  • In this episode Edgehill & Davis discuss childhood trauma and the devastating impact it can have on our emotional, psychological and physical wellbeing. This includes people we are connected with. The episode navigates the healing from trauma, which with the appropriate help and guidance can transform relationships, self esteem, and overall quality of life. What are your thoughts and feelings on the subject? 🤔 Have you had to deal your own childhood trauma, or indeed someone else’s?😔
For deeper insights into health and trauma, check out 'The Myth of Normal' by Gabor Maté and Daniel Maté, ISBN 978-1-78504-271-3. In our opinion It's a transformative read. ♥️

Hi Irwin and D , fantastic podcast thanks so much.
Growing up with an Alcoholic parent from a young age definitely affected my mental health which led to lack of confidence , self worth and depression , anxiety . I developed a drink problem and the problems that come with that.
I got sober years ago but a lot of the above was still there a lot of the time even though I had changed in many positive ways.
I had struggled with relationships a lot because of not feeling good enough to be around the families I was meeting through the ladies I was with .
So i kept living life in a state of anxiety which can cripple you and it led to a serious breakdown from how I felt about myself and if you put booze etc on top of that it's the road to madness .
So by staying sober I found ways of healing myself , 12 step groups , talking therapy , counselling and gaining a few certificates in care environments .This all helped improve my self worth etc and at 73 but young at heart 🙂 i live a very simple life and try not beat myself up as much as i used too.
I have quite extreme highs and lows still, but whether it's genetic etc I try and accept that my state of mind of low or high will pass and that gets me through .
As you guys said it's a moment in your life go with it , talk about it too people you can trust and may have an understanding who I really am.
Thanks a lot lads for what you are doing , it will help do many people for sure 🌟🌟👍

Thankyou guys. This is my speciality subject. I help many people with trauma related and emotional issues. Most of whom have no idea why they are feeling the way they do, or how their presenting symptoms are related to their trauma. It can be the symptoms, which have become so unbearable which can make a person reach out for help.
As you say, many people are blissfully unaware and continue to live their life with these issues, and can wonder why things are not working out, so to speak.
Other people I find are aware, yet are too afraid of facing the trauma and believe they can just lock it away deep down inside.
I believe that most people are absolutely unaware that trauma can manifest its self, if left unresolved as physical symptoms, illness and even disease.
    "Your body keeps the score."
I love Gabore Mate, he's amazing and makes perfect, logical sense!
    Thankyou for sharing guys!
    Nameste. ❤

We love your comments. Good to hear that this is your speciality subject and as a result you are able to help many people, which is great. You are spot on about people being to afraid of facing their trauma, not knowing that this will only perpetuate the pain of it. Gabor Mate' is certainly an expert on this topic. Is there an episode you would like to see being discussed in future?✌❤

I’d always recommend talking therapy/counselling etc. It will always help on some level. You may never forget the trauma but it will certainly help in dealing with it and living with it. X

That is a good point to make Izzy, 'we may never forget the trauma but it will certainly help in dealing with it' How do you cope with yours?

I big shout out to you both for discussing this issue .. so important in our growth, mental awareness, and personal development! I feel that trauma is so underrated as a cause for determining issues in our lives, but now realize the impact that trauma has on our development as human beings. Life seems full of traumatic experiences, and we are all affected, [be it mental or physical] and regardless of severity! From an early age, we can suffer trauma [as far back as being in the womb] - so the journey begins! I see the importance of working on ourselves, which will no doubt better equip us to deal with future trauma, and . This has really opened my eyes to the need for getting support to deal with trauma, but first we must establish what the trauma is? and ask ourselves, "are we ready to talk about?", as D rightly pointed out. We can't change the past, or dwell on the lack of education way back then, but we can educate ourselves NOW - and understand that help is out there!

Thank you for your comments Stuart, this is our intention, to try and bring these meaty topics out for discussion. You are spot on! Trauma is so massively underrated and so undetected. We are glad this has opened your eyes to the need of getting support to deal with your trauma, and by establishing what it is, we can then seek the help and support in order to work on it. Help is definitely out there, it initially starts with a yearing, then we will find it. Studying the book would be a great start, in our opinion.

Thank you for this deep conversation. I recently realized that a traumatic event, which I went through, was still affecting my life and especially my work. opening up with a friend and colleague about it, really helped me to process it. I will check that book too 👍

This is true, I never thought about how childhood trauma manifest itself when you get older until you said it older. I definitely have trauma that still needs dealing but never want to deal with it.

You are not on your own with that revelation V, the vast majority of people aren't either. We hear what you say about never wanting to deal with it, but the only way out of it is to deal with it. And it starts with having these types of conversations about it. I know you've got the strength to do it.
