13:10. Absolutely one of the best payoff lines. Ever. The deathless way Mama says "I get your drift, Eunice. Welcome to the club." I think the audience was kinda blown away by that line. I know it caught me off guard. Vicki Lawrence's delivery was perfection. Wow.

The top of young Eunice's outfit......hilarious......no discomfort in her bra showing through, yet maintaining her respectable Southern lady charm. ....

This isn't Mama's Family. This is a scene from the Carol Burnett show from the mid-1970s. Mama's Family didn't appear as a regular TV series until the 1980s.
The scene with Mama and Carl starting at 10:13 is BRILLIANT! The fact that she walks in and is looking down towards him indicates what position he is in, and it so seamless that you don't actually realize how ridiculously HILARIOUS it is! I'm not sure they could do that today without overdoing the subtlety of it. And Eunice at the end "I HOPE SO". Marcy Miller, it’s part of the warm-up that’s done at the beginning of every show performed in front of a live audience. What’s nice is that she did a candid Q&A as part of her show and they often included it in the broadcast.

The toxic dysfunction of "The Family" was so well done and disturbing. I loved how honest the writing was with these characters. Even with Eunice's extreme craziness you realize she was made that way due to her toxic mother/Mama. Let's not forget her sister Ellen who along with her mother tortured Eunice. She married Ed just to get away from the family.
@@shepherdboy9692 you may think you know what you're talking about but children are the victims of the prison they are born into and can't escape from until they find a way. Read about the childhoods of Serial killers and the mental torture they endured for decades at the hands of neurotic, sick parents. Abusive fathers and overprotective, seductive mothers are what cause boys to grow up without a heterosexual identity and end up homosexual...its not inborn. I'm quite sure Eunice would have done anything to get away from her obviously deranged and verbally abusive parents.
@@shepherdboy9692 I was a practicing counselor for years and have dedicated my life to searching out all the causes of male Homosexuality. And the evidence bares out not only my conclusion but the conclusion of hundreds of psychologists and psychiatrists going back a hundred years or more have found that the correlation between abusive or absent fathers and overprotective mothers are staggering. The male child has no core male identity to draw from. He generally idolizes his mother and patterns many of his ideals and actions after her, his sisters, grandmother etc. Usually bullied and rejected by his peers. It's nothing of his own choosing and the eventual reconciliation of his condition comes with great inner turmoil and anguish and thoughts of suicide. The evidence bares out my conclusion whether it lines up with your mental construct of how you think what homosexual condition occurs. There are of course anomalies of homosexuality that can't be explained, obviously, in my studies I have never found a homosexual male thet came from an All-American home and family where there was not some severe Neurosis or dysfunction in the family Dynamics.
Ron Willis So you think Eunice is the only abused one? How about mama? Her life might have been just as bad. In fact if you watched the series you would know mama’s mother was also very controlling. So both mama and Eunice are in fact the same.

