    I was 13 and will remember it forever!! I can see from comments that my age group seem to be selecting it for their funeral! It does always make me smile - I love Dud!!

      I have already selected it (along with always look on the bright side of life) and my family know that I'm (for once) being completely serious about it, and I'm 14. 😂 I have literally made all my family promise

    On this day in 1965 {July 2nd} Peter Cook and Dudley Moore* performed "Goodbye-ee" on the British ITV network television program, 'Ready Steady Go!'...
    At the time the song was at position #36 on the United Kingdom's Official Top 50 Singles chart, four weeks later it would peak at #18 {for 1 week} and it spent ten weeks on the Top 50 chart...
    Peter Edward Cook passed away at the young age of 57 on January 9th, 1995, and Dudley Stuart John Moore died on March 27th, 2002 at the age of 66...
    May they both R.I.P.
    * The following year on April 22nd, 1966 they appeared for a second time on 'Ready Steady Go!'...

    Wow I remember parts of this song, though I didn't know it was Pete & Dud who sang it (well I was all of 3 years old when it came out)! I especially remember the bit - Goodbye goodbye, we're leaving you ski-dlee-dah, goodbye, we wish you fond goodbye fa-ta-ta-ta, fa-ta-ta-ta! LOL. Thanks for bringing back that memory, I haven't heard this in decades!

    Is it just me or is Peter Cook speaking in a Russian accent in this?

    • @RobertSeviour1
      @RobertSeviour1 6 лет назад +1

      Retroman - you are right, Cook or to use his real name 'Petr Gotovit', was after his death revealed to be the previously undetected sixth member of the Cambridge spy ring. Gotovit evaded capture, escaping to the Soviet Union hidden inside a grand piano belonging to the Krasnoyarsk Symphony Orchestra which had played a concert at the Albert Hall.
