- Blake Samson is no stranger to getting wild on hardtail mountain bikes, but did you know he also has a passion for Fatbikes!? In this video, he's joined by Neil Donoghue for an afternoon of shredding some HUGE sand dunes, building sketchy jump lines and battling the harsh elements as the pair get wild on their Fatbikes!

Have you ever ridden a Fatbike before? What did you think of it? Let us know down below! 👇
Where exactly is Mr. Paine in all of this?
No, but would love to try one.
Hey! some of us geeks still like fun... I think you guys believe me don't you :)
I've been fat and ridden a bike before does that count?
My first mountainbike was a fatbike. it's totally necessary November-April here.
No, but I would love to try one in sand like this or snow! Probably not the best for commuting in a city though, in fact the other day I saw someone riding one in the city so I yelled at him for his own good!
If I drove through dunes like that where I live people would threaten to burn my house down, and the homes of all my future children.
Lol I could imagine the same in Germany, where you would get fined for doing such things in the dunes. But it seems there is still hope if there are places you can do this :-)
but why? that sand will get blowed to a different shape/place anyway? If the dunes or beaches are common where you live. We have only one dune in our country and its nature reservation, so there it would be problem and it makes sense, but on the shore?
@@PachezZ where I live in Nova Scotia apparently every inch of dune is full of birds nests apparently. According to people who yell at you.
I know where this is, stayed near many times and as far as im aware there are no endangered or listed as rare animals or fauna and is not a conservation area and has massive foot fall there especially in summer. Not sayin I dont completely agree with you otherwise about dunes where there are conservation issues✌
@@PachezZ that's a pretty ignorant question. Beach dunes are fragile AF. If you rip out just a couple of % of the dune grass, the dune will disappear in a week. What they did here is the idiotic, typically english thing to do (sorry GMBN but you should have known better) - drive abroad and then give no eFs about the environment there.
Ride mine all winter and lots at night with lights. More fun than you can imagine! I can’t wait for winter now!
The old Blake on a fat bike videos were some of my favorites! Hope to see more of 'em!
Blake's loyalty to his Canyon Dude is something else -- hell, is this his longest-owned bike, as a sports media man?
Addiction warning (sand riding): tell-tale signs show on Neil. You have been warned. 😂
I recently bought a used and neglected Fatbike and did some proper maintenance on it and now i am just getting into a new perspective om my hobby mountainbiking. Since i am not far from the dutch coastline, i will definitively try out hitting the dunes. Thanks to Blake Samson, you are always inspiring me to du "stupid and fun" things. Absolute inspiration!
GMBN: Always have your own tools, don't be that guy!
Also GMBN: 6:09
We've all forgotten tools before!😅😬
Finally, something about fatbike. GMBN should do more video about fatbike.
I kept watching expecting to see the huge sand dunes. This is just a beach lol.
Fatbike on soft wood paths is like gliding on a rail through nature. So much fun.
This video is going to be featured in every single anti-bike initiative for dunes / beaches from this point on lol
"“I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating - and it gets everywhere.”"
Fatbikes are the bomb! I love all the fatbikes episodes that Blake does, keep them coming! You can't ride a fatty without a smile on your face!
Loving your videos together! Keep it coming!
Thank you! Stay tuned for more! 👀
MBUK did an article similar to this 30 years ago (without the fat bikes). They printed an retraction and apology in the following issue asking people not to ride on them as various ecological groups got in touch to say it was seriously bad for the micro ecosystems. I'm sure Doddy will be able to confirm this.
Probably depending on where and when... I mean that is not too far from Le Touquet where they hold the Enduro Moto race with hundredes of moto riders.
But yes, respect nature everywhere and be especially aware of breeding seasons.
The fatbike has so much untapped potential all over the world if just more people would dare to try them.
So true.
The fact I can only watch this in 360p murdered me
Send the boys to Quebec city during winter carnival in February and get em to do some proper winter fat biking!
That 12:54 shot is awesome... I actually use my fatbike with a bit more tire pressure as all-around all-year bike and its great :) And I love the tire sound on gravel :D
Nice video! I've never ridden my fat bike in sand, just on lots of snow and ice here in Canada. It's almost more fun than mountain biking the rest of the year, almost!
