Hi Mick. I am also halfway through a DRO installation myself. I kept the number of holes drilled into my machine to only two. DRO's makes life so much easier.
You make everything look so easy very well thought out
Thanks Kimber! Actually I've been thinking and planning this in my head for months. I went through all kinds of designs.
Quite the project. Nice job. I'm hoping to get a DRO on the second South Bend once it's restored.
Great video, I am enjoying following along. I really like the detail you are showing in the video and looking forward to the next part
Thanks Joseph, I appreciate the feedback. Part 2 should be out in a day or two.
Good progress/discussion…KOKO
Thanks Chuck!
Nice job so far Mick. By the way, I'm liking the look of your lathe. Nice and clean and will be looking forward to seeing you throw chips all over it soon!
Thanks!
Good one, Mick. That's a challenging project.
Thanks!
Mick it that is the original paint your little lathe is in remarkable condition. I will be adding the same on the cross slide of both of my lathes but just can't justify one on the longitudinal. A simple indicator will give me the final dimension on length which is usually not that precise. BTW I used the same set up on the X-Yand Z axis of my PM 833T mill. Love it. Have also installed X and Y on my Bridgeport Clone Mill
No, it was repainted by the previous owner. It is in really good shape though.
Looking good Mick.
Thanks Randy! I hope you are far enough north that the hurricane didn't affect you too badly.
Thanks Mick, Yep, only about 1/2" of rain over 3 days.@@MicksWorkshop
I also have an aluminum pallet about the same size as the one you are using. The 1/4X20 holes are all tapped but the 3/8 are just drilled to size and I machined rows of 9/16" slots from the back side and use square head bolts. Sure, saved me a lot of tapping.
Mine has 1/4-20 tapped and 1/4" non-tapped for pins. No other size holes. Although your post made me think that I might drill and tap some holes on the edges, that would allow me to add a "fence" like those on mag chucks, or just fixture from the edges. After all, I do need another project... 🙂
@@MicksWorkshop I have considered putting some pins in mine at various angles including 90 degrees for locating parts. The sky is the limit. I am currently gathering materials to make one of the angle set blocks that Jon from Jon's Workshop made. He is a brilliant man. I always look forward to your videos Mick and am always grateful for the videos you make for all of us to enjoy.
Thank you@@terrycannon570 for the kind words. Yes, Jon is brilliant and does really great work, he is one of the guys that I learn something from every video.
