  • 3 child fatalities in the UK in the last few years by XL American Bullies. The media is going crazy saying these dogs are dangerous and should be banned. But what is the truth?
Today Anneka meets Southend Dog Trainer Adam Spivey to chat about his statement that he put online about the America Bully being the Next Breed to be Banned.
Are all American Bullies dangerous or is this another case of bad breeding and management by individuals and the press getting carried away with sensationalising deaths by Bully breeds instead of reporting ALL dog fatalities.
Can we stop this breed being banned in time? Adam and Anneka have some ideas to share..

A lot of these dogs are deliberately bred from bloodlines known for aggression. You see breeders claim to be ethical, to care about health and temperament and all that, and then you look in their pedigrees and you find names like Kimbo and Legion show up again and again. Kimbo was a repeatedly inbred dog whose offspring killed a number of people, including children, and Legion is his grandson, bred from two of Kimbo's offspring from the same mother. Inbreeding is rife and the results speak for themselves. They are also known for 'flipping' and turning vicious without warning, having appeared to be placid for months or years.

Yes and they're direct descendants of the bull hunting breed the Americans (as in the continent) made, when the UK was breeding the staffy to be a companion dog, the Americans were making a killer and even more aggressive killer. This is why they go for the neck and head, that's what they were bred to do with bulls.
These clowns who try to argue all dogs are equally as dangerous should be put before a a very angry XL bully and a ver very angry Jack Russell, see which one they want to approach. I suspect it'll be the little aggressive dog that may get some cracking bites in, but is highly unlikely to kill them.

yes, you want to train a civilization that has rape, murder, theft as to how to work with difficult dogs. I think humans need to be socialized as to how to get on with other humans before we allow us to own any deadly weapon, even a dog. That being said, do you see the skull? I was told that dogs with compressed skulls are in constant pain as there is not enough room for the brain. This was told to me by a girl whose mother was attacked two times by her own pitbull, and this is what the vet told her. They had to rehome the dog.

Unless you ban all dogs over a certain size the same thing will just keep happening.

There is a good reason why in the UK the overwhelming overwhelming overwhelming number of attacks onhumans is by XL Bullies rather than labradors.. That reason is XL Bullies have been inbred for violence. Yes, the owners of such a breed are at best naive or morons.. Many know exactly what kind of dog they have acquired and are just thugs.. In anycase the breed must be banned.

We're surrounded by tons of these where I live ALL of them are clearly owned by people who WANT a scary, volatile dog (for intimidation or for dog fighting) - none of them have a 'love for the breed' , they've usually just been arrogant in their own ability and taken on much more than they can handle. The ban will probably be a relief for some of them. I can see both sides of the argument, but if I see a few less of these around as a result of the ban I'll be happy

All that needs to happen is an introduction of licensing for dangerous dog breeds. A professional (such as a vet) will do a home visit and check the facilities are suitable for such a breed and also check the aptitude of the potential owner. It's still essentially a ban on certain dogs because 90% of the current owners wouldn't be given a licence but you haven't ruined the fun for responsible people. We have this system in place for shotgun ownership and it works. Total bans just make the blackmarket production a lot worse because there's no legitimate market setting good standards woth oversight.

Getting adult male dogs from a shelter into a family with young children or toddlers is NOT a good idea, unless the owners and the children are experienced with dogs.... meaning the owners are confident and consistent with cultivating obedience and self control in the dog, while the children know how to respect the dog's personal space and the children obey their parents when told not to engage with the new dog, to mostly ignore him or have supervised time with him, where they call him and give him a treat after he comes and obeys a 'sit' command... all under adult supervision.. no play time or any other engagement with him outside of supervision... it teaches children the boundaries and it teaches the dog his boundaries. It gives him time to understand the family/pack dynamics and time to bond and trust with respect and patient love. Ideally, for new adult dog additions to a family, especially 'hard' breeds, its best if there are either no children, or older children (14yrs onward).

Completely disagree. It's not just about training. If it's all about training and environment then can we train and have big cats as pets and off leed in the streets and just say to people "oh don't worry he's friendly"? No because it's about potential. Same with bears, same with Lions etc These bully breeds have so much power and strength in them that most owners that have them aren't strong enough to control them if they lose control and even the strongest people end up on their arses. It is known that questionable types purchase these dogs because 'oh aggression's cool' or I want a 'guard dog' and legitimately want them to be aggressive because again they think it's cool I'll agree to that. But, I pose this question to the trainer in this video - "If a dog you've personally trained ends up killing another dog completely out of the blue, how would you then defend its behaviour?"

