This is so helpful! I am 10 years old and I have started making lures, I am making a popper right now
did you complete it and if so do you catch anything on it
How’d it go
@@xander4043 done, I gave it too my dad
13 my man I’ve made 3 other lures but this is by far the easiest
Can you make a video about it?
Nice
You should try making a lyman lure.
What’s up brother! Just used this video as a guide to make my first lure (although it looked significantly less aesthetic than yours haha). I caught a giant redfish on it the next day. Just wanted to say thank you for the easy to follow video, and to be on the lookout for a video from me in September. I’m gonna give you a shout 🤙🏼
Just a tip for beginners a vice is pretty dang useful
Thanks for the video. Looking forward to more. Looks like you really enjoy doing it!
Great job man. I learn few techniques for aply in making my lures. You make wood-art. Thanks
Great video. Im just getting into this idea of making lures. Thank you for the video for beginners. God Bless 🙏
Nice! I need to try that.
Great video, Thanks!
Great video always love a DIY I thought it was funny how you sanded the popper angle one way and the one on your shirt was the other lol
Very nice job...looks like a very effective popper design !!!
Hope to see the paint session and finished product...👍👍👍
That butteryyyyyy smooth b-roll 👌👌👌
Great stuff brother... every time I tuned in it’s learning time! Thank you!
Miguel Herrera thanks man! More videos in the works!
Dope ass b-roll bro keep it up. Along with the sick lures
Awesome! Thank you!
Great shirt, i love your techniques in this video. So simple but yet so effective! I'm good stuff
You are really good at that outstanding video I learned a lot thinking about getting into it
Just found your channel great video. This reminds me of my dad and I making poppers when I was growing up in hawai'i.We would use wire fishing leader for the hooks we would drill a hole from the front all the way to the back then from the bottom at an angle. Then we would run the wire leader from front to the bottom hole then out through the back.
You did a good job I just got into lure making
Excelente trabalho. Obrigado por compartilhar.
Thank you for making this video
Nice job well done
Hey what gage wire did you use for the eyelets?
Hey bud, I was put on to your channel from a guy on a Facebook page as I had asked a question on how to apply decals. I've watched a few of your videos now and would just like to say that I love your content and your finshed products look awesome.
Cheers fella
Russ
Russwills326 thank you! Means a lot 🙏
Really awesome Video Man ive been thinking about making a topwater for a while , you boosted my confidence. Now I have a general idea how i'd go about doing it thanks man
Right on!
What gauge wire and drill bit size did you use for the eyelets?
Great video. Your stuff has inspired me. I got a little belt sander today. Same one you've got here, I think. LOL And so..... I'm off and running. Gunna get started this week-end. This could be my new thing!! I'll be ready for fishing this spring & summer. Thanks Brother!
Right on! Hoping to get more more lure building videos going soon. It has just been so cold. Soon tho lol
@@BakerBuilds Man - that would be awesome! I'd really love to see more of your ideas, and so I can get this new hobby off the ground, and have a lot of ideas on techniques / styles, etc. And yeah - I know what you mean. It's dang cold out in the garage right now! I'll be doing a lot of this I think - once early spring rolls in. But going to at least try to get started over the next couple weeks. Anyway - thanks again! Super cool.
Muito bom obrigado.
thank you so much wonderful beginner video :)
Thank you for the comment! Means a lot
Awesome
You should show us the test if the lures in water. To see how they perform
Ok.. good job
Nicely done. Don't know about where you live but in Novascotia you can get stainless steel wire (50') for under $5 👍
I like how you offer alternatives to what you’d usually use. Cause I don’t have most of what you mentioned.
Glad to hear! Thank you for the comment, I’ll make sure to keep doing that 👌
All the lures i make i dont use any electrical maskines, just a knife and sandpaper and it turns out great.
So astig lure sir you have made can I get 1 of those.. Salamat po sir... 😊😊😊😊
Thanks sir!
I’ve made lures from broom handle , poppers and jointed lures
I love this one and made a popper, but spray painting it has proven more difficult than I expected.
just do a few light coats haha
To make the gills a triangle file works great less chance getting cut by exacto knife
Love your channel. Any suggestions on airbrushing water based paint over oil based paint? Making sure the water based airbrushing sticks. Thanks
Hey Tim! I haven’t had much experience with doing that on baits or with an airbrush. I know that painting over other oil based paints requires a primer. Possibly scuffing the bait pre water based paint 🤷♂️. Not 100% sure. Sorry about that.
I think I’m gonna get a cheap airbrush kit and some blanks just to kill some time! Obviously I’ve had some of your bait in my hands (for a short moment😂) if I could put out some bait 1/4 as good as you do, I’ll be satisfied ✊🏻
Do it! Super fun
Good job... I like it... Tq for sharing here new friend... Keep it up..
Thank you!
One question? What diamiter or gauge of galvanized wire do you use?
Nice video.
One more subscribed.
Regards from Brazil
;)
Felipe Enokida thank you!
