- Episode 1: Turtle Terror
This sparkly world is Jazz's first stop in his adventure. Here, Turtles and Bees wander freely over the land.
Jazz Jackrabbit is a series of platform shooters designed by Cliff Bleszinski and developed by Epic MegaGames. The games have humorous undertones, featuring anthropomorphic animal characters alongside firearms and sci-fi elements. The titular character usually traverses a series of stages on his quest to defeat the antagonist, a turtle named Devon Shell.
The first Jazz Jackrabbit game was developed and released by Epic Megagames in 1994 for PCs running DOS. Jazz had to rescue Carrotus princess Eva Earlong, who was kidnapped by his nemesis, Devan Shell. The shareware edition was extremely popular and the game was named Arcade Game of the Year by PC Format.

HOW GOOD IS THE SOUNDTRACK
LEGENDARY
epic games never had bad any soundtracks for what i recall
From the same guy, who gave us the musical nirvana of Unreal Tournament. Literally EPIC.
its very bad
Yes.
I was looking for this game 20 YEARS! Such nostalgia for me, used to play it as kid in school computers, ahh such good times.
same here lol
i played this game in 1997-1999 and i found it only now! the music, childhood, good memories...
Same ! ♥️
Why was this game on school computers? Ours as well.
yeah was rocking! on the white Floppy disk, in 2 parts
This reminds me of my dad. He's been gone 13 years tomorrow. Died Apr 19, 2007. He introduced me to the best stuff- including this game!
R.I.P.
R.I.P
Its amazing how something as mundane and simple like a video game can have a profound experience in your life. God bless you and may He continue to be your comfort with your loss..
I'm sorry, he's resting where? Are you her priest following her wherever she goes and whatever or whoever she loses @Alonso? Did she appoint you to hold her hand everyday? Me don't think so, homie.
This soundtrack is so ingrained that even after 20 years of not hearing this and countless other more important life experiences to remember, i still remember every note
Miss this time so much, good old days, simple days😢
I haven't seen or heard this game in 25 years - yet somehow the memories come flooding back!!
If you want you can check out my channel for more games that you haven't seen since.
Bugs Bunny + Mega Man + Sonic the Hedgehog = Jazz Jackrabbit
Mr. Atari 2600 and mario enemy (the turtle)
It’s Bucky ohare
😎 ooh yeah!
CHILD MEMORIES. AHHHH THE 90S...........
I know how you feel. I finished the shareware version today and I was taken back to 1995, lol
This game was my childhood. Love it
This is my childhood! I always loved the Medivo music so much.
Oh my godd!! I found it!! I’ve been trying to think of this game for years!! 🥺 so much nostalgia 😭😍
Ah, another classic DOS game I played in the mid 90's as a kid!
Had a nostalgia relapse and winded up here.
Same here.
wound*
My god this is a blast from the past! We have come so far now since the 90's, it's almost unbelievable.
This game brings back a lot of memories of my childhood. I don't think I ever played all the episodes of this game. But I do remember the Holiday Hare version as well. Such nostalgia.
I remember the time that I was on the hard level at Tubelectric I guess.. I can't go any higher when I jump so I can't collect the items above. I slept that afternoon and dreamed about reaching the higher area with the items there. When I woke up, I suddenly played it, go to that area and that time, it worked! Such memories..
First game I ever played. Still looks fun!!
Holy crap...such an AMAZING game and soundtrack!
There's something strangely appealing about a bunny with a machine gun. I remember playing this game on my aunt's computer, probably because we didn't have a computer yet at home. I only got to play bits of it, so I never really got very far. It's really cool that I could watch it all here, thanks for posting. This brings back good memories.
This was better than Jazzrabbit 2
This soundtrack was way before its time!!!!!
Played this with my friends back in the day... soo many memories...
this was the first platformer game i played in our first pc. i learned to type in the dos commands when i was 8 or 9 and couldn't wait to get home to finish the game. such nostalgia!
эх!! та самая игра! те самые заставки из ДОСа! Звук! Начальная тема аж мурашки по коже! И это у дяди 40ка лет)
Turning 38 in a couple months...this game brought back so much memories 😎
The amount of nostalgia is heavier than the weight of all other childhood memories. My brother mentioned this game to me, and I remember every single bit of this, even though I haven't played or thought about jazz jackrabbit since over twenty years ago. What a trip!!!
Now i remember why I hated this shit as a 6 year old. Complete torture I always picked Turbo because i thought it was character selection instead of difficulty.