FINALLY RESPECT TO THE FATBIKE. Bought a fattie. What a dream. Stopped driving, added a motor. Now has electrical issue but is my favorite thing to ride around my CITY. PA USA winters are not the best, so fattie was my choice as I biked year round for work. Fuji Wendigo. simple. works. could use front suspension. Thanks also to presenters and all (camera folks, we see you as we whiz by) at GMBN. Bad knees prevent me from getting on a mountain and your POVs provide the thrills without the hospital bills. The martyn E3 wheel special floored me lol what a peach he is. Be well all! DINGALING JERSEY for best comment... lol 🤣🤣🤣seriously... thanks neal and blake. what a display of agility. those things, even the light ones these guys rock, are not light.
Yeah some more fatbike love. Thanks dudes
Ha ha ha 😂 Blake was lucky Neil and the camera man had tools to fix his bike , good video great content keep up the good work lads .
He really was! 😂 Thanks for watching, Dan! We really appreciate the support! 👊
Blake is just such a funny guy 😄
Great video, Guys ! Fat bike is interesting !
I just realized that I always forget my tools at home while I always hang out with my bag...
We need more fatbike stuff!
I’m 70 and just got a kona Wo with studded tires. It is a blast.
I like those kind of videos, same with the velodrome & speedway ones. It's always refreshing to see great riders attempt something different.
Plus with Blake, you know there's always going to be some lunacy involved 😂
Blake now has the video for why you should do your maintenance and carry some tools and why goggles and an open face helmet are a great idea. Seriously though he and Neil looked like they were having a blast whilst being sand blasted. Neil going for his high speed run and tucking in, GMBN you now have a new challenge, speed run on a flat, pedal as hard as you can to a witches hat and tuck in for a streamlined roll over a set distance and challenge the GCN and Auf Deutsch crews, get Anna and Manon in on the action too.
Great video guys, the riding and scenery was awesome.
Definitely have ridden a fat bike, or five. Love ‘em! The most fun!
You do great videos dude! Long time subscriber. 🤘🤘
Can someone please tell me what model fat bikes they are riding?
That looked like fun! Nice when the risk is much less than the reward. When winter hits try some snowy trails with the fatties. Studded tires make a difference if there's any ice.
check your bolts for sure - last weekend I spent all day at bike park wales, realised at end of it my rear axel was undone 😮 its broken the nice hope hub as had room to play etc - expensive error but luckily no crash 🎉
That looked fun!
Great location but dunes are often SSI sites. You should mention protecting the sites and the habitat. In fact, best to stay off.
They'd be arrested here for destruction of the beach grass that prevents the sand from erosion. Total disrespect for the environment.
Need to do a fat biking adventure in the snow. Winter fat biking is awesome.
Sooooo much potential in the sand!!!
Fatbikes are not dead! Thanks for doing this!
Nice 👍🏽 job man
can anyone tell me where did Neil retrieve that multitool from, was it a pocket in the chest strap of his back pack? If so, which brand?
Nice Content for sure🙌. Reminds me of 1996 when we rode Sand Dunes with Dirt BMX on the North Sea Island " Borkum". I think creativity and an open mind is all we Bikers need to have fun. It doesn't have to be the A - line 😉 Some times a simple Sand Dune to the job 👍🤜🤛
Very,very good !!
Grretting from chile! 🇨🇱
Dunkirk! Wow!
I got a fatbike for my daily rides at winter. But also like to do off roading with that.
fantastic video ❤ I've never ridden on the beach 😎 And I've never ridden a fat bike 😃 but it looks very nice !!! I would definitely like to try it sometime 😃😃😃
It's really good fun! Thanks for watching! 🙌
After watching this, I decided not to sell my Canyon Dude anymore. Fat bikes are fun. It's heavy. It's fat. But it gives you happiness.
IT IS ABOUT TIME! Great vid guys…fat biking is different, and often silly, so you did get the full experience here!
Fat bikes can go places other bikes can’t. This means more riding opportunities and more fun! Also, while everyone else in wintry/snowy places is whining about not being able to ride, you can still go shred the trails!