These three women women of comedy. I remember when Carol Burnett first did A Sketch on the Gary Moore show. It was called The Princess and the pea. And as a child I never forgot. She was terrific and still is since the day I seen her. God bless Carol a long time fan🌹
Was just talking about Carol Burnett wirh a friend. I was born in 75, i dont remember when The Carol Burnett show went off air.. I however remember watching her with my mother. They really do not have comedy as great as this anymore. Everything now is PC . I dont think we could get away with a lot of stuff today..God i miss the old days lol. Anyway Carol was the master of those one liners. She was a natural. Noone alive today like her
@@tomservo56954 ya my parents were young in the 70s and i think they said minimum wage was around 1.75. So you basically had to work an hour to buy a burger if it cost 2 bucks. Some burgers now cost minimum wage today. So looks like times havent changed
I just loved how bittersweet the Mama's Family skits were on the Carol Burnett show. This one was one of my favorites. The humiliated look Eunice gives as her father angrily shouts from the bathroom is priceless.
The aspect of this show that I really love is the fact that Carol Burnett her company reflected upon reality. These skits were excellently done. I am sure that there were and are a lot of families just like the Harpers! If you can find it, there was another skit I remember where Carol played a woman preparing to leave her husband--and put her feelings into a song. Unfortunately, she ended up staying.
ok.. this isn't from Mama's Family.. that's a total separate tv show... This particular scene is from the Carol Burnett Show from the mid 1970s. Mama's Family didn't appear on TV until the 80s.
@@vwgolf6487 Indeed! When I was a boy in the 1970s, our family never missed the CBS (ha!), and if one of us was in the kitchen or bathroom when one of the Family sketches started, the rest of us would yell 'It's Eunice!', and the absent member would come running. That, Nora Desmond and Mrs Wiggins were our favorite parts of the show.
Mama family was the only reason I watch the Carol B show! Carol and Vickie and Harvey made a combination together! I could watch this all day! I wish Carol and Harvey could have been on the sitcom Mama Family, just was not the same without them
It really wasn't the same but I thought the sitcom was still great especially with the edition of Iola. I just wish Harvey and Carol had been apart of the show plus I hated that they made Naomi a dumb blonde.
I actually liked how they changed Mama's character slightly so that even though she was gruff, it was obvious that she cared about her kids and grandkids.
Both Carole & Harvey did not want to impose on Mama's Family & decided to step back after appearing on a few episodes in seasons 1 & 2! Vicki said she was nervous & worried that she couldn't do the show without them, but Harvey told her you'll be just fine. I myself would have liked both of them to have appeared maybe once a season at least, but they knew what was best. Eunice & mama is one of my favorite characters of all time! ❤️
@@bpomeroy3.... Thank you for that comment. I'm glad someone else had some common sense. She never said who she was pregnant with. Just implied she got married after she got pregnant.
And it actually makes sense when you think about it --- Ellen conceived out of wedlock, grew up and never made the mistake Mama made. Eunice, on the other hand, conceived in marriage made the same mistake Mama made.
I know how Eunice feels meeting that one person who finally respects you and being drunk on it…. And then it all turns to hell and blows up in your face. It’s happened to me too
I loved how Carol would talk to the audience before the show. And how she honored her grandmother.

