I know it’s a drum reaction... but did anyone else notice how sick obscura’s bass player is?
Dude is killin it.
Master of a five stringed fretless. Can't be anything but godlike tunes coming out of that.
duly noticed! haha
Linus Klausensitzer is THE SHIT. He's also in Alkaloid, an equally amazing band with ex-members of Obscura and Necrophagist.
he's sick? _oh noes_
hope it's not covid.

Yes !!!
Had the pleasure of touring with this absolute monster. Every single night was a clinic.
Cameron Åhslund-Glass thanks man!!! ❤️
Hi Dylan
Mike Caputo hahaha hey dude! ❤️
Whelp, now I'll be looking up all the cats in the thread. First I've heard of this drummer, and band but definitely a fan. You toured with them, I'm sure you're awesome as well. Good times!! Buds all shouting each other out saying hi. You're getting drum stalked and I will be practicing all the cools stuff I find😁🥁. Rock on everyone.
Dylan Potts owls and Cameron both know your name
Oh yes! Lanser is a monster. If you want to see his predecessor in Obscura, check out Hannes Grossmann playing Alter Magnitudes from his new band Alkaloid.
YASSSSSSSSS
Grossmann is disgusting!... ly good! his last name is perfect, cause when i watch him, i get stank face and say, "GROSS, MAN!"
THIS!

Damn, thanks for telling me he's good a new album out!
"Oh he's going foot to foot!... ohhh! He's going foot to foot!! (Pauses)..... oh he's going foot to foot."
Hahaha 😅
Jazz Dad: "FWENCH GWIP"
Cav muscles
Hip Fwexor
See I was wondering if this was an ode to Marthyn Jovinovic lolol
cwispy wolls
Mawage is what bwings us togever today
I'm mostly impressed that you identified the foot to foot without seeing his feet...
It's pretty obvious. You immediately hear the different tone/feel of a foot to foot pattern. It's like a different texture.
@@soullessSiIence You can actually see how his legs move, right before foot cam :D
Woobuz yup, look at em knees :)
@@soullessSiIence I could be wrong. But his kick is definitely triggered. So i don't see how you would hear a difference?
@@gearheadproductions3236 timings between the kicks. Single-footed triplets would be slightly off in the middle note, while foot-to-foot would be solid as far as middle-note timings are but would float slightly at the edges. Its miliseconds of difference, but if you really look for it (and are a musician/experienced music listener) you can spot it.
Hope it helps.
Great! You should check his jazz/metal work with Panzerballett, with their "Take five" version.
Hell yeah, I will (hopefully, if corona lets me) see them at the end of the year at Euroblast
No way! Damn Panzerballett... Thanks for reminding me :D
It's gonna be Jazz drummer reacts to Jazz. Total win. ,
Sadly lanser isn't playing with panzerbalett anymore.
@@Metallica09B Gergo Borlai does the job too. And they will also have Marco Minnemann on the next release so it's going to be great anyways.
I understand you want to go minimalist talking I get it, but I like hearing your opinion and I like hearing your expertise on what happened in the video maybe just a little.... a little more talking. Thanks for the upload dude you kick ass !!!!! 🤘click it🤘
Dude I love the stuff he plays, he eats subdivisions and polyrhythms for breakfast, has incredible hand technique (them doubles man), equally awesome foot technique, groovy as hell... Sebastian rules 😂 and so does your reaction 👍
Lanser is a absolute beast. Maybe do more reactions to him. He's one of the best IMO
Sebastian Lanser is a goddamn beast. Seeing Obscura live with him behind the kit is a memory I’ll hang onto until I’m dead. He’s so technically proficient, it’s insane.
So pumped Sebastian Lanser is my favorite drummer at the moment 🤘
Nice use of the fretless bass on this track as well.
YEAH BOI! I put Sebastian in my top 5 all time favourite drummers, he's got a ridiculous amount of control and technical playing ability, not just in metal but playing jazz, funk and fusion. Check his stuff with Panzerballett out, I guarantee it'll blow your mind, especially their version of Take Five.
These guys are incredible, you’re even helping metal heads to find new stuff now 🤘
6:46 Your most profound analysis yet
I think it would be cool if you did a little bit of break down at the end of the video. Similar to your earlier videos.
yes! I want to hear more information about a part that he liked. I learn so much from these videos!!
Agreed, the analysis of the playing on the video by someone with an different perspective to playing was what was originally interesting about these videos. If that is removed it could be whoever reacting to it and adds no value.
Guys cut that man some slack - u can't give an onspott analysis of THIS - it is really sophistcated and complex. No one drummer or not can comprehand this on the fly 😅😉
Damn ya’ll want the sex AND the pillow talk lol
Yeah, it seems lately he treats these as a revenue-generator than real content creation with insights
I've been waiting for someone to do a reaction to Sebastian, whew nice job. He is just so good in every way and yet I don't feel like enough people really know about him. Loved your comments and again loved that you reacted to Sebastian. You made my evening, thanks.
