  • Cleopatra VII Philopator was the last queen of Ancient Egypt before it was annexed as a province of Rome. Cleopatra VII Philopator lived between circa 69 and 30 BCE and ruled Ancient Egypt as queen between 51 and 30 BCE. She was the last queen of Egypt before it was annexed as a province of Rome, and it’s interesting that she is easily the most famous queen of Egypt even though she was actually mostly Greek as the final ruler of the Hellenistic Ptolemaic Dynasty, a period of rulers that came to power after the death of Alexander the Great when his general Ptolemy I became king of Egypt.
Cleopatra has been remembered as a great beauty, but ancient scholars were far more impressed by her intelligence and charm than her physical attributes. She has continued in history as the most famous Queen of Egypt, but she is more often remembered not as a powerful and intelligent woman in her own right, but as a woman who successfully seduced two of the most powerful men in Rome of her time. When she died, Cleopatra was only 39 years old and had ruled Egypt for 22 of those years, and whilst she held her throne, she maintained a state of balance and harmony in Egypt. Although she was of Macedonian-Greek descent, she is remembered to this day as a symbol of Ancient Egypt, more than any other Egyptian monarch.

Why do you think she is remembered not for her intelligence and skill but for her ability to seduce important men? Let us know what you think!

I am quite confused as to why the question is being raised, especially from WHE. It presumes facts not in evidence, and merely cheapens the channel with more opinions. Yes, there is a supposed origin of lipstick with Cleopatra/sex. If so, what is wrong with that ? And why can't any woman be both intelligent and seductive ? And how are the opinions of the viewers of this video relevant to history ? This is just another silly poll that attempts to generate online activity ... which has been successful.

i wonder what Julius Ceasar would have thought of his adopted son Octavian having Julius' son killed by Octavian's orders. I guess that was the thanks Julius Caesar got for making an adopted son his heir. This dishonable and barbaric act really makes Octavian's worthiness of royalty questionable

It is reported by the Roman Historians that Cleopatra spoke seven languages including Greek (The court language of the Ptolemaic Dynasty), Latin and she was the only Ptolemy to bother to learn Egyptian that was spoken by the people she ruled over.

Kinda biased how certain parts of South-Asia were ignored despite having historical archeological, cultural links with Ancient Greece, particularly Greco-Bactrian kingdom along with evidence of discovered coinage, dress-codes, architecutre, etc., pointing to an early era Greek Kingdom with a touch of hellenistic dress codes.

Cleopatra is remembered more as a beautiful seductress than the intelligent skillful polyglot politician she was because history has traditionally been written by men. It is interesting to survey societal changes in history, changes which have resulted in positives - they have often come, unceremoniously, at the behest of brave women. Then again...there's Margaret Thatcher, Madeleine Albright, Condoleeza Rice, Mao's wife, and assholes like Boebert, MGT, etc, women who represent the worst of human political inititive.

It’s very clear she knew how beautiful she was and how she used her beauty to increase her power and influence. Perhaps that’s the reason she is remembered as a beautiful seductress and not the because “history is written by men” bullshit