Now I have dogs, I carry protection spray and avoid any large breeds that look capable of killing mine because there are too many idiots out there with these dogs. The dogs themselves are mostly sweet in nature, but the fact that they have the ability to cause severe harm or even kill humans or dogs with minimal effort is why I think they should be banned. Anyone with these dogs appears to be doing it purely for aesthetics, to make money off of breeding, or some other dodgy reason, and I’ve seen far too many dogs be attacked, unprovoked, by these breeds. It’s not fair on the dogs, or other dogs and their owners. There is no need to have a breed like this in your home unless they have a specific job to channel their energy and intellect into, the same as any other working breed.

All dogs are capable of killing. A pack of Dachsunds seriously mauled and killed a woman, there was a case of a pomeranian killing a baby, and most of the small dog cases revolve around children, where little dogs have either killed a baby or seriously injured a child on the hands or face. And it's not like breeding licenses aren't a thing, they definitely are in the US and I'm in a group that is UK-based but shares the platform with the US and many UK members have stated that there are breeders and kenneling licenses where they are.
When it comes down to it, there are just too many cracks in the whole "mandate licensing" thing just like in any system the government tries to enact and enforce. That's why illegal gun purchases, sales, and ownership is still an issue both in the US and the UK. But good breeders can weed out the bad if you tried hard enough. Flood the market with cheaper well-bred dogs, compete with the bad breeder's prices and poor quality with your better quality dogs at a cheaper rate. And training should be made cheaper and more readily available as a necessary service. Not many people are willing to give up youtube training videos that might not be accurate to pay $200-$500 for a dog training class.
Bring down the cost while upping the quality of both the dogs bred and the training they need, flood the market to flush out the bad breeders and trainers, and keep up with where your dogs go. Take it a step further and make a whole separate registry for breeding dogs aside from KC, ACK, CKC, etc. Breeders would need to apply and show health and temperament testing before being approved. Dogs and breeders that do not pass will not get their approval papers to show that their dog is worthy and that they as breeders passed a good breeders test and should not have business done with them.
Piss poor breeders will never go away, but you can make their business pool smaller and less successful. At the end of the day, it is still a form of business with a market. Let's treat it more like a market problem and it will be fixed better than it is now.

I recently watched a special investigation (in Canada I think) about this breed & how the dog shelters did not admit to aggression in order to get the dog adopted. A lot of these abandoned dogs have a history that doesn't follow the dog! So unknowing people with kids are adopting these dogs, trusting that they have no history of aggression. That's a major issue. Here's my opinion: why is it people need to own a dog that was bred to fight & kill other dogs or people ? There are many many other breeds to choose from that wouldn't have as much a potential to kill. And I've see so many videos of these dogs that get loose that attack & kill innocent dogs on a leash. And I've seen videos of these dogs getting loose and attacking innocent people. It's not just bad owners either! They were bred for aggression and anyone with kids that adopts a dog trusting that it's history followed the dog is a recipe for disaster.
Why would one want to own a dog that cannot be trusted with kids left alone? All it takes is one time & your kid can either killed or mauled to the point of not having a face left.
Suggestion: Do a general search on RUclips for dog attacks & see which dogs are attacking innocent dogs leashed & people. Many of these dogs are getting out of fenced in yards, or were being walked by kids or owners too weak to handle them.
This is why the breed should to be banned bc it is impossible to figure out which owner can handle these big, strong dogs or can train it properly. And lots of drug dealers are wanting to own these dogs to protect their house and then end up getting loose & attacking innocents.

Some new owners don't realise that socialisation is a thing, or seem to expect the dog to instinctively know the basic commands.
People need to research as best they can any form of life that they're bringing home, regardless of whether they've had one before, there might be breed traits that were missing from your last labrador. Not all dogs are the same, and a little preperation can go a long way.

    • @troublingleaf
      @troublingleaf Год назад

@@RCRM22 I disagree, most dog owners would be fine with it, but it is true that some would not. I experienced that with my old boxer, some owners would pick up their dogs or cross ditches to escape. Others would come over desperate to meet him. I understand that people want to protect their dog, but if enough people denied socialisation like that, it could create breed problems and stereotypes. That's a very extreme example that is very unlikely, most people don't actually see a breed as a big scary dog, (my first experience of a rottweiler when I was a kid was a guy socialising his dog, and he asked me if I'd interact with it, and he said "that's a 150 pound rottweiler" I replied "no it's not, rottweilers are scary, that's cute it must be a labrador" I wasn't raised around dogs obviously) other owners and another factor you could consider though, their views on amazing breeds like this could affect it getting the chance to meet other dogs and play. however if you are able to simply attend socialisation classes on a regular basis you could prevent their fears becoming a problem in terms of aggressive behaviour.

