Trolling Umbrella Rigs for Mid November Striped Bass. And another BUTT KICKING!!!

  • In this video I demonstrate how important it is to be versatile when it comes to patterns and pattern recognition.
    I start off fishing bunker schools just because it all looked so fishy. But when that yields nothing we change out the spread to mimic sand eels instead of bunker and push deeper to find different forage.
    The switch worked....we caught well over 30 bass easy.
    This season the slot is one fish per man at 28-38". This day we kept 3 and easily could have kept 1 more for the 4 person limit, but I'm not greedy when it comes to bass.
    Check out the link below for some Reaper Crew Merchandise to help support the diesel fuel, bait, channel, and just cause they're plain cool!!!!

    Thanks for vids. In the process of making my own mojo's wish me luck so far so good. Tie ultra minnow jig for years my freind sells them at some tackle stores. Tight Lines.... Walt

    The bass been feeding on small bait for weeks up north..some nice fish mixed in. They were feeding on peanuts off the hook today. Mostly shorts casting around with swim shad and poppers .a lot of fun on light tackle

  • @Skolmann
    @Skolmann 3 года назад +1

    What rod/reel combos are you trolling the umbrellas with ? They look lighter than what I normally see.

    • @reaperfishingnj8623
      @reaperfishingnj8623  3 года назад +1

      Mostly our tuna chunking combos on this trip. Penn Fathom 40's both 2 and single speed. Also Shimano TLD 20s. I just bought a few new setups for this purpose that I'll go over.

    • @Skolmann
      @Skolmann 3 года назад

      @@reaperfishingnj8623 I use the TLD 20s as my primary reel for Mojos & umbrellas but for some reason in the video the reels looked smaller than a TLD 20 to me 🤷‍♂️. I’ll keep my eye out for the video going over your new setups.

    Do stripers get measured by squeezing the tail tips together?

    • @reaperfishingnj8623
      @reaperfishingnj8623  3 года назад +1

      Pretty sure that's a yes. I try and error on the size of caution though. If close to not being 28 I let them go....and if close to being bigger than 38 I let them go.

    • @reaperfishingnj8623
      @reaperfishingnj8623  3 года назад

      Honestly it varies with conditions. Drop them to the bottom then come up a few cranks. Every now and then find bottom and do the same.

      3-3.5 knots speed. The umbrella rigs are from Niners Lures right here in NJ/NY and the others are from Offshore Bait and Tackle here in Atlantic City made custom

    Probably an unpopular opinion, but I did not find this video very exciting. I'm not knocking that you had a good day - but anyone with a rig consisting of 9-10 hooks is bound to catch something when it's hanging off the stern of a boat. Always found more excitement casting lures to try and catch them, but that's of course just my opinion
