Very interesting as I recently bought a bike with the updated Float X2 and I was surprised that I could easily set sag without maxing out the air pressure and even put too much air at first, looks like that little negative volume spacer is really on all 2024 shocks helping to reduce pressure in the shock. I had issues running proper sag or maxing out air pressure in the past with that shock
Thanks for the X2 videos. I took out the negative volume spacer while doing a shock service following your other video. The bike feels a lot better in drops and rock gardens.
Dunno, '23 x2 lasted a couple months before aerating on my Firebird, sent it in and received a '24... nearly a full season later, still going strong. Feels great, run rebound faster than prior '23 settings.
Isn't fox like the best of the best suspension? How come the range of adjustability is so Stinking low Compared to rockshox. The Rebound on my X2 performance 2022(The one without Kashima) Does virtually Nothing to the rebound Fully closing and opening Is like Changing 2 Clicks on rockshox. And I only have the Low Speed rebound and Low speed Compression Dials (Only usable with a 3mm key) Up at the piggy bank(And of course the Firm lever) but no Red rebound Wheel. Can someone please explain what the f Is going on
Interesting. I guess that explains why I had to add more air when I installed the 2024 version. I've been screwing with the settings for months on the 2024 and still haven't gotten it to feel as smooth as my 2021 did.
Interesting, I’ve just brought my first ebike and got a 2024 giant reign ex1 , and it’s actually my first X2 . I had watched a few videos on setting these up and couldn’t work out why the guys on the videos at similar weight to me were putting in so much air pressure, compared to what feels right for me , now I know 😂 My previous air shock was a super deluxe , so,maybe it feels ok to me because it’s more like what I’m used to .
I'm not sure what year my X2 is (probably 24, I just bought a new Deviate Claymore) but I have noticed it to be pretty harsh. I may have to try this out.
I will have to take my 24 apart I just got from fox last week replacing my 22. I put the same air pressure on my 24 and my 22 and my sag was the same. Have not hit a trail yet though.
If you don’t like the way it rides you know what to do. I personally fought the new one for a week, tokens, shock wiz, talking to Susoenion tuners, before realizing that foam ring was a negative token. Between Fox’s silent recall and making a drastic change to the shocks air can without notice it was just annoying
I have this shock and I cant get that very slow rebound, thats why I think something is wrong with it, gnna give it to service and its brand new. If I rotate on red screw in any direction I cent get the slow rebound.
I have a 2020 X2 and i struggle to use more than 60% of the travel. No positive airtokens and 30+% sag.. I wonder what to do to make it more compliant for what i do - mostly trail with ocasional tehnical descents
@@OtterMTBtech put the serial number (it was located neat the high speed rebound nob on mine) into Fox’s website and it should tell you. My understanding based on some forum discussions is that the foam ring is a tuning option and not standard across all shocks.
It’s not bad by any means. Could live with it. I have to self support myself myself here so, I traded it for a SuperDeluxe ‘23, then for a X2 then, x2 for sun tour, and now DHx After a couple coils, air shocks are low on list now
This dude really shows you double the o-rings in the 2024 model, yet he thinks a 5% change in pressure is the "real upgrade" to prevent issues? Alrighty.
Fox show it in there video the difference in their Test lab all the Shims they packed into it they said and show so im guessing your saying this is wrong? Its just im looking to click buy on one and been hamging off to find out more on the 2024 shock as said to be a massive improvement on the 2023 model that has all the problems? Don't you just love salespersons 😂
I’m sure it’s all different, gotta read past the marketing, this negative token the video is based around is the feel difference. The ‘24 has 2 rings in the seal head so it’s reliable
I have been watching other teardowns in French on some channels. They have the new cover with seal rings, but I have not seen that nag token in any others, so I am wondering if they just got a rebuild and not a 2024 replacement. But they do have the thicker trunnion and side bleed screw weird! I managed to get one pretty good deal on a brand-new warranty replacement 2024 version the other day from someone. I'm just waiting on it coming! I'm a heavier rider myself. My new Float X on the ID says it has a 0.9 spacer in there, so I am going to try what you said in another vid with the 0.6 to see if it's any better. It doesn't feel like a 6 grand full-suspension just yet, but I was used to coils all my days. Air shocks are new to me, really! Honestly not impressed! But then not set up right yet just the sag but man it's like a hard tail with sus seat post! I grabbed the 24 x2 because of the price I got it for but still on hunt for 205x65 coil! Interested in that jade X you reviewed jsut hate the colour green 😂
This whole video, I was like huh this dude really just wants a coil shock. Low and behold at the end he shows him trading a his fox sus for coil sprung
Found the same things with my new warranty replacement 2024 X2's. Thanks. Had to laugh at the terminology you're using to describe the disassembly of the X2... :)
Rockshox was harsher, which is what he said in the vid. I would concur. While my '23 X2 was out of commission I replaced it with a RS Super Deluxe Ultimate. It was definitely harsher. It was snappier, for sure, but not near as plush.
@@rrolleman4879 I had zeb select+ and ultimate at the back on my previous bike, then sold it and went for another bike that came with fox 38 and x2. Didnt like it to much, no complaints obivously but i just felt rockshox did better on big drops. Then i sold that bike and went for Trek slash that came with zeb ultimate front and back with 3.0 damper and never looked back again. Idk its probably individual thing, but i like rockshox more. Maybe because im 6.8 ft 110 kg. Not sure, but i prefer rockshox. Heard good things about vivid, might try. But had tried öhlings coil shock on my friends bike and honestly i think coil trumps any airshock. I heard that coils are better, but i was pretty dam surprized how good it was.
Nothing is quieter and jumps better than ‘23 Rockshox’s. As long as your cool with no small bump and arm pump. Fox is plush bucket goodness, but as this ‘24 X2 comes out, goes to show less small bump compliance (smaller negative chamber) is more reliable. Fox just quietly copies Rockshox and doesn’t tell you about it Grip X damper next month!!