The issue with this dog is that it's a status dog. Certain people buy it to look 'hard' not because they actually care for the dog. So they wrap them in big chains and rile them up. So the dog becomes anxious or replicates its owner's energy. (and this is ignoring any bad breeding and health problems).
Ban the dog. It won't lead to suffering long term but not banning them will only lead to the EXACT same situation we have with staffies now, which is people who shouldn't have them, having them.

In reference to the 2 recent fatal attacks on a 10 year old child, and a 17 month old little toddler, they should be banned. You can jazz this breed up all you want, but they are basically a Pitbull type of dog. And because of their size they are now the preferred breed of gang members, and dog fighting. The attacks are on the rise from this breed, and I do understand that there are some responsible breeders and owners of this breed, sadly there are many more out there who are far from responsible. The American Bully XL has become popular because of the look and size, and are used to Intimidate. This is a dog that not only bites, but grabs, holds and tears at the flesh. Keep that vision in your mind, cause that's exactly what 2 dogs of this breed did to 2 children. I say ban the breed, before more children are mauled and are killed.

They need to be banned. All of them. People who have studied basic biology know that genotype, phenotype and behaviour are very tightly interlinked. It is practically impossible to keep the physical characteristics of a breed and breed out the behaviours and traits that go with them. It is very famous the russian experiment with the domestication of the silver foxes; for unknown reasons the more domesticated the foxes would become their tails would become more curved with each next generation, something we assume is why ancient breeds which are close to wolves (huskies, malamutes, akitas etc) have curved tails while wolves dont.
I am not saying that bad owners do not have anything to do with the attacks but as with all mammals, behaviour is the product of a combination of factors with genetics being the most important.

Same old same old " it's not the dog, it's the ow". This is so true. Unfortunately this type is sought after by chavvy numskulls with absolutely zero skills to raise a puppy. The topic on LBC with Nick Ferrari a few days ago was this breed. Of course there were a couple of owners who called the show to say how lovely their dogs are. The male caller sounded like a total liability who bought the dog from "a friend and his son who breed them" and when asked why he chose this breed said "for the look and the size"
If a dog does decide to attack another dog or a human being it MUST BE STOPPABLE but these dogs are not. There is no place (imho) for this type of dog in our society. The event that spawned the topic was about 2 of these that attacked a cockatoo being walked on a lead. The dogs were loose and not under the control of the "owner?????" It was said that boiling water was used to get the dogs to stop the attack. The police claimed to be unable to take any action as these dogs were not on the banned list. Had a child been attacked rather than another dog would they have said the same thing? Come on all you have, get a grip and think first.

Adam Spivey speaks of creating regulations for getting permission to own a dog, breed dogs et.c. as if the state knows better than the people it serves and in this video this position is undisputed.
How about if your dog kills someone, you get life in prison for murder? If your dog hurts someone, you get sentenced as if you did that damage? And if you abandon your dog, you are fined whatever it costs for the dogs shelter, food and socialization. You abuse your dog, you get sentenced the same as if you abused your child. People will quickly realize what's up when there are consequences to this bullshit rather than trying to find loopholes in regulations or pass regulations and then again do the same bullshit.
Re banning breeds, I can't see the point. You can create a new breed that is just as or more aggressive by just finding two mutts with those traits.

Bad/no training, dog fighting training, abuse. Any dog no matter the breed would be affected by this. Same as any human who may have been abused, trained to kill , treated less than human, etc, when pushed into a corner, can very likely lash out. They are so powerful that even when on leash, they pull their owners around everywhere. When I see these bull dog or mastiff looking breeds I always move away well in advance. Especially with bulldogs, I don't buy the 'it is the owner and not the breed' claim. DNA plays a big role in their behaviour. This has been proven in the USA where many pitbull owners (XL Bully relative) claimed their 'little angel was the most loving dog ever', until one day it went psycho and killed someone. They are known to suddenly 'snap' like that, yet these so called 'dog experts with influence', keep covering up this fact, and risking the lives of innocent people.
The majority of people who own these breeds are not looking for a 'loving companion', but a weapon to intimidate others with, but will lie to others about their motives.