“Bikes are gid” (Rab Wardell RIP)
Whatever the bike whatever the place, they’re fun👍🏽
Fat bikes rock! 🎉
I do some serious fat tire biking here in Colorado in the winter
Haha pretty cool video actually!
One of the gmbn cameras has a spot in it. I’m always trying to clean my screen when I watch these.
I have just made my fatty into a 26/24" mullet fatty rides like a dream
Next episode, ripping epic sand dunes in Dubai :)
Couldn't be arsed
My fatbike is my favourite bike! I do plenty of beach riding in the summer, and beach goers look at me and think 'WTF'?!
This video really shows the point of having a fatbike. You can get off beaten trails and make your own adventure. I'm surprised more people don't ride them.
Where is this ?
I reckon I've raced along that beach, even possibly one of the GCN presenters have raced it too?
Haha sick
The wind changes at low tide here ...
look very fun and enjoy when ride fat bike at the beach like this
I did it a couple of times with mine, beaches are really fun with such a bike
Here we have sand dune parks for power bikes an buggies off road designed electric fat bike heaven, but no riding on the clam beds on ocean beaches
Bad example this time. Dunes are fragile ecosystems. I love mtb but don't spoil it for others by riding areas you shouldn't.
Yes especially the conservation area and areas of special scientific interest... which this is not. Pointless comment
@@shitsammich762 don’t agree as the existence of sand dunes helps protect from erosion from storms, and for the sand dunes to exist, they need to bound together by vegetation, so if the vegetation I’d destroyed, the sand dunes will eventually disappear, and hey presto, inundation from storms.
I use my Fatty all year!! They are the ultimate "Go Anywhere" bike!!!
totally agree, use mine all year round
That's sick that your go-to bike is a fat bike! They can be used for pretty much anything! 👊
Same here. 👍
isnt that tenby?
I want a fat bike now. Im sure the wife will see it as a sensible investment lol
So much fun. Remember, “Buy nice or buy twice”
Nice views, guys! Did you go tubeless? I spotted that the tires are pumped pretty hard. A Fatbike is must be Tubeless with the lightest wheels as possible. Your sponsored tires are pretty heavy as the aluminum rims on Samson's bike. Go to carbon rims and Jumbo Jim tires! Ask the schwalbe for sponsoring!))
Are plus bikes (in between regular and fat) the best of both worlds, or the worst of both? Curious to hear opinions
Not riden a fat bike, but do ride a trek stache: 29 x 3inch tyres on 50mm wide rims 12psi. Can ride most terrain including trail centres, awesome grip and floats over sandy/loose gravel easy. Can't wait to try when it snows!
Own both, but the fat bike is truly all terrain. And for that reason we usually ride the fat bikes in the deserts here. Less impact on the soft trail systems here.
Love my fatty, fair play boys! Blake, where can I get a pair of those pants???
A quite terrible ride in a beach albeit its fun..hehe
.nice one guys..
Hahaha crack up the environmentalist are gonna tear you a new one. I want a fat bike now. Hahaha
Different countries, different laws. In Florida you will get arrested in 10 min if ride sand dunes on a beach, they are all protected
Ha ha, how much drive train wear? 🤣
Funny how you can't say a bad word on social media in the eu, but you can ride over the dune grass...
If it Isn't a conservation area and is not of scientific interest. Shred it👍
Wait. In Neil's van? Blake obviously didn't 'build' quick enough!😆
Video coming soon! 👀😂
@@gmbn sure it is...sure
There's a place in Norlfolk called Wells-next-the-sea that has a forest growing next to the beach. Would LOVE to see you go explore that on the fatties!
Would prefer they didn't, what it doesn't need is dozens of idiots ripping up the dunes and woods, a sure way to get cycling banned around there.
Those fat bikes are very nice!! They're going to require a thorough cleaning after that bike ride in the sand though!
Hopefully a 'Fatty does Dyfi' video is in the editing suite as you were round the corner....
i want a fatbike
Looks like Saunton
3:09 waaau)
Never go riding without glass's.....Ha !!!