Good memories from this one. I remember how hard it was to activate the sound to make it work (we were kids lol) thanks for the gameplay, still love it to this day.
AnonimATA Well clearly activating the sound was worth it
Okkaayyyyyyy
I was poor as a lad and only had the shareware CD. My father pirated the full game for me.
Lucky you, I got stuck with Shareware ahahah
Ahhh... this game.. It's mybe from the 94, but it sounds so 80s! Epic synth-rock!
...I could never beat the 3-rd planet!
This was my first computer game ever! My grandfather had this running on his windows 3.1 old freakin desktop back in '94
I love it! Such a great gameplay :)
I was somewhere around the kindergarten - first class when I played all those games. it gave me goosebumps to see that beautiful game again, to recognize I remember the songs of the stages and how it made me feel as a kid, how much I actually loved the heroes and those cool monsters as well
I feel so lucky that I had such childhood, to play all those games and to see the best cartoon shows
it's a huge part of how it developed my mind and imagination for the rest of my life
I love how you look back on those times. If you want to hang around with like minded people that grew up in the same era, feel free to join our discord over at Discord.dosgamert.com :)
The animation when you stand on an edge is still too cute ^_^ Great to hear it with music, since back then our PC didn't support it.
I didnt have the Sega Mega Drive, but in those days when my first computer with Pentium had this game, I was excited because I though this game was very similar with Sonic games. I loved it
When bugs bunny met Rambo
Loved the game per se, spent countless hours with it, but the soundtrack is INSANELY GOOD and it will always be in my top 10 of the best video game OST.
One of the first games I ever played! Loved it.
Amazing soundtrack too
I remember playing this like 24 years ago. I loved it. Nostalgic 😢
SCREW YOU SONIC!!! We had Jazz Jack Rabbit ON FREAKIN' PC :D
I used to play this over and over again. Knew where everything was and could complete all the levels on turbo without getting hit once. Even that diamond road I used to roll down it really fast. If only I still had it I reckon I could still get some good speeds runs in. Nostalgia at its best!!
On my channel you can see a live attempt of Simonn who finishes the game (Episode 1-6) sub 30 minutes!
Ah Nostalgia. The studio that would become Epic Games in the current year. 👍
Had forgotten all about this. It is all coming back to me. I spent hours playing this
When I first saw this game not to long ago it didn’t look too familiar, looking at the gameplay now and getting the game… I thought to myself “yeah, I DEFINITELY played this when I was younger.”
This game is so ahead of its time
I remember getting this as a shareware. Wow! Memories.
Epic gamestore should have this.
OMG! I remember playing this game back in pre school when I was only 4! Ahh the memories.
I had this game on my 80386 DX computer with 4MB of ram. I can't remember exactly but it came on 3 or 4 floppy disks. I didn't appreciate the amazing sound at the time but now I do. It didn't use the midi chips on my Sound Blaster but instead mixed samples internally on the 80386 processor and output it through the PCM channel on the Sound Blaster. Quite a feat at the time.
I used to love this game as a kid. Dad set it up on his 486 dx2, he later installed it on a 486 laptop but the LCD display couldn't keep up with Jazz haha
Love the Adds before the Game starts. I'd like to buy a Jazz Jackrabbit Shirt in 2021. However. I loved the Game as a kid. And I was disappointed they made Jazz a Freak in Jazz Jackrabbit 2
Well he is married😊 , they don't make endings like this anymore...
Found it! I used to play this game when I was in high school! wowwwwwww! Pure nostalgia!
My childhood :)
2:33 listen to this part with headphones. Some sick stereo beats for how old this game is!!!
Some of the coolest game music ever!
Ahh yes ... Jazz Jackrabbit.
What Shadow the Hedgehog wanted to be. Loved this game when I was young, right next to Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem 2. :D
One of the very first games I ever played as a kid along with Descent.
I think my dad had the shareware floppy version back in the day.
Good Golly, the nostalgia hit me like Tyson! Every pixel and musical note of this game just came flooding back into my memory even though I was 6 years old the last time I played it (about 11 the last time I played the Christmas....edition?), I'm now about to turn 35. Holy shit!
ETA: NEVER seen that bonus round until now. Boy did ever borrow from Sonic CD with that one!
Epic games now is famous...
More like Infamous
I mean they were always famous, first with Jazz, then Unreal, then Gears of War, then the Unreal Engine, then Fortnite.