If your happy leave it 😎
I really hope Fox Dialed does a reaction video to this.
Me too 😎
Will never happen. Fox can’t handle any criticism. They just assume that everything they do is the best by far.
They all do it from bigger to smaller SRAM, 5dev...etc etc

Had an 22(?) X2 in a frame, it was one of the worst shocks I have used. Flipped over to a Cane Creek Kitsuma, instantly better feel without fine tune.
Interesting. I guess that explains why I had to add more air when I installed the 2024 version. I've been screwing with the settings for months on the 2024 and still haven't gotten it to feel as smooth as my 2021 did.

The 2021+ 230 eye to eye shock has always had a negative volume spacer inside it. You are comparing apples and oranges with a 205 and 230 shock.
Does removing that negative air volume reducer void the warranty?
I don’t know
Doubtful!! Can be specced by frame mfg with or without
It will void it if you make it obvious you were in there.
After removing the spacer, do you still like the 1st gen x2 more for downhill performance? I'm deciding between the reliable oldie or the '24.
It’s been so long since gen 1 I don’t know
Love your videos bro
🥰
I'm not sure what year my X2 is (probably 24, I just bought a new Deviate Claymore) but I have noticed it to be pretty harsh. I may have to try this out.
Let me know if it fixes it. Shock feels like a Superdeluxe as it.

Then it's clearly improperly tuned for your bike.
i bet you could cut the token in half for a bit of compromise
I just got mine back rode once know it clicks every time o compress the shock
Are both those shocks the same tune code? Because one is trunnion and the other standard.
That was just another shock, but whatever Fox sent back has no tune code.

Both warranty shocks returned with the foam ring, same tune codes completely different ride
Have you given up on the Vivid?
💯.
@@OtterMTBtech Why? You said it was the best thing since the invention of the self saucing pudding in your last Vivid video..

My 2024 X2 don't hold is PSI, put 200 but always drop to 160 after a descent.
99% the valve is bad replace it from one at the auto parts store
@OtterMTBtech thanks I will try this, Fox offer me a full rebuild for 200$, but the shock did the problem from the beginning.

? What you mean?
It looks like you just hit the full stroke of your damper on some small flowtrail. Don‘t know if this should be the goal
