I’ve been to Andamooka because I lived in the mining town for a year. It was stress free because - no heavy traffic, no traffic lights and a great mail service so you can order anything online and have it delivered…and many other reasons. Sure Andamooka is remote but because it’s right near a well serviced mining town it makes it easy for remote living.

    Nope, that’s an serious underestimate of the actual temps out there- I used to live outside Coobers in 1986 at a place called Mirikata that has since been destroyed and I can tell you that back then I saw the temps hit 49 outside. The contrast between day and night temps were wild too depending on the season.
    I love the outback but these days wouldn’t think of it unless the house is at least partially underground, my solar system is massive enough to drive seriously good aircon and I’ve got my own water stored (because Roxby is the reason so many of the old reliable bores and wells are long dead, they’ve had free reign on the Great Artesian basin for over 40 years and are screwing the subterranean water systems for the entire continent). I would not want to be that vulnerable ever again- any disruption out there and there’s no back up. I won’t live anywhere without water and fertile soil anymore, I learned that in the desert.

    This is actually a great idea when you think about it.
    Dying towns will be revitalised with cheaping housing to draw crowds and hopefully with it different professions that generate a community.
    Not to mention this will pull buyer's away from the cities and spread economy more around Australia which is something we need.
    This might just turn the tide on overcrowded expensive housing and jump start the economy and infrastructure boost Australia is sorely missing.
    Should make a series of little towns all around Australia telling a similar story, it will definitely make a difference 👍

The median house price in Tennant Creek is 280K - In Katherine, it's 375K and in the Alice it's almost 500K, I know where I'd rather take my chances when the sun sets. Granted, it's nice to have sewage systems and garbage collection but my mother survived without both for decades.

      It’s not that hard to find that information if you look, like most country towns fuel and food prices are higher, medical services are nurse run and tele-health. The show said that most people are off grid which means you supply your own water/power and you decide your restrictions according to your catchment ability (water tanks are a few grand each). They probably have composting toilets (possibly with a grey water system). They most likely have no internet and they love it, I have lived in an off-grid situation in another state and I enjoyed it but its not for everyone.

    • @SSToor
      @SSToor Год назад +1

      nah, the cost to build a small house is $250k so even if you got free land, no way it’d cost you less than 300k new. The only reason they got it for $50k probs because the person who built it probs took a massive loss when they sold

    • @rubyredjeans
      @rubyredjeans Год назад +1

      @@SSToor There’s a lot of owner built homes there and most of the houses are transportable homes - built in a factory and brought in on a truck. They don’t cost $250 - $300K. The better houses sell for more. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are people living in Andamooka earning six figure salaries as it’s very close to Olympic Dam mine (BHP).

    Well What’s for sale? I live in Bridgetown WA and I’m wanting to sell up for a change ( much needed) any agents keeping an eye out or any locals looking for a Bloke 50 And my beautiful wife 46 let us know. I’m certainly no stranger to remote living and we are good folk. No criminal records. Well nothing I ever got doing. Let me know. 100% where I’d like to live my life buying a claim and doing what I love. $250,000 cash for something comfortable and in the middle of nowhere is just fine.🇦🇺👍❤️
