Bruh…..plz 🙏🏿 Especially Fred. I know this has been stated many times by many noteworthy artists but should be & will continue to be mentioned….. 90’s male r&b wouldn’t exist w/o Fred Hammond & Commissioned.
When he talked about trendsetters not being able to enjoy the fruits of their labor because they are the sacrificial lambs I felt that. This podcast is more than spotlighting the greats & their stories. It’s ministry. THANK YOU TANK AND J!
Maaaaaaaan dudes like Tank, JV, Eric Dawkins, Kuk Harrell, Adonis Shropshire, James Fauntleroy, Eric Bellinger etc got that vocal producer attribute where they can do EVERYTHING (write, lead, background, top line, produce) and you just slap an artist on top and the song is sonically going to sound AMAZING. Listen to the background vocals of any of those names. Their reference tracks are SCARY!
Holy shit! I'm listening to how The Underdogs came together?! This is why I love this pod. It is HISTORIC! The Underdogs, hands down, have created some of the best R&B to ever exist! I cannot express enough how much you all mean to me! THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!! 🙏🏾
When Commissioned went through the period of transition, Dawkins and Dawkins filled the void for a lot of young people (at the time me) who loved gospel with that contemporary/r and b flavor. Very good group
As much as singers admire and look up to Tank, it’s a beautiful thing seeing the people he looks up to when they’re on the show. Even our heroes have heroes. Great episode.
J. Valentine said it the best….JOE DOES NOT GET MENTIONED ENOUGH!!! He is my TOOOOOPPPP FIVVVVVEEE! 😁 Btw the song Damon Thomas wrote for Brandy “I’m Yours” is still a BOP! 🥰
1. How you gonna act like that - Tyrese 2. Can't wait - Avant 3. I saw your face - Justin Guarini 4. How could you - Mario 5. Up to you - Chris Brown Those are my top 5 Underdogs productions....
If you know anything about music , you know the value and the pure weight that this man holds in the industry period. Eric Dawkins has a sound that you just know.
This episode took me behind the Curtain of the Underdogs and I love that for us! I appreciate the transparency in Eric Dawkins experiences. I loved that he shared the good & when he was hurt. I TRULY loved how J stopped to acknowledge all of the people who were a part of the underdogs BY NAME‼️ #Respect
This was an incredible show. It was almost three hours but it flowed like it was 20 minutes. The brotherhood here, the honesty, and just the knowledge that we got this week. Learning about the Underdogs in this way was so deep. This was a pod that was well done, the Gospel knowledge, the R&B knowledge, and the wealth of storytelling here just makes me more excited for what is to come on this podcast. Thanks again! 💞💞
Did anybody else go and listen to Dawkins & Dawkins Focus album after this interview??? That was us church kids who couldn’t listen to “secular” music goto album. I’m so glad they interviewed Eric Dawkins, he is so important to R&B.
The history and brotherhood between these guys are amazing! The connections are great. And once again life gems ring spoken. The top 5 is going to be outstanding.
Eric Dawkins is a beast! Much respect for referencing the Al Jarreau song "After All". Almost 3 hours felt like a half an hour. Great, informative interview. We need Joe and Brandy on the podcast next!!
I love the way Tank & J treat their guests. If you’re unfamiliar with who someone is, you will certainly have a clearer understanding of their accomplishments by the end of the interview. Love R&B Money. Keep doing your thang!
I'm glad yall finally dived into the real history of The Underdogs and gave credit to those who contributed and are deserving. I had always wondered, based on conversations from the show, that J was 1) a co-founder and 2) worked on many projects under the name, but J's name, let alone all those yall mentioned, are listed as being members. Not even on Wikipedia....smh. S/O to the show for respectfully addressing it, giving people their flowers, making it clear that there is no bad blood and for sharing the history of R&B! Love the show! Another great one fellas!👏🏾👏🏾
Eric Dawkins is a beast. A major player in the music industry. This is another great episode, please keep them coming...You gentlemen are doing the thing.
Paused the interview to listen to “ My Love is Like Wo” by Mya. Knowing Eric vocal produced this makes so much sense! I loved the way she played with the melody. Him being the reason is the icing on top of a banging ass song!!