I love your videos. I'm really getting into them. I have learned a lot from you. You build a beautiful lure. I've been fly tying for years and want to started making and painting wood lures. I'm having trouble finding those round wood rods in Balsa or popular. I'm gonna make some frogs out of Balsa, because it's a light wood. I'm also gonna make Bass Poppers and Bream Poppers. I mostly like Fly Fishing so I need light Poppers. Where can I find those round wood rods in Balsa and Popular?? The only round wood rods I can find comes from China. The way shipping is now it would be July before I could get an order from China. Keep up the GREAT work and keep the videos coming. Thanks
They are dowel rods, and you can find them in the lumber section at Lowe’s. I had to ask an employee
chido!
Thanks
What type of wood where you using?
I think your insta and RUclips is great but try adding music😀
For the part where you had the strip of sandpaper could you use a palm sander
Wooow man this sure help me I’m trying it now hope you don’t mind mi sending you the finish product
Hello I’m just starting making my own baits and on my first build I bought wire and when I twist with the drill or by hand it snaps. I was wondering what wire you use
3mm stainless steel
Can you do a challenge where you make a bait without a saw or power tools?
I have never made a wood lure before but just got to the part where you are considering adding weight or not. Did you consider floating the piece of wood prior to drawing your eye and gills? Seems to me that each piece of wood would have a natural heaving side. Float in a small plastic bowl filled with water to see which side naturally rolls to the bottom. Just an idea! Great video. Keep them coming! GP
Nick
How many lbs on the wires??
i’ve used a hole saw to get my block into a dowl shape
What gage wire
Hey @BakerBuilds in one of your tik toks you do use lead in a bait and you have a little dripper to drip drops on lead in the holes, can you explain your lead melting/dripping setup?
Yes! I will have it in a lure building video very soon
Very cool im going to try this thanks
What size dowel rod did you use?
Do you prefer to make your own eyelets rather than the screw in? Is it because of durability or just preference?
I uses both. I like making them since they are cheap to make. But the purchased ones work good too!
Great video, I've not made a lure before as I thought you needed to have wire going through the middle, would I be right in thinking superglued in eyes are strong enough, this model looks good, I might try making one now . Tight Lines
I would recommend using a two part epoxy or something stronger the regular super glue for the line ties. A through wire is probably stronger! However I have never had one glued in like these pull out 👍
many thanks :0))@@BakerBuilds
What thickness is the wire for the eyelets
13:06 - do do 😂
🤦 🤣🤣
nice video
Thank you!
That's really helpful 👍😀and Nice intro
Is there a part 2 to this video?
how big is that wooden dowel?
use paddle bit for holes
How thick is the dowel??
What do I do to weigh it down instead of making it a top water bait?
Landon King led weights work pretty good! Drill a hole and add the weight. Hoping to get a sinking bait video soon!
I am trying to make lures myself but don’t have the equipment so I can’t make them
Could you send me the link so I can look at the spray painting one
Does anyone know the episode where he spray-painted lures
Randy Todd don’t think he released it. It’s not on his channel
What pound galvanized wire do you use?
I use 19 gauge for baits this size 👍
@@BakerBuilds Thank you so much I learned a lot from you
Hello from Japan. I have a question about popper.
Can you tell me the best way of making big water splash?
I will make a tiny popper like a small ball (W×D×H 18mm×18mm×18mm).
I want to know the best shape and size of a popper's mouth.
And please let me know the best position of weight in a popper to make big water splash.
From st.louis mo want to go fishing at Bush wild life
What’s the width of the dowel? I don’t think you mentioned it. Great videos !!
I think this one was 3/4 inch. Within reason, any size should work. Just depends on how big or small of a popper your wanting to make
Baker Builds thanks!!! I went to Harbor and bought a belt sander and got started. Thanks for the inspiration keep the videos coming!
What gauge wire do you use?
hi dude i use 1.25mm stainless for baits this size (50-80mm) on the big 150s i go up to 2mm
Did u ever make the lure painting video with spray paint?
Not yet. I did get the paint for it tho! I’ll get it done soon 🤙
If you want a better popper mouth use a ball burr bit
What do you know😂 first video I click on I find the guy I just watched on tik tok lol
Hi my name is Tyson and I am in the process of creating a marketplace website and app where fishermen such as you and I will be able to sell our homemade bait and lures. Once the site is up and running I'll post the link on my RUclips channel.
collab with Marling Baits!
I decided to chew mine down
Did it work?
I’d just put a Swedish fish on hook
Same
I followed your tik tok
Technically, poplar is a hardwood.
What gauge wire did you use?
Frank - I'm with you..... looking at galvanized wire now, and trying to figure out what I need. I'm thinking of trying some 20G. But just not sure. Might start there - around 20G or 22. ??
Probably .030” stainless steel wire.
1.25 mm stainless
Hey I’m a 12 year old make my own fishing lures would you have any good tips or thing i should do to I’m prove my skills
Christina Siedow best tip I have is to not give up! I have a huge pile of lures that didn't work. So keep at it!
Bore
Ring

Hardwood does not mean its hard, balsa is a hardwood.
What thickness is the wire for the eyelets