I can remember watching this with Mom all the time...Fun memories 💗💗
Thank You for giving us this gem! I don't recall this one, it's hysterical!!
This was the Carol Burnett Show NOT Mama’s Family. I used to LOVE this show, I would watch it all the time with my mother. ❤️
Me too
Oh great as I have never seen this one!! Always love Eunice and Mama Harper!
This is my first time, too, and we watched the show all the time!
Beautiful dress during the introduction👍
D Smith ~ Yes, Bob Mackie designed some fabulous outfits for Carol!
@@tannawannavannabittannawan7138 Cher and Diana Ross.
D Smith Yes, it was gorgeous, as were so many of her dresses. I think Bob Macklemore is the BEST designer ever!
I typed Mackie and it printed Macklemore, go figure.
Lisa Vennefron I have the same difficulty, Good ole auto correct it gets you everytime.
THEE Absolute Best. Don't make'em like this anymore. Love me some Carol Burnett.
Noone alive today like her
Right I am 34 years old and I love Mama's Family and I love the Carol Burnett Show.
I love it how do they keep from laughing I would crack up.😂😂😂😂
Gods2ndFavoriteBassPlyr me too
Ditto
I'm still stuck on the $2 Chinese dinner...😂😂😂
Well its an old show. Back in the day minimum wage was 1.75
More like $9.00 today
The Chinese dinner
@@erk44 In the 70's when that aired...remember, this skit is presumably a look back 20 years or so earlier, so $2 went a lot further.
@@tomservo56954 ya my parents were young in the 70s and i think they said minimum wage was around 1.75. So you basically had to work an hour to buy a burger if it cost 2 bucks. Some burgers now cost minimum wage today. So looks like times havent changed
"Well welcome to the club" LMAO!!!
Mama's Family and Carol Burnett deserved every Award and Recognition they received over the years.
I just loved how bittersweet the Mama's Family skits were on the Carol Burnett show. This one was one of my favorites. The humiliated look Eunice gives as her father angrily shouts from the bathroom is priceless.
This is the closest you ever come to meeting Carl Harper, but it's enough to make you feel sorry for him.
"well I ain't trying to play tic tac toe !"
I loved Carol Brunett I never missed it in my teens. That was real comedy and TV. I miss it.
Same here.
Carol honestly does resemble my mother. God rest her soul....
I’m so weak.... I’m from Alabama and baby I swear this how people here talk and act 😂😂😂😂🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣
I love and miss THIS SHOW!!
I loved this even when I was a little kid.. Im so glad I found it now!!
I just love these skits of Mama's family. Classic
I love Mamas Family! Watched the four hour block of episodes last night on Logo:) It always bothered me that Ellen looked older than Mama.
ok.. this isn't from Mama's Family.. that's a total separate tv show... This particular scene is from the Carol Burnett Show from the mid 1970s. Mama's Family didn't appear on TV until the 80s.
The skits that Mama's Family spun off from...
This is not from Mama's Family. It is one of the Family sketches from the Carol Burnett Show, long before Mama's Family was ever born or thought of.
While MAMA'S FAMILY was a good show in its own right, these skits from C.B.'s show demonstrate how important Eunice was to the "family."
@@vwgolf6487 Indeed! When I was a boy in the 1970s, our family never missed the CBS (ha!), and if one of us was in the kitchen or bathroom when one of the Family sketches started, the rest of us would yell 'It's Eunice!', and the absent member would come running. That, Nora Desmond and Mrs Wiggins were our favorite parts of the show.
this is where it came from and is much better.
Yes. Mamas house was totally different on mamas family.
did you know about the Acme Hardware in one of these episodes? lol JK
Soooo funny, Mama was hot, pissed & ready from the time Ed & Eunice got there.....
From the Carol burnett show to mama's family... Carl was always in the bathroom lolssss!!
I believe he died there too lol
@@sgardner4735 yep lolssss
@@sgardner4735 "Mama, you didn't tell me Daddy died in the bathroom"
I think, on Mama's Family, that was VInt's voice as Carl in the bathroom LOL.
Eunices hair is classic alone lol
Mama family was the only reason I watch the Carol B show! Carol and Vickie and Harvey made a combination together! I could watch this all day! I wish Carol and Harvey could have been on the sitcom Mama Family, just was not the same without them
It really wasn't the same but I thought the sitcom was still great especially with the edition of Iola. I just wish Harvey and Carol had been apart of the show plus I hated that they made Naomi a dumb blonde.
carol and Harvey made several appearances on mama's family season 1 & 2
They were supposed to be but Carol found out her (real life) husband was cheating on her. She said she would never be on that show again.... very sad!
Do those curtains look like the ones she wore in "Went With The Wind " ? Lol !!
They sure do! I'm ashamed I didn't notice that.
Yup, they are 😂
They do, just noticed it
Lonna Hunter - they sure do look like it / lol
Great show and Vicki Lawrence as Mama.
CLASSIC TIMELESS COMEDY NOTHING TODAY CAN COMPARE 😍
The green curtains in the background look like the ones in the Gone With The Wind skit😊
Probably were. You know they probably recycled all their props. But, good catch, I didn't even notice it.
Get out that door or I'll knock you threw it
😂😂😂 Pure classic tv.
Welcome to the club Eunice ... priceless 🤣😅😂
Welcome to The Club.... Good old Mama, lol
Contradicted thematically later when they introduced older sister Ellen, played by Betty White. ;)
One of her best lines, ever!
@@jaymesguy239 Well, Mama could've been pregnant with Ellen.
I’ve always felt sad for Eunice.
Me, too. Its amazing how Carol could make her so hilarious, but, you felt sorry for her at the same time.
That the way my mom did me but mama is nicer to her daughter
@@deborahmcclain9906 I relate too & my mom's name was Thelma.
My mother was Eunice.
....I haven't seen this one. Thanks so much for sharing! 😉👍
I know how Eunice feels meeting that one person who finally respects you and being drunk on it…. And then it all turns to hell and blows up in your face. It’s happened to me too
Me too. 😟