Will I be selected for the give away if I can guess the location
We need fatbike packing adventure ride
This whole video would be a literal crime in Florida 😲
Which is very sad, I never thought the land of the free would come to this point
Its only a crime in the uk if its a conservation area. This isnt✌
@@simonm1447 a crime because it’s destruction of a valuable protection from inundation form the ocean due to sea level rise.
Maybe it’s different in France. In the U.S. Northeast, dune protection is serious, particularly with sea rise. You would have faced a big fine and, in some places, bodily harm from residents for the reckless damage to the fragile glass.
Nah it's the same in France in many areas really. I won't lie I was a bit shocked seeing them do this, as cool as it must have been.
I don't know about this particular area, but believe me you can get some big fines further south along the coast in France, that's for sure.
I myself can remember beaches I used to go to as a kid, and having to walk through the dunes for 5-10 minutes and now there's nothing left of them...
But I think the waves, especially during storms we've had over the last few years, don't hit the coast as strong and bad where they filmed as they do further south on the Atlantic coast, so maybe these dunes aren't being monitored as much...
most fun you can have with your pants on... mind you, one could ride without pants too but that is not accepted everywhere..
No so secret anymore Neil.
Hate to be "that guy", but sand dunes are incredibly sensitive habitats that shouldn't be used this way. If this catches on it could be catastrophic.
Yes the areas of scientific interest do have sensitive habitats, this however isnt an area with any sort of conservation status so your comment is pointless✌
@@shitsammich762 If thats Saunton sands (might not be) then there's been loads of conservation done to protect the dunes over the years, so maybe not such a pointless comment.
@@shitsammich762 yeah, but it’s just a bad look to be eroding the dunes like this. They play an important role in protecting land from coastal inundation - if we promote erosion of the dunes, then we promote flooding etc.
@@Cha-wc6uc this is infact an area of coast that grows every year and has for several hundreds of years the dune there are constantly changing and there is also the massive footfall this place also receives every summer (litteraly thousands!) This area is of no particular scientific or conservation interest. Not a good look lol what does that even mean🤦♂️
P.s. replying with yeh but is also a bad look but I dont wanna ban or denigrate you for it. If you wanna worry about summin worry about the habitats being destroyed in other lands for the lie that is "green energy" batteries in those ebikes! And the human suffering that comes with it👍
If you didn’t wanna fat bike before you gonna want one now
Fat bikes are the best 👌
💯🙌
Those fat bikes want a Bafang BBSHD motor.....👍
Hmmm, always mounting dry. That squeeking.
Worst advert for fat bikes ever :D :D :D Redemption at 12:54 great shot and fish and chips did look good.
Coast Are eroding enough without your fatbike advertisement. Be respektful with nature
This bit of coast has be growing for centuries, isn't an area of special scientific interest nor is it a conservation area, they didn't actually advertise where it is so the sheeple masses don't arrive but its perfectly fine to ride here. 👍
@@shitsammich762 yeah, but it will encourage people to ride on any sand dunes. They need our protection.
Nice content as always but IMHO the natural habitat of the fattie is *snow* 😌
Nah, Why limit yourself? Fatties are great everywhere all four seasons.
@@NewMexicoOutside Fair enough. 😌
Is Blake the guy that never brings any gear? After he did that video about not being the person who never brings any gear?
you couldn't climb that in a low gear? loose sand is much more difficult to climb, but when it's packed in from riding you should be able to go right up after fine-tuning your balance for traction-feel. my local spot is fine too climb until the ATVs get at it, after that generally I can only get up maybe halfway. if I've gone down first I can carefully climb the track I made on the way down, but if I go left or right of my track I'm screwed.
As many others here I think it's a stupid idea to show dune riding on a Chanel with lots of following. It's promoting this all over the world and DUNES are or should be protected habitats for many reasons. Sort it out GMBN be are an example to the mtb world and this comes with responsibility. Don't promote doing bad things!
Literally haven’t seen a single other comment about how they shouldn’t be promoting dune riding? Sounds like your just trying to make a problem out of nothing to me.
@@Tom-yc2vc Ik it sounds over the top but sand dune ecosystems are extremely fragile and take hundreds of years to form - sadly they will have trampled a lot of the marram grass and eroded channels into the sand
How comfortable is this bike just riding around on pavement
