On the PCB below each motor connector there is the silk screen labels for motor1~motor8, to the left of each label is a three pin header: VBB VMn HV - You place a jumper from the center pin to VBB for board power or HV for Motor HV power. That is how you select the power for the motors, with no jumpers: Motor Power terminal= HV = HVIN = VM : Power terminal = VBB = DCIN = VIN (after a diode) - It's all there buried in the schematic and manual.
My Manta 8/CB1 is awesome! As I mentioned elsewhere thanks again for the Klipper recommendation as now it's on my Delta and helping to salvage my Tronxy X5SA 400 pro haha!
100% agree with everything you said. I slapped a M8P and CB1 and made my wires and setup SUPER easy. Plus on smaller builds it takes up much less room.
I did get klipper running on a nanopi neo. I'm running two instances (2 printers). There is only one USB connector but a hub works fine. They are super cheap quad core 64 bit arm SBCs and relatively small. The big benefit is availability vs raspberry pi.
I am really excited to see it, and I will eventually be getting a CB1 to upgrade my Flsun SuperRacer to klipper to see if I can eventually get to speeds as good as the v400. By the way, absolutely love your channel and have considered building a Rook myself! Perhaps I will with an M4P board running it!

I am also an SR owner looking to add Klipper. this looks like a great upgrade. Although I am able to run my SR at a standard of 200mm/s and my Turbo profile at 300mm/s, 'after a lot of tuning'. The main reason I want to upgrade though is to use input shaping, closed loop stepper drives and run a 48v System. It's nice to see a board that can support all my needs. You mentioned that they are now selling accelerometers the plug into usb, do you have a link?
Agreed with BTT needed to improve the wiring diagrams and documentation. I cannot tell where to set the jumpers for the motor power.

I installed the Manta M4P on a Ender 3 Pro with mainsail and klipper.
Works great!
Now I need to hide the board and the cables somewhere.
KLIPPER VIDEO SUGGESTION: You mention wanting to do some Klipper videos. I'm building a 180. from the discord, I learned it is possible to run Klipper on a no longer used Android. I've tried Octo4a, but many complain the installation has a bug results in the installation reporting CORRUPT. There are some SSH guides for putty to fix this issue sometimes. The best videos show klipper running on a phone unfortunately are in Japanese and relatively short. If you could show getting Mainsail running on an Android, that would be very valuable. Most people have access to a free, older phone they don't use anymore. It has a pretty good web cam, its fast enough and has enough memory, and you get WiFi and a touchscreen. A great option until Pis get cheap again.
maybe on day I will, I think it's a complicated process and doesn't work for every setup
I used the manta 8 on my voron2.4, I did my first quad gantry level yesterday after losing a lot of time getting the probe to work. I had to put a jumper on the pull up pins which the documentation said wasn't necessary for NPN

That's perfect. I really hate the external raspberry pi solution. Why won't they just integrate the cpu with the main board? well aparently they can. This looks great and cheap too. I have to save this for my next printer

yes it does
Would love to see the wiring details, especially the closed loop stepper motors.... are you also using external drivers on those?
the closed loop steppers come with their own wires and stepper adapters. The stepper drivers are on the back of the motor. For Klipper you don't specify any TMC settings as everything is handled by the driver on that back of the motor.
Im struggling with wiring here, Trying to fit one to my Ender 5 plus. Proper head scratching mode.
it can be daunting, I recommend joining my discord first then taking it slow and plugging in one thing at a time. Everything should have a spot to plug in
I can with the m8p blanket resume a print if the power goes out??
that is in software and Klipper does not have that, the best option is to get a UPS and run the printer off that
What about canbus? With the rise of canbus toolhead boards a native canbus interface like on duet, octopus and skr 3 boards is there the need to use a CAN hat or a USB to CAN converter like a u2c. The octopus and skr 3 have a rj 11/12 port as canbus interface, but since this is a rj45/ethernet port my thoughts are that it hasn't native CANbus support
yes you are correct you would need a u2c converter for this
Unfortunately i still have frequent disconnect issues with mine. Works great besides the constant ui troubles. I didn't get the heat sink but i do rub a fan while it's working. 67c standard temp 45c with fan on 30%load
are you running the latest linux image? that have added fixes for wifi
I bought m8ps for my v2.4s and m4ps for my v0.1s and sidewinder x1s. I haven't been hooking up 24v motor power and haven't noticed any issues by not using it but perhaps now I will hook up the terminals and see if there is a difference. I am however having weird network issues when rebooting the CB1 the first time after install (eth/wifi) interface just coming back up.
are you using the latest CB1 image for Bigtree?
@@Rolohaun i was wondering if you have The cad/stl files available for the simplecore using the belts driven Z axis. I looked on github and only see the 3 lead screw varient.
What about Bed Power, I see you don't have Bed Power supplied from the PSU?
Only Bed out, unless you are using a MOSFET or something

@@Rolohaun I see, you have gotten further than me so far, I can't get the MCU to communicate over Canbus, with USB to CAN Bridge, I verified my CAN cable is OK, continuity over V- V+ direct from 24v PSU and the Low. High data lines are also good. I can access SSH over the terminal and Klipper OS is installed and I can open the web portal, the board is powered by the PSU at this point.
I also verified with the EBB42 connected to the Can Cable has continuity by placing the probe ends on Neg Pos of the EBB42 from the back of the socket and it has some resistance but low resistance.
So it is indeed going thru the PSU back to the board.
I do have another question one I have been unable to find information about.
The Manta M8P has voltage LED lights adjacent to the power terminals in the corner (v1.1+ Boards) they represent 12v 5v& 3.3v
I am presuming they are all supposed to be green when the correct power is supplied,. however, my 3.3v LED is Red when the board is powered by PSU.
3.3v is the logic line according to the user manual, I don't know if it is normal to be red or if should be green like the other two.
My PSU is a Meanwell RSP-500 24v
They replaced my early cb1 board that had trouble with wifi
So, a nice board with its biggest flaw being that there is room for improvement on the documentation.
That’s interesting that you needed to power the steppers, I’m running 6 motors without it powered and never had an issue.
Did you just make a couple of jumper wires and connect the board power to motor power since it’s coming of the same terminals on the PSU?
yes I just pigtailed them from the board input
@@Rolohaun As far as I know, there is jumper connecting board power to stepper power, already connected from factory. In case you want to use separate/different voltage PSU for steppers, this jumper needs to be removed.
@@adameichler is there any documentation on this? I know fystec does that but I did not see any jumpers on this board
@@Rolohaun it in the Manta-M8P/BIGTREETECH MANTA M8P V1.0&V1.1 User Manual.pdf document on bigtreetech/Manta-M8P github, in the pinout section. I thought itone jumper but it is not, there is separate jumper for each stepper, between the driver slot and the stepper cable connector (HV, VM, VBB in the pinout image)-
The only bad thing about having the CM style mount to board is that it's not going to do easy control of multiple printers. I do like using my rPi4 and multiple printers.
you can use USB out on the manta board the CM1 should be find controlling some more printers

Btt has always had horrible documentation and qc. If you know what you're doing and are prepared to send something back once in a while they are great.
I have had good luck with their hardware but ya documentation is lacking. Fystec is the winner there
Successor to octopus pro?
I think the Manta is basically a octopus pro with the CB1 / CM4 connector which I prefer for having a clean all in one Klipper setup
1 stepper short of being able to run a voron 2.4 with ercf
Add a toolhead canbus board with an on board extruder stepper that'll free up a slot and simplify your wiring at the same time

yes they do
