I thoroughly enjoyed how you deconstructed the Juicy Couture ad. I find the unusual amount of butterflies on and around the model presents her as a queen. She can just be and life around her is drawn to her.
To be honest, Nobody can explain this better than you, I’m using this for revision and the explanation would give the highest of marks, please keep the work up and thanks for making this content
Thank you so much for the kind words. I am happy to see this video is proving to be of value to you and others. I do plan to make a return and continue making videos in the near future.
Thank you for the kind words. I am planning to get back into it soon (ish) and the next video will be Part 2 to this one. Stay tuned... (also, great channel name).
i do have a different interpretation about the juicy couture ads. since you mentioned about being high on drug (the eye effect), i assume that juicy couture want to give a suggestion that the perfume gives an effect of "smelling so good that you can imagine being whatever you're including being a royal". tbh the elements used are very tricky. props to the creative team.
I get your point, however, somehow I agree more with professor Lenz. The bottle shaped like an alcoholic drink, constricted pupils, reflect being high and maybe that makes you believe you're whoever you want, a hippie woman or a classy lady It's more convincing and deep for me because alcohol "presented in the perfume bottle" makes you drunk, not the smell of perfume. What's amazing about the ads, especially the good ones, is it's an art and everyone can explain it the way he sees it, and we all get the same message in the end.
@@professorlenz don't mention it please.. Me and my friends are trying to be on the path of creating great ads. And we think one important thing it's to analyze ads. It would be so much appreciated if you could tell me some resources like yourself. Analysing ads. You know i searched a lot on RUclips but i just found handful of good analysis. Thank you so much for your reply 😊
@@mehrdadbanddar I don't know of any specific RUclipsrs who focus solely on analyzing ads, but I have found one way to find analysis videos is to simply type in a commercial that I think is interesting along with the word "analysis". If it's popular enough, you may find some analysis of it. For example, I found an analysis of a commercial I analyze with my students in class: ruclips.net/video/PGZGwU3O_xM/видео.html You might also do an internet search off of RUclips, as more people might be analyzing ads more in print than in video form.
Wow! This is really interesting are you actually a professor? I never really thought of advertising ads. Really eazy for a consumer to understand, I would really love to learn more.
Thank you for the feedback. I created this video for a class I was teaching and am happy to see it is resonating with others. I do plan to get back to making videos in the near future and will definitely explore more advertising.
This was a great video, but I can't help but wonder...was that at the end your personal interpretation of the Juice Couture ad? Or you have information about the company or perhaps read an article about it where the company explained the advertisement? I mean your analysis was very thorough and insightful, but it's also very subjective, maybe other advertisers would see that ad with different lenses? I'm not criticizing here, just wondering :)
Yes, this is my interpretation and I have no inside knowledge of what the creators were thinking when they came up with the ad. I make no claims that my interpretation is "correct" or the only way this ad can be interpreted. You are correct that there are no absolutes in analysis of art, just whether or not you can make connections that seem "plausible". Interpretation is certainly subjective, but some interpretations are more plausible than others based on connections made, logical progression of ideas, etc. Often, artists themselves do not even fully see the connections they are making subconsciously when creating great art.
Wonderfully explained! 👌 I’m just wondering - does that analysis method have a name? I need to analyze sexism in ads for a thesis and am looking for a suitable method. Yours seems perfect, but I wouldn’t know what to name it and how to reference it ☺️
Thank you for the kind words. There is no name for my ad analysis strategies - just laying out the thinking process that has been helpful for me. When it comes to analyzing from a sexism angle, it sounds like you're working within what would be called "Feminist Critical Theory". There are many critical theories that are used as filters to analyze various types of media through, but they're not really so much methods as they are themes.
Thanks for that vision. Hence.. advertisers surely know and use all this "tricks" methodically, designing a scheme composition even before any shot.. means at "juicy couture" : is there anything random left (to the aesthetic casual content) or EVERYTHING was preconceived?
Good question. I doubt everything I note was consciously preconceived. Much could have been at work subconsciously, as is the case with all art. I have known artists who create on pure "instinct" and just have a good sense for thematic unity, but really aren't thinking consciously about it in the process. We can never really know how much was conscious vs subconscious in the creation of that advertisement, but it has a lot of thematic unity that suggests a good deal of preparation and care was involved in its composition.
@@professorlenz interesting answer, and, THAT'S what I thought.. I think THIS IS more an artistic composition and artist HERE have special talent/instinct for such expression.. which is -after all- a wonderful thing to say about juice revolve because that's what it looks like : ART rather than a consumer's-mind-control-weapon.. cheers professor
Sorry, I don't remember. I got it off of a website many years ago when I was looking for interesting ads. The only thing that I remember is that it was a German brand, but I cannot remember the name. So sorry!