Never heard of this guy before...
Fucking hell I need more!
He's such a subtle player. Lot's of nuance. Great reaction man!
You really should react to more of his stuff!
Technical death metal
Ten Sepiroth and Perpetual Infinity are some sick ass play throughs!
Ten Sepiroth!!!

He should do deeper reviews too. He barely spoke 20 seconds after the performance ended. That's disappointing. Doesn't seem like a real jazz drummer at all. Could be an aficionado for what I know
YES, YES, YES Garrett! I saw Obscura live exactly a month ago, and also got a pic with Sebastian. The entire band was so nice and incredible musicians.
You lucky guy! they have such a unique, funky sound, I'd love to see them when this whole mess ends.
@@bludgerabled you have to man! We don't get that much shows here in Eastern Europe, but this was a phenomenal experience. Such an amazing night.
So jealous. I missed them due to being sick a two years ago when they were touring with Inferi and Beyond Creation. Been waiting to see them for years. Though on the bright side, I did get to shake Rafael's hand when he was at a Fallujah/Equipoise show.
Been a fan for years but finally saw them with Archspire in Toronto for the first time in a very small club, it was incredible.
Great video. One of the better ones in a while lots of nice technical discussion. Love it
I have been waiting months and months for this. Your reaction did not disappoint!
This whole band is just full of pure professionals who have mastered the craft. So. Good.
Me too! Love Sebastian and fkin love Obscura 🤘🤘
1K thumbs up, 0 down.
I have never seen such like ratios! Awesome and well deserved sir! Lover your reactions and insights!
This dude's a surgeon behind the kit. Always so fun to watch, so effortlessly tasteful
I suggested Sebastian when you first started your channel! Excited for this one : )
When he did the tom roll, the noise you made sounded like the street fighter KO. Couldnt have been more perfect.
came for Lanser the drum. stayed for Klausenitzer bass.
i love how in this vid you keep it simple and just enjoy the song and Sebastian's performance. Your diligence is humbling to say the least.
OMG DUDE IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO FOR SO LONG I think I even suggested this particular one in a comment section not long ago!
Love these videos, makes watching these drum play throughs that much more entertaining
best drummer reactions channel. Pure passion.
Always loved this song
DILUVIUM MAN DILUVIUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMM
PD: nice react 5:55 xdd
Thanks so much for this reaction! Love your series very much, this one not being an exception! Sebastian is indeed an amazing drummer. Been following him now for 10+ years and seen him a few times live! Highly recommendable!
Damn, what a great drummer and a great piece of music. Thanks for sharing
I've been playing (self taught) for like 17 years. And I feel like no one has ever broken things down and explained them to me like you. Thanks dude. Keep your head up
"Kick his ass, Sebas!!!"
Mr. Lanser knows no other mode of operation. Garrett, I dig your reaction analyses very much. It just plain makes me feel good seeing a trad'l jazz drummer enthusiastically pointing& geeking out on the same things I geek out on as a death metal drummer watching the heavyweights of our genre. One positive aspect of internet world is that it makes possible a universal community, where Seb Lanser et al aren't just obscure(_obscura_?😉) provincial talent known only to a certain sound, scene or region, but can take their rightful places as giants in the world of drumming, eligible for being the topic of conversations between drum enthusiasts of all stripes, like one is generally able to discuss your Copelands, Bozzios, or Gadds.
Would love to see you check out Jay Postones from Tesseract!! Really amazing feel and a great player.
That would be a great way to describe Sebastian's drumming actually, TASTY as fuck xD
As a former drummer, I love watching drummers 1,000 times better than me. 👍👍👍🤘🎵🎶
enjoyed that far more than the typical blast-metal fare. Highly creative and great chops.
I wish i could give this 5 thumbs up!! The drum/cymbals = awesome ! The song/ playing = fn ridiculous! And the "fadeaway" reaction excellent!!! This is goin right to the saved list fo sho
Hell yea! How exciting to discover a new band!!!! \m/
That was a really good one dude! Lots of comments on the timing and explaining too love it
I watch your videos for some time now(they were massively recommended to me by YT algorithm) and I finally grew up to subscribing to you today, when I noticed that I discover more new metal music by watching a jazz drummer reactions to it than actually searching for it myself :D
Keep up the good job, cheers from Poland! :)
Lanser is absolutely a different kind of monster. At first you notice how he plays really sharp simple things and then he just throws out something totally mind bending technical stuff out of the blue.
Definitety check out Obscura - Diluvium
It's also worth checking out Obscura's namesake, the band Gorguts (they did an album called Obscura)
His sound is amazing
literally been waiting since I found your channel for you to react to Sebastian Lanser 😂 so glad to see it
the greatest satisfaction is to see your reactions
I know this is a drum channel primarily, but would like to remark that there's some real tasty bass playing in this song that needs some love, almost thought it was Erlend Caspersen.
Lanser is probably the best metal drummer nowdays... it has all the speed but with groove, spice and class...
