I first heard this song when I was a kid, way too young to understand it. Here I sit as a young man (about as old as Tim was when they released this record!) who has recovered from an intense attraction to a girl whom I was desperate for but who didn't want me. I told myself that she was the one thing that would make me happy, and from her I wanted all the things that Jon wants in this song. Moral of the story is you gotta know how to stand up yourself, don't rely on anyone else to make you happy. And a personal word of advice: stick close to God, that helps the most.