Commissioned again; they are deserving. I am unsure if they are technically R&B, but Fred Hammond or ANY of them should be a guest here. Their influence on the industry from the 90s and on is unparalleled.
Conversations like this are so revealing, and informative. It's amazing how many hits ya'll are responsible for. These are really apart of the soundtracks of our lives.
Thank you guys for lifting the veil on the business business, like split sheet %, publishing and budgets (actual dollar amounts). Those points are Much appreciated.☮️
I think the most touching part was J thanking them for helping him be a better singer. And thanking them for singing and speaking at his father’s funeral. Moved me to tears. That’s some true brotherhood
R & B Money. That was so fun. I heard of Eric Dawkins, but I didn't know the level of talent. Thank you for putting me on. I'm about to go down the rabbit hole. I'm going in on all his music.
I felt when Eric gave the teddy Riley story… I met him at his birthday party and he walked up to me and called me by my first name and stage name and I was shook! He was like yeah I know you, you’re going to do great things in the industry! That lit my heart, I am definitely silently coming ❤❤
Oh Yeah! And some guys look at me like I'm crazy when I give her flowers. Brandy's ability to craft intricate vocal arrangements sets her apart as an exceptional artist. She skillfully layers her voice, creating lush harmonies and captivating textures within her songs. Her attention to detail in harmonizing and blending vocal parts adds depth and complexity to her music, elevating the overall listening experience.
Man about time y'all got him on here. Never knew him in his Dawkins and Dawkins days. But when I became a fan of the UD in 99 I remember seeing his name all the time. Never got to hear his side of these stories. This was amazing.
The triad music conversation between this brotherhood speaks volumes of their genuine comradery, just absolutely Divine! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 RrrNBee Money is WINNING SOULS! 🙌🏽 Ooooo Yeah! 🎉❤🎉

I love Eric Dawkins he's the goat in so many things. Definitely The favor of God.

I’m a huge fan of The Underdogs. I always said that Eric was to the group as what LaShawn was to Rodney and Fred Jerkins. Thank you so much for this interview with the G.O.A.T, Eric Dawkins!!! I am a fan for life and remember when Dawkins & Dawkins came to my church in the 90s and they were phenomenal then and will forever be so inspiring. I am not surprised of the growth he has outside of the church. God is still please and honored because he is operating in his ultimate gift! “Pray for me “ is still my favorite Dawkins song and is on repeat on all music platforms. I love you all so much!!❤️❤️❤️
That was a beautiful moment at the end with J appreciating Tank and Eric the love of God is what we should show to others always and that was beautiful moment.
I grew up listening to Dawkins & Dawkins music and even had the chance to sing with Anson on the Praise & Worship team at a local church in Washington. Amazing men in general, they so down to earth with conviction about their music. Intentional about their reach also. What I love about them is they be real incognito, don't be flashy at all the events but when they pop back up with new music, they never miss. I don't watch the R&B money podcast much but had to come show some love. Great Interview! #rhythmandpraiseallday lol
another amazing episode J. and Tank!!!!!!!!!! fantastic conversation of brotherhood, love of R&B music and lifelong friendship keep it coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!❤
I’m slowly catching up on all the episodes. This episode was amazing. Mr. Dawkins is such a treasure. The Underdogs were on top of the world for a season. Wow, an incredible ride. I love how they addressed the turmoil with respect, and they are true grown men who still deal with one another. Business can end without brotherhood ending. I love that they always end on positive notes and NO DRAMA in these streets. This podcast is better than most of what is seen on tv. It’s educational, hilarious, flower sprinkling, encouraging, and for the culture.
This interview is strictly for those who admire and are inspired by songwriters and producers. This was a VERY detailed and educational interview and I LOVE IT!!!!! Eric Dawkins is a vocal and musical phenomenon!!!!!! I am so glad that collectively they explained the beginning, height, and demise and end of the Underdogs. I DEFINITIVELY needed to know about it. I really wanted to know what happened to them. Thank you Tank and J for this interview!!!!! 💯💯💯💯💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
