guy with a gun any day, in my book. ^-^
If you think THIS show is cool (well, ok, it IS :)), then I've got good news for you => Check out this little thing called Bubblegum Crisis (just go for the original serie, skip the sequels). It has FIVE girls with guns. Oh wait, it's made by the same guy (Kenichi Sonoda). No wonder it's cool :D
@@TheStarbane You are talking to an OG anime fan. I was in an anime club when the BBC OVA's were being made. We paid quite the price premium to get the Japanese laserdiscs fro Japan. I totally love that show, mainly because you can see it was hand animated, for all the quality, there are little tells, that make it obvious that this was all hand drawn. Plus, i liked all the sequels too. Bubble gum crash, and the later BBC 2040 weren't all that bad. Not as good as the originals, but what can you say. The 80's were the golden age of Japanese Anime, and i love that era so much.
They would have botched and censored the shit out of these series. Just Mai being a lolita fucking around was bad enough when this manga was being drawn. Imagine now with all the shit going on around with offended people left and right.

Read the comic. More violent, more sexual, more fleshed out, though it had potential for more interesting things to tell. Worth a read.
