    As Salaamu alaikum shaikh,
Please distinguish for us sadaqa vs. hidiyah - as an American we are taught that sadiqa is a gift, as compared to zakat, which is mandatory... so how is sadiqa different from a gift and
so why is sadaqa unlawful for the prophet , piece on him, but a gift is not unlawful for him/his family ... ?
And may Allah reward you with khair for getting and sharing classical knowledge with us!

Charity is voluntary aid such as money, food or clothes e.t.c which normal given to poor people whose in need while a gift is present given to anyone whether is need or not but it is given out of love and appreciation. Therefore prophet didn't take charity because his priority was his people than himself but he would take a gift because he was a man appreciation and love.
I hope I have answered your question

Dr Yasir Qadhi. I have listened to your lectures and found you very interesting and like the way you present Islam. But today I am a bit disappointed to hear you saying something that I know in fact very well is not true about the Druze faith. The Druze do not drink alcohol and do not worship on Sunday like Christians. Alcohol is completely forbidden and they worship on Thursday evening. And not all Druze Like the Israel’s. Only the one who lives in Israel. I trust when you see this message and check your facts, you correct them. Oh Mohammed Salem. Dr Yasir Qadhi unfortunately did not speak the whole truth about the Druze and may God forgive you and him. Because Allah loves the whole truth. I am not here to defend the Druze but to defend the whole truth as a Muslim. May Allah forgive us all.