Lako Nobody likes fortnite except me
I played it on a 386 black&white laptop, and it was awesome.
My first game on my Pentium when I was 14. Just forgot that it exists and now found it in my news feed.
How did I not notice what a sonic ripoff this was when I was 5
I was just thinking the same thing. Green hill zone followed by chemical plant? Really? Lol
Yep, sonic with guns
@Chaz Starkey Looks exactly like Bucky
Nostalgia. I want this tune as my ringtone!
This really takes me back
I did not know Epic Games made this, really interesting. :)
It's so weird knowing this was made by cliffy B the guy who gave us Gears of War. Talk about humble beginnings.
that moment when you realize that this is a mixed version from Mario and Sonic
:'v
Before there was Unreal, before there was Gears of War, there was Jazz Jackrabbit.
The early quality of Epic Megagames is impressive. I'm guessing that's why they're worth billions now.
EPIC MUSIC OMG
Epic games made this
Please bring this game back it was awesome!
Smooth scrolling like this was seen as illegal on IBM compatibles back then.
Nostalgia, lo juegue de niño. Lo que no recordaba era que la música era tan repetida :) jajajjaj
Woooow just seeing this now wtfffffff ,, the gooood times , duke nukem , commander, keen , doom , jazzjackrabbit
It's like unlocking a memory.
OMG I'm so Old 😂 I remember playing this at 8 year old aksllskaka
"Ow!!" says the green, Rambo-like, cute jackrabbit. This game has a _Donkey Kong Country_ vibe to it.
Oh wow i had no idea cliff bleszinski had a hand in making this game!
Before there was Unreal, Gears of War, or even Fortnite, there was Jazz Jackrabbit.
29:21 Your in the storm, *RUN*
Oh wait, that's still 25 years in the future
Who knew Pizza Tower took heavy inspiration from Jazz Jackrabbit's level & sound design.
graphic and sound are not bad for a game from 1994. 👍
I used to love this and xargon so much. I bought the jazz jacket rabbit cd several years ago and xargon is now completely free. I need to start up dosbox and play again
I played this on PC 486DX2 Cpu in the winter 1995 !! Yaaa I was 14 years
dear oh dear, time flies
Still better graphics than today's games!
I mean, all the music for this game makes me nostalgic. but this ones a BANGER 12:51 Tubelectric
De mis primeros juegos que tuve en mi PC en 1996...
To be noted that the music in the first level is simplified here, the melody is missing.
Also, it came from a land down under...
Yeah I notice this on many videos of jazz jackrabbit. Is this something that happens in the GOG/Steam version?
If so that’s a real shame.
The Netherlands is not down under, that's Australia ;)
Most of the music sounds wrong for some reason.
I used to play this on our 1 gig Acer along with 3D Movie Maker
En esos tiempos debio ser los maximo este juego, espero vuelvan a revivirlo mucho mas emocionante!
You can actually see the Sonic influences 🔵 in this game
Remembering playing the shareware from a cd-rom. Veryy nostalgic. Alone the music is fun. :-)
Jazz is better than Sonic prove me wrong
Sonic and jazz would be really good friends.
This is very similar to Sonic The Hedgehog. I played that game for hundreds of hours until my parents gone crazy 😂
Many years later I still remember the cheat codes to be super Sonic etc. etc.
I played JJR when I was young. Jeez, I loved this game back in the days. It's about time to play this game again after so many years 👍
This game will run on a VM I guess with DOS 6.22 (VirtualBox). I'll try it soon.
Thanks bro!
Wow never heard about that game... but it remembers me:
Superfrog, Teraway Thomas, Ruff 'n' Tumble (well maybe Metal Slug) and a bit of Giana Sisters...
This is epic, and that's a badass bunny. I love badass bunnies.
Wow I can't believe i actually found this game after all these years i couldn't remember the name for so long i remember playing this game on Windows '95 back in the day when i was 4 years old that's crazy how long ago that was considering I'm in my early 30s now.
I bet you would have enjoyed the livestream of this game too. It's on my channel page :)
This actually looks like fun.
It's soo much fun to play!
when getting rapid fire, I thought it was rabbit fire
It's hard to believe that this game was made by the same company that would later make a certain battle royale game that has corrupted the minds of children around the world.
allrighter 04 Epic Games made this?
@@NobuRiona Yes.
allrighter 04 My god, that's terrifying
Horrific
12:53 to 14:45 is an absolute banger
The music is fantastic!