Excellent video Garret! I love your reactions! Sebastian is truly amazing!
Please react to Alex Rudinger: Infinite Regression. One of the most insane drum videos I've seen in a while
I learn something about technique from your reactions almost every time. Thanks.
That was impressive! Really impressive drumming especially the double bass drum, the way he switches from 16th to triplets to 8th notes, it is insane!
I miss you breaking it down more at the end of the video and explaining what the guy was doing or how you felt about it.
I really recommend you to check: Florent Marcadet - Treasure This Pain he is really a great drummer from a very underrated band in Metal called Hacride.
Dat fretless bass SLAPS
His drum solo at the Tama 40th anniversary is one of my favorites of all time. It's on Part 3. Fuckin' amazing.
That's the kind of reactions I like to see ! Keep on going Garrett !
Damn, you could fit a cruise liner in the space between this guy's notes.
Palavalve Thats good because Florida has plenty to spare lol
Seriously one of the best live bands out, I saw them with my best mate at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne and it was one of the sickest things I've ever seen. This band rips harder than a Gatorade bottle, bluetack and Al foil on a Friday afternoon at approx. 4:15pm
Great channel🤘
I absolutely ADORE this album, but I didn't know he was this good!
Pretty sure i recommended this a time or two haha glad you finally watched this monster of a drummer!
Perfect reaction! Just what your audience is looking for. Short accurate input with gnarly "Oh!" faces hahaha. Thanks homie, keep em coming!
Please do Gorguts, "Le toit du monde"
This band, Obscura, was actually named after one of their albums. And, I would argue, it's even a technical level above this.
Lanser, the bassist and 2nd guitarist all just left Obscura and have formed a new band together. OBSIDIOUS is the name if I'm not mistaken.
Its about #$#@ time. This guy is sick! Please do The Contortionist Language I and II, or anything from Joey Bacca
On drum technique academy from Marthyn Jovanovic.Sebastian said he uses American grip but with finger control technique.
all about that fretless bass. check out Martyr!
As a few other people mentioned already, you should definitely check out Sebastian Lanser's drumming in Panzerballet!
They play Wellness-Death-Jazz (as they say) and I'm sure you'd love it!
I've watched this video like 5 times... So damn solid
Here you see the difference between “I’m fast” and “I’m insanely talented”. What a groove.
We are right in the middle of a major evolution of musicians.
Señor he aqui el baterista actual mas versatil del mundo!!!! Es increible lo que toca Sebastian. Excelente!!!!
that was fucking flavorful! Love Obscura!
Hey Garrett, as a metal guitarist, I "know" tech-death drummer's are bad ass, but I really don't know "why." Hearing your breakdowns, and reactions, are really informative and entertaining brother, thank you!
Fun fact: I was making the same facial expressions when that part (1:42) came in! :D
Nice man, i knew you'd like him. I think your mind will be blown even more by his work in Panzerballett, a german Jazz-Metal-Band. Take Five live at Theatron is fucking killer
Hey garrett i'm garrett. i like how much good music you find thru doin this, all the music i live for!
Sebastian is the son in law of a colleague of mine :D Hoping to meet him sometime.
Dude is legit.
matt greiner of abr just recently played in a video for zildjian. not a big fan of abr but this was super jazzy and i loved it. hoping to see a reaction from you
Your reaction to that disgusting fill at the end is hilarious!
Lovin' that fretless bass!
Awesome
The reactions are hilarious my man
Awesome drummer!! Dave Lombardo thanks!
Yo Garrett. I've been watching your channel since you first heard Dream Theater, and there's something I've thought for many moons: maybe react to Tony Royster Jr. I super dig all the metal and prog stuff, but Tony's one of those dudes that just blew my mind when I first heard him. You can find a bunch of his solos which are rad, though I know you usually do full songs. Anyway, whatever you may chose, perhaps something more recent, he's only gotten better with time! Thanks for reading, and keep rockin' ^_^
That vid is a classic. No way he doesn’t know it. Would love to see it nonetheless.
@@anoptforout Yeah, seems like a drummer he'd know, but I agree it'd be cool to see him watch and react :)
Great band
02:54 doubel hits both side floor toms- I love it.
Bienvenue to Obscura, now you are inside the Obscura and can never escape ( their music :)
Has anyone suggested Language Part I and II by the Contortionist for this? The drummer is a jazz guy for sure and I think you'd get a kick out of the music! Love the channel!
Dude, i love your reactions! Youre awesome
Holy fuck. That last fill was super tight.
being a jazz man, you should watch Sebastain lanser, with panzer ballet doing take 5, blow you jazz & metal mind at the same time !
Finally!
Obscura, How not to love it ?
I have noticed some days ago, that the thing abount the obscura is not about the great musicians and what they play. They have something about how sophisticated they are, look at that clean guitar, the fat fretless bass, and that so well tuned drum set. Moreover, look at the sound production, mixing and stuff, how well made they are.
These guys rule the entire death/prog scene nowdays by far imo.
