Damn, so this is what the storm looked like outside, it really slammed Springfield. As soon as the sirens went off and the lights went out I rushed right into the closet so I didn't even get a chance to look outside during all that, I was afraid one of the trees in our backyard would fall onto our house. But I did watch the thunderstorm clouds come in from my window. Also I live by downtown and it was just a mess in our area as well. Thank you I've been waiting for a video on this to see what I missed.
I'm up in Rochester, we didn't have power for like 6 hours or so if I remember correctly? It was wild. I was outside trying to film it and I didn't know how fast it was coming in, had to run into some random person's garage to stay safe 😭
This is such awesome ASMR. Enjoyed this a lot, just the storm and rain. For me, as a viewer, this is really soothing. I'm sure for the driver it was the opposite!
awesome video! I have been obsessed with storms and tornadoes for a long time, but the last few here in Springfield have been scary. I've never seen it get so dark so fast with this one. I was prepared for it, but it came fast and furious. it rained heavily for a while, then everything went still. the sirens went off and then it hit. 112 mph winds. no power for almost 30 hours. also, sad to see so many people driving around without their lights on
Thanks. I loved watching, no talking and no music. Just the sound of that beautiful rain. Where I'm at its nothing but triple digit weather and no rain of any kind. Been that way a while with no end in sight. yet.
This is my newest "RAIN SOUNDS IN CAR, WHILE DRIVING YOU AROUND SAFELY AS YOU SLEEP" video! I found rain and storm videos a year ago.. changed my life crying 😭 I suffer from insomnia and depression and they help me fall and stay asleep.. or help relax my nerves when having anxiety, panic or manic episodes. It's amazing how the same sounds / situation can have two contradictory purposes. For you, rain and storms are comforting, relaxing. For me, they cause anxiety and fear.
Nice job on getting the lights to go out at the beginning. I'd neverbefore heard the sirens go off, except when they would do the noon tests. Well documented midwest thunder storm.
I was in my bedroom upstairs when the alert came on my phone, went downstairs to the basement with my cat and rode it out. Looked like hell out there. Scarier thru the basement window than in this video. Lights flickered but stayed on. My sister lost power for 5 days, they got it back on the night of the 4th of July. What was funny is when I got in the basement I saw a car drive out of the cul-de-sac next to me and like 2 minutes later I saw it drive back into the cul-de-sac. "Yep, wrong time to leave the house!" 😂. I only lost internet for a few days. Had to read like i was a pilgrim. Just an awful day and horrible afterwards.
I was at work when the sirens went off…. Our facility has a huge generator so we had power; we were fortunate that one of the tornadoes went another direction away from our building; I didn’t know how actually it turned so dark outside…. Wow!!! Thankfully only out of power for 2 days… no deaths reported either 🙌🏾🙏🏾❤️
Thank you for uploading this video. It looks like you put a lot of thought/effort into your recording setup. The sound/video quality is top notch. I keep coming back to hear the thunder because of how well it was recorded (no distortion of any kind). By far one of the best, if not thee best, driving in a thunderstorm video I have seen on RUclips.
I was in the basement with my family and cats. Power went off while the sirens were still going and then it took till the following Thursday to get it back. I don't enjoy camping in my house during the summer, I can now state from experience. You were so close to my neighborhood I thought you were going to drive by a time or 2.
I remember when this storm hit, I was sitting out on our porch hanging out with my brother in law. Started off like a normal rainstorm, and the porch was covered so we figured it'd be fine, then boom, 10 minutes go by, the sky is black and you can barely see 10 feet in front of you. I remember power was out for days, and I heard from some of my friends that some power substations were actually on fire after the storm. Can't confirm that, though. Still, crazy how fast it can go from normal day to wrath of god lmao
I got caught in a storm like this in southwest Iowa last July. The rain was so heavy that cornstalks were toppled over. I couldn't see the road and had to pull over. Luckily I was close to an exit and went to a truck stop.
I remember this storm vividly, I actually still have severe anxiety issues from it. I was out at APL that day, we were just wrapping up with the junior volunteers when the rain hit. We moved inside, and it started to get worse. I was trying to keep one girl from having a panic attack, because she had severe storm anxiety as well. We kept telling her it would be ok, but then the three of us who had our phones on us got the take shelter immediately notification at the same time. We hadn’t realized it was the sirens going off because they were so far away the noise didn’t register. We had to rush 12 kids, all the staff, everyone visiting the shelter, and a bunch of the kids parents into the tiny little laundry room. Someone’s toddler ended up finding his way to me and clinging onto me most of the time in there. The sky outside was green, and then it got dark, just like in the video. The shelter had a backup generator so when the power went out it didn’t stay out, but we were all extremely worried. I remember some of the staff remarking that they’d “be surprised if anything took it down” because of how old the shelter building is and still standing. Thankfully, everyone was okay, but there was so much damage everywhere. A few streets down from me, someone completely lost part of their house. Another person on my street had to cut down this massive tree because it had fallen and damaged the roof, and took a good chunk of siding too. But no one was hurt. We didn’t have power for 3 days, and I know in some places it was 5. Crazy to think that just a few days from now will be the year anniversary of this storm.
Well I can tell you that living in Albuquerque these days, this video is a sight for soar eyes. We haven’t had a real storm of this magnitude in what seems like forever. There were times when we actually did receive these type of storms but I can’t recall when that was. I could watch this video all day. Sure wish we could somehow trade weather systems.
My state capital ravaged and I have family there . Took us forever to reach them because the cell service was knocked out and I live three hours north of there .
I just got off work at Harbor Freight and left the parking lot when it hit. Made it home quickly since I live close by. Fortunate that my house didn't lose power. All other family members lost from for 2-6 days. Not particularly a fun Fourth of July weekend.

