We could even go back to Renaissance paintings for an example. Famous painters then pioneered their art and are renown throughout the world long after death because of it, but someone of today is just learning lessons that have been around for a long time. That's why people ignore such skilled individuals when during the golden Era of their skill they'd be appreciated.

I've seen countless videos where people get into fist fights right in front of cops and they only intervene when someone crosses the line. they won't bother you over most minor infractions. On the other hand it's kinda scary how little you can rely on them to protect people in need. They rarely ever stop a crime in progress, and even when they do, half the time they just boot the person off the street with a "move along" order. So you gotta really be prepared to protect yourself there, even if the cops are right next to you. It's not like it's a wild west crime town; but it's not nice knowing the NYPD are so lazy and corrupt.
