    I personally filled a tire full of sand (without a tube in it) and ran into an interesting problem... Because I didn't have a valve to put the sand through, I was left with an air "bubble" at the top of the tire. While spinning, this mean the sand could slide around inside the tire. This made for some very interesting feelings, especially when the 'bubble' decided to make a full loop.

    • @CaptainBlueTech
      @CaptainBlueTech 3 года назад +3

      Well Gas type definitely matters when it comes to fields that need high performance or high consistency such as racing and commercial aviation as both of those fields fill their tires with pure nitrogen. But they care mostly about the reduction in water content, increased consistency, and the fact that nitrogen behaves roughly the same at various operating temperatures.
      but it would be nice to see the differences if possible with the other gasses because i'm not sure how stable the volume of them are with a temp increase. unfortunately it would be to unsafe to do the testng on a real race car at temp

      @santhony1978 3 года назад

      You should also take in to consideration that the camera was looking UP, which will make it appear to be bouncing higher than it actually is.

    • @digus
      @digus 3 года назад +1

      @@santhony1978 the first one was definitely angled up a bit- but the the later ones, especially the helium drop were pretty well dead nuts on center height.
      Because the tire is so very close to the scale, parallax error would be pretty minimal from that distance- especially when you consider the camera was a minimum 3-4’ away. I’d be willing to concede a few degrees angle, possibly an inch - but I think its pretty obvious that taking accurate measurements for this video was the last thing on their minds.

    Water is put in tires all the time in farming and construction. Usually you remove the valve body from inside the stem and put it at the height on the rim you want the water to be at. The rest is filled with air so that you can run the tires at a much lower pressure without risking the bead breaking loose.

  • @tommylitchfield3450
    @tommylitchfield3450 3 года назад +1

    You can buy a water hose to schrader valve adapter at a tractor dealership with an air bleeder. There is air in an inner tube, even when deflated, unless you take out the valve and squeeze the tube flat. As you fill the tire with water, the water displaces the air space in the inner tube, so you get a tire full of water and compressed air. You put the valve stem at the top and hit the bleeder and it releases the air that was in the tube before you filled it with water, then you can have a tire FULL of air.

    Would be interesting to know if there is some Gyroscopic effect going on with the water which is why it is making it harder to turn since the water will continue spinning after the wheel slows down.

    Interesting fact a lot of farm tractors have a water and antifreeze mix in rear tires for weight, this increases the towing or pulling power of tractor.

    correction.... slime makes a garden hose to shrader valve connection and yes farmers do it with tractor tires to improve traction

    You know that would be a great practical joke to pull on someone setting up a line like that and make it look like it's an airline when it's in water in it instead

    If your doing it by psi then the pressure is the same...you should do it weight and volume. this will help you company how they really are different.

    You guys should redo this but with both tires on the bicycle for each element. I'e, water, helium, carbon, soda???, carbonation, gallium, etc and actually full on ride them from point a to point b to see how these things are affected
    A)tire rotation
    B)tire movement
    C)extra forces trying to go other places
    D)stopping
    E)is it heavjer or lighter than air
    F)take to a bike shop and see their reactions when you ask them to ride the bikes

    A bicycle tyre full of jell-o might be fun - if you could find a way of getting it in there without destroying the inner tube.

    I would like to see what happens to tires on a car with these items filling the tires, and especially what happens with water. Will the tire stand up to driving? 🙂 Many thanks! Love your shows!

    I feel like PSI (or really, any measurement of pressure) is basically equivalent to a measurement of density when there's a fixed volume of a gas (like in a bike tire). As such, yeah, 45 PSI of gaseous feathers is the same as 45 PSI of gaseous bricks.

    Maybe you could try riding bicycles with tires that are filled with those materials.

    The air ones that had different gases didn't bounce different amounts because the densities needed to get to 45 psi are different in each so you likely had similar weights to get that much pressure.

    Water is not compressible but your rubber tire is stretchy, balances out somewhat.