It looked like the storm started to abate towards the end, but more towards this video's beginning, the very broad gust belt was still with "us". Even is you were still driving very slowly, the gusts could better organize themselves in more open terrain, so that even on some grades, up or down, you have this depth of gust-piled water exceeding an inch covering most streets. That will form a wedge that forces itself under your tires, so that you almost have to be stopped, to let your tires settle back upon pavement. Otherwise, even at slow speeds you still could stand a good chance of hydro-planing. I noticed vast tracts of respectably deep ponding. Poorly designed vehicles could easily ingest this water into their engines/trannys/differentials/fuel tanks, etc., thus killing the vehicles dead in their tracks. I suppose good mechanics may still revive the vehicles after flushing everything out of the remotest cavities of an engine, gas tank, and tranny, and starting anew with new fluids and fuel. So, the take-home message is a pileup of water where there ought not to be.

Hello! Thank you for your comments. I will answer your questions in reverse order. The way I film is with GoPro cameras attached to the roof of my car. For this video, I had just a single camera, because I attached the camera after the rain already started pouring and I was in a hurry to get rolling. Normally, I'd attach all four of my cameras for multiple angles. The camera has a water-repelling lens, so the beads of water just roll right off the lens. Now, about the sound. Sirens can also go off for 70+ mph winds and very large hail, not just a Tornado Warning. They’re called “Outdoor Warning Sirens” partially for that reason.
Not sure how u were remaining calm that whole time as I would have been freaking out! Ive had bad brontophpbia since I was at least 5 years old and now Im 30 and half Autsitic
The audio was created by me using like 5 different clips. I inserted the siren clip right when the actual sirens started sounding. The original audio was totally unusable, all you could hear was water draining from the microphones; it sounded like someone slurping water through a straw.
Hello, can I use your video to post on social media? I will give credit to the video from your RUclips account, I will only post a few seconds of this video and only add a song to add to the aesthetic feel😊
Saw that one moron blow right through the power-out intersection without coming to s stop. Guess idiot drivers ARE all over the nation. Some storm that was!
Why the fake audio? Adding an audio track that's clearly not recorded while driving around and obviously doesn't match up with the action on screen is disingenuous and unnecessary. It detracts from what is otherwise some pretty beautifully-shot high quality footage.
The soundtrack is suspicious to the actual videos footage. I hear no engine stopping or going, or even the tires rolling, especially on a very wet road. Furthermore, the sirens appear to be stationary even though the vehicle is moving. And inside of any vehicle, the rain doesn't sound like that; and you hear thunder that's not in sink with the lightning. This video should be audio only, and used as sleep relaxation.

The audio was created by me using like 5 different clips. I inserted the siren clip right when the actual sirens started sounding. The original audio was totally unusable, all you could hear was water draining from the microphones; it sounded like someone slurping water through a straw.
@@exploreusacities ahh okay 👍🏼
Kaden 🎉😊
Hello, can I use your video to post on social media? I will give credit to the video from your RUclips account, I will only post a few seconds of this video and only add a song to add to the aesthetic feel😊

Why are you using a recording of a rainstorm vrs the recording from the car?
Had I used the original audio, your comment would have been “why is the audio so horrible? Why are you assaulting my ears like this?”

Man on bike.
There were two very unlucky gentlemen on bikes! This storm came on quick and hard.
Too bad you can't hear the actual storm.

Saw that one moron blow right through the power-out intersection without coming to s stop. Guess idiot drivers ARE all over the nation. Some storm that was!
Yeah it seems like there are lots of people who think that if the power is out at a traffic light that you get to just cruise right through.
Why the fake audio? Adding an audio track that's clearly not recorded while driving around and obviously doesn't match up with the action on screen is disingenuous and unnecessary. It detracts from what is otherwise some pretty beautifully-shot high quality footage.
Because the real audio sounds like a toddler slurping water through a straw.
This video should be audio only, and used as sleep relaxation.
you cracked the case
@@exploreusacities I'm surprised that I didn't get a heart emoji for that.
